Was really hoping for at least 1 paper mario series song out of the 50. Like Glitzville, Tubba Blubba battle music, Champion of Destruction, Crystal Stars, Ice King battle music, etc. Maybe you could do a guess the Paper Mario songs medley at some point.
It's interesting how, if you pay attention, you can pick up on common elements so that even if you aren't familiar with a particular song, you can still guess which franchise it's from with a surprising degree of accuracy based on the style.
Or how Rare's games (specifically in the case of DK64, Banjo-Kazooie, and Conker's Bad Fur Day) all share similar styles in music. So when the one from Banjo-Kazooie came on (a game which I never played), I felt it sounded similar to the DK64 soundtrack, but knew it wasn't from that, so I was correctly able to deduce that it was from Banjo.
Ok, so for Number 7, I was actually playing BOTW with this on in the background... yeah... you can probably see why I'm now calming down from a panic attack.
Three and even maybe four KH games were Nintendo exclusives for the longest time after all. Those weren't really battle themes, but that's nitpicking from me.
Well, the entire main-series of Kingdom Hearts was just announced for Switch! Though I do believe that happened a couple days after this video was released...

I’ve been playing BOTW for three years and the guardian theme has become the theme of free loot for me by now. Back in the early days hearing that theme sent primal fear down my spine, especially if I couldn’t find the damn thing.
Spoiler warning for this post. You have been warned. This list had loads of Zelda (especially Breath of the Wild, though there were others from the franchise) and Mario Galaxy (along with some other Mario series, but it was more Galaxy), with surprisingly few Pokemon songs, very little Kirby, very little Donkey Kong, only one song from Metroid, no Star Fox, no Fire Emblem, no F-Zero, and no Animal Crossing. Meanwhile, it included the overworld map theme (not even main theme as it's titled in the video) from Final Fantasy, along with Dearly Beloved. Neither of which I'd call Nintendo music. Same goes for Banjo Kazooie; while the game was originally on the N64, it's a Rare game that is now owned by Microsoft and I'd probably not consider it a Nintendo song. The only other song on here that is debatable if it's from a Nintendo game or not: Vampire Killer. Yes, it's from CastleVania 1, which was indeed on NES, and it's been remastered on a lot of other CastleVania games, but the CastleVania franchise as a whole feels more like its own separate thing to me at this point. The first few CastleVanias, and even the entire GBA and DS era, were on Nintendo console, but I don't know if they really count as "Nintendo" series since they're made by Konami and some of the most popular and famous ones were on other consoles. Just my thoughts on it; I think the list would have been much better with a more diverse pool of franchises, maybe limiting it to six or seven songs from a given franchise at most and no more than two from any individual property (for example - no more than two out of Mystery Dungeon, no more than two out of Mario Kart, no more than two out of Majora's Mask, no more than two out of Breath of the Wild, no more than two out of Galaxy, etc). I also think future ones should leave out games that were only on a Nintendo console and aren't an IP owned by Nintendo or one of their subsidiaries (eg: CastleVania, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Banjo Kazooie; Xenoblade is owned by a subsidiary of Nintendo, so it totally counts.). Also for future entries, I felt a few of the songs were so short you barely had time to process which song it would even be, or it was like 3-4 seconds of introduction before reaching the actual melody I'd recognize. I enjoyed trying to guess each one, but some of them I knew but it hadn't gotten to the part I actually would've recognized. Maybe extending the songs by roughly 2-3 seconds if they're not immediately recognizable would be a good idea as well. I loved the video, despite the long post. I mostly just want to see future ones that are a bit more diverse while also being more accurate about what does and does not "count" as a Nintendo song. Perhaps a second series for songs from famous non-Nintendo games is in order as well to include things like Final Fantasy, Halo, Kingdom Hearts, Devil May Cry, etc.?
Hey there! Thanks a lot for the detailed feedback! Indeed the list was a bit biased, I personally really enjoy Zelda and Mario music, so I included more of those. I personally have never played Star Fox, Fire Emblem, F-Zero or Animal Crossing. As for the couple songs that were not Nintendo franchises: my mistake! I should have done better research. How long would the ideal time per song be in your opinion? 10 seconds, 15 seconds, 20 seconds? Indeed some of them I made short on purpose because they are very recognisable (eg Peach's Castle in SM64). I'm glad you still enjoyed it though! Thanks again for the feedback. @@PianoMan333 I'd say maybe 3-5 seconds minimum per song (Peach's Castle may be recognizable quickly, but it can take a second or two to process and name it. By the time my brain had registered the full name of the song, it was already on-screen). For others that aren't as immediately recognizable, I'd say 8-10 is a good sweet spot, or 15 if it takes roughly that long to get to the melody people would immediately know. Of course, you could also just choose the most famous parts of the melodies since you're only doing shorter snippits of each song. I do also highly recommend splitting this into two series - Nintendo songs and non-Nintendo game songs. There are loads of games with fantastic songs that aren't Nintendo-owned. Ori and the Blind Forest, CastleVania (and its spiritual successor, Bloodstained), Dark Souls, Hollow Knight, Halo, Elder Scrolls series, Banjo Kazooie, and Square Enix properties all immediately come to the forefront of my mind, and there are plenty of other ones. I'd be happy to discuss this further on Discord, but I can't join until later on tonight at the earliest. I nearly cried when I heard number 26. I lost my copy of explorers of Sky when I was small and it was after I saw the ending. I need to get the virtual console on the Wii U so I can play it again and not lose it again because that literally felt like my character just left my partner pokemon forever.
I got a little less than half. But after 43 when the notes were scrolling down, I could feel my eyes dilate, then the music hit and I was very aware of my whole face brightening. Well done.
Always pleasantly surprised whenever I hear somebody bring up Pkmn Colosseum or XD. Fantastic soundtrack for those. I'm a bit sad that some game series like Metroid, F-zero and Star Fox are just as left out and abandoned as by Nintendo lol..
You want to make the fans of an obscure Nintendo series happy and throw off the ones that think of Zelda or Mario? Use No More Heroes in the next one along with more from the Metroid series.
I would love to see a second part of this! I really liked trying to guess the themes. Most of the time, I wasn't able to guess the exact name of the theme but I always knew which franchise it was from
Recognized maybe 35-40 of the themes, could name some 25-30 of them. I am especially proud on Rainbow Road, as I identified it as a Mario Kart track on the first chord, and knew the exact track on the second chord. I recognized and named all SMG tracks. I failed to name the SMG2 track, but I knew it was from the Galaxy games. I knew Good Egg Galaxy from the opening fanfare alone. I recognized most Zelda themes, but only named the BoTW ones consistently (

Decent spread but the constant zelda and mario tracks made it a bit too easy. Little disappointed there was only like... One from a few games. Including metroid which is famous for its ambience. No F Zero or starfox or earthbound. I'm certain tossing in a bit more variety with your next list will make it more challenging :)
One of them that is labeled as Zelda is actually from Mario 3, but that's a mistake that basically everyone makes, so I really don't blame them. (Mario 3-World 3)

Havent seen professor layton on any other console other than nintendo.. Castlevania was originally released on nintendo. As was final fantasy's 1 through 6. Banjo Kazooie was released on N64... 10 years before it got a release on xbox 360

I’ve been playing BOTW for three years and the guardian theme has become the theme of free loot for me by now. Back in the early days hearing that theme sent primal fear down my spine, especially if I couldn’t find the damn thing.

This list had loads of Zelda (especially Breath of the Wild, though there were others from the franchise) and Mario Galaxy (along with some other Mario series, but it was more Galaxy), with surprisingly few Pokemon songs, very little Kirby, very little Donkey Kong, only one song from Metroid, no Star Fox, no Fire Emblem, no F-Zero, and no Animal Crossing.
Meanwhile, it included the overworld map theme (not even main theme as it's titled in the video) from Final Fantasy, along with Dearly Beloved. Neither of which I'd call Nintendo music. Same goes for Banjo Kazooie; while the game was originally on the N64, it's a Rare game that is now owned by Microsoft and I'd probably not consider it a Nintendo song. The only other song on here that is debatable if it's from a Nintendo game or not: Vampire Killer.
Yes, it's from CastleVania 1, which was indeed on NES, and it's been remastered on a lot of other CastleVania games, but the CastleVania franchise as a whole feels more like its own separate thing to me at this point. The first few CastleVanias, and even the entire GBA and DS era, were on Nintendo console, but I don't know if they really count as "Nintendo" series since they're made by Konami and some of the most popular and famous ones were on other consoles.
Just my thoughts on it; I think the list would have been much better with a more diverse pool of franchises, maybe limiting it to six or seven songs from a given franchise at most and no more than two from any individual property (for example - no more than two out of Mystery Dungeon, no more than two out of Mario Kart, no more than two out of Majora's Mask, no more than two out of Breath of the Wild, no more than two out of Galaxy, etc). I also think future ones should leave out games that were only on a Nintendo console and aren't an IP owned by Nintendo or one of their subsidiaries (eg: CastleVania, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Banjo Kazooie; Xenoblade is owned by a subsidiary of Nintendo, so it totally counts.).
Also for future entries, I felt a few of the songs were so short you barely had time to process which song it would even be, or it was like 3-4 seconds of introduction before reaching the actual melody I'd recognize. I enjoyed trying to guess each one, but some of them I knew but it hadn't gotten to the part I actually would've recognized. Maybe extending the songs by roughly 2-3 seconds if they're not immediately recognizable would be a good idea as well.
I loved the video, despite the long post. I mostly just want to see future ones that are a bit more diverse while also being more accurate about what does and does not "count" as a Nintendo song. Perhaps a second series for songs from famous non-Nintendo games is in order as well to include things like Final Fantasy, Halo, Kingdom Hearts, Devil May Cry, etc.?
Hey there! Thanks a lot for the detailed feedback! Indeed the list was a bit biased, I personally really enjoy Zelda and Mario music, so I included more of those. I personally have never played Star Fox, Fire Emblem, F-Zero or Animal Crossing. As for the couple songs that were not Nintendo franchises: my mistake! I should have done better research. How long would the ideal time per song be in your opinion? 10 seconds, 15 seconds, 20 seconds? Indeed some of them I made short on purpose because they are very recognisable (eg Peach's Castle in SM64). I'm glad you still enjoyed it though! Thanks again for the feedback. @@PianoMan333 I'd say maybe 3-5 seconds minimum per song (Peach's Castle may be recognizable quickly, but it can take a second or two to process and name it. By the time my brain had registered the full name of the song, it was already on-screen). For others that aren't as immediately recognizable, I'd say 8-10 is a good sweet spot, or 15 if it takes roughly that long to get to the melody people would immediately know.
Of course, you could also just choose the most famous parts of the melodies since you're only doing shorter snippits of each song. I do also highly recommend splitting this into two series - Nintendo songs and non-Nintendo game songs. There are loads of games with fantastic songs that aren't Nintendo-owned. Ori and the Blind Forest, CastleVania (and its spiritual successor, Bloodstained), Dark Souls, Hollow Knight, Halo, Elder Scrolls series, Banjo Kazooie, and Square Enix properties all immediately come to the forefront of my mind, and there are plenty of other ones.

I nearly cried when I heard number 26. I lost my copy of explorers of Sky when I was small and it was after I saw the ending. I need to get the virtual console on the Wii U so I can play it again and not lose it again because that literally felt like my character just left my partner pokemon forever.

I really liked trying to guess the themes. Most of the time, I wasn't able to guess the exact name of the theme but I always knew which franchise it was from

Decent spread but the constant zelda and mario tracks made it a bit too easy. Little disappointed there was only like... One from a few games. Including metroid which is famous for its ambience. No F Zero or starfox or earthbound. I'm certain tossing in a bit more variety with your next list will make it more challenging :)
One of them that is labeled as Zelda is actually from Mario 3, but that's a mistake that basically everyone makes, so I really don't blame them. (Mario 3-World 3)
