    One thing I will mention when buying anything that comes from overseas that is rc related is check the screws. For example, I bought a redcat and straight out of the box the spur gear and servo were not screwed in correctly. Just do a once over of the entire rig before the first run.

    • @CCxRC

      That is good advice

    Anybody who buys an RC car (no matter how highly rated) and doesn't expect it to break are either very naive, or just new to the hobby. Keep doing what you do, the way you do it man, I love your reviews!

    I Bought the Vkar bison v2 as well and I have had a lot of RC's from all the dji phantom series to boats and a few different traxxas RC's and this Bison is one of my favourite. People that seem to talk trash about this truggy must have either got a lemon for their order or literally been going super extreme with it because I have abused the $hit out of this car and I have had no issues so fare. killer Rc for the price hands down and one of the funnest in my opinion.

    • @CCxRC
      @CCxRC  7 лет назад +1

      Glad to hear that you share my opinion Warren. I felt really bad when I was hearing people having issues. I've had no problems with this that I haven't with other cars...and this one is going bigger and faster than my others.

    well done mate, my Bison arrives in a few days, I've found a European supplier for parts and they have the suspension bushings, they're on Ebay. I've been watching all your Bison related Vids as well as RC Tanks & Trucks in Australia and i thibk you've both been very fair about this RC. personally, im looking for an RC i can trash whilst building my various shelf queens so thanks for your help in finding a suitable candidate, keep up the great Vids!

      Glad you found a supplier. That's great. I looked at some European suppliers, but shipping was going to get me. Ended up using AlieExpress for free...super slow...shipping for the parts I couldn't get here.

    nice video, I'm receiving my bison by the end of the week. definitely interested to see if you manage to find a steel spur gear that fits as I'm hoping to try the bison on 4s. also with the bushings do you think a steel/ alloy one would work? as I'm thinking of hitting up a local workshop with a cnc Mill to make a few for me .. maybe the spur gears as well if there are no readily available ones. keep up the good work

    • @CCxRC
      @CCxRC  7 лет назад

      I was thinking about a steel bushing. The only thing is...the arm becomes the next weak link and may break. The bushing is super cheap and easy to change vs. a cracked or broken a-arm

    • @adsy87ad
      @adsy87ad 7 лет назад

      CCxRC that actually quite a good point.. maybe I'll just look at the bushings as a consumable item that saves the a arms from breaking haha I'll just have to buy several when I find them in stock somewhere

    • @CCxRC
      @CCxRC  7 лет назад +1

      I ordered 3 bags of them. That should give me 12 to work with. It's only a few screws to replace them which makes it pretty easy to do on the fly when out running at the track.

    • @adsy87ad
      @adsy87ad 7 лет назад +1

      CCxRC I managed to find a local shop that stocks the helion truggy parts so grabbed two bags of the bushes.. went out today to a bigger bmx track and the bushes didn't break.. I did manage to destroy the wheelie bar and the main chassis though.. ( driver error) the video of the offending crash is on my channel if you want to check it out.. even with the damages it's still a great rc that will be repaired asap!

    • @CCxRC

    hey man, so i have the Helion Select 10sc the short course version. The truck shares a ton of parts with the VKAR Bison. Identical chasis, drive train, shock mounts and such. I have a video im about to upload addressing my issues with the truck after owning it for a year. I had to smile when you said you replaced the front bushing on the hinge pin. Those plague me. lol You may want to look into the oil in your center dif. It may be too thick causing you to strip those spur gears. I just went through and changed all the oil in all three difs. Makes a huge difference.

    • @dirtduct
      @dirtduct 7 лет назад

      I also have some of those bushing for the hinge pins if you want them. I'll be happy to get them to you. I keep a ready supply of the things that go wrong with this car.

    • @CCxRC
      @CCxRC  7 лет назад

      Thanks for the info Michael! I just looked at the Helion Select 10SC today at Hobbytown. Good looking SC truck. I picked up some of the bushings from there as well. I have 5 now and 3 packs on order from Alieexpress...so I'm good. But thanks for the offer! :) Also picked up an extra spur gear and tail fin mount to be safe. I will say, the shocks and shock towers look smaller, but I'm guessing the bolt and spacers are the same. Should've got more of those too. Luckily most of these are simple and inexpensive fixes to keep it going. I'll take a look at the diff oil next. What weight did you use?

    • @dirtduct

      I put 20,000 in the front and rear and 10,000 in the center.

    • @CCxRC
      @CCxRC  7 лет назад +2

      It is chinsy, but it's $3 for 4 of them and a much nicer break point than an a-arm. lol. The way I hit...I expected a broken arm. This is way cheaper and easier to fix. Got 3 bags of them on the way. :)

    Hey Tony, love your channel. I've had the Bison for about 3 or 4 months now and the only problem so far is the front arm holder plates bending easily. If you bash the front of car at the right angle and force. I've replaced both of these and also the metal parts that go around the front hub carrier that hold the arm holder plates in place. No problems since then, but any advice or suggestions on how to prevent that from happening again? Thanks, Lio!

    • @CCxRC
      @CCxRC  7 лет назад +1

      Don't crash? :) I usually bend mine back into place if it gets bent on a hard crash. This is where I say that metal upgrades aren't always better. Plastic flexes and returns to its original shape (or breaks), but metal bends and stays bent.

    I tried changing the spur gear on my bison just like you showed in your video, but I ran into some issues. Firs, I could not set the correct gear and motor mesh to match up. Only two of the wheels on the bison now spin. The second issue, As soon as I apply throttle, I can smell a burning odor. I'm not entirely sure what it is. But I think it could be the new spur gear being stipped by the pinion gear on the motor? When I stop applying throttle, the smell goes away. The third issue is that I cannot figure out what screw goes where. Just like you mentioned in your video, I tried to put the screws in the same position as when I removed them from the car, but I managed to, no pun intended, screw that up. Any thoughts as to the burning smell and spur to pinion gear matching up? Any help will be greatly appreciated. I should mention that I am a newbie at this whole hobby. Plus, I've never been mechanically inclined. if there is a way to screw up, I can find it.

    How important is adjusting the pinion-spur mesh once you have the axle in place? Also, do you have to apply any grease to it? Thanks

    You've convinced me. I ordered 2 little vortex by WL toys & was impressed by their speed & so by mid-week of the following week of having received them I wanted something bigger. My buddy who apparently has like a $2000 car told me not to buy these cheap Chinese knock offs. Because sourcing parts & shipping & such. However with this Bison you have convinced me that it would make a great Learner car. It will be my very 1st big rc & I (since I'm-experienced ) will not be driving this thing to a skate park & immediately flipping it or hitting hi jumps. Hopefully by the time I get it & learn it everything will be squared away with the parts issues. Thanks for the boost of interest & helping with ur research. I'm going to order this thing today after work. & in a week myself & 3 year old son will be enjoying a day on a hardball field just driving away having fun. Thanks again.

      Glad to hear it Michael! Parts availability is definitely the main selling factor for me. I let one of the guys at the local hobby shop use it in a competition and everyone was floored by it. Things will break. It happens, but you can get most parts easily in the US for it. I talked to Gearbest last week because of all the interest and asked if I could get a discount code to use on my channel. If you use: CCxRC during check out, you can save 10% on it.
      If you use this link to buy, it helps out my channel as I am an affilliate with them now: bit.ly/VKAR_BISON
      Also, I just got a new WLTOYS Shortcourse truck to try out. It's a little bigger than the Vortex. Keep your eyes open for that review.
      Thanks Michael and have fun RCing.

      +Michael S. Hard to say. It varies. Anywhere from 10-20 days. Sometimes a bit longer. Sometimes I just pay the DHL express shipping rate...depending how much it is. That seems to get it here much faster.

      Here's a tip I just learned from one of my experiences. After you order, go back and login. Then go to your orders. On the right, there is a "Dispatch Faster" button. For some reason, they typically wait 2-3 or more days to ship your order. Clicking this is supposed to prioritize your order. Not sure why they do this, other than the old way with online ordering had a built in processing time (like ebay sellers use).

    • @CCxRC
      @CCxRC  7 лет назад +2

      I didn't, but I do know that some people have said the diffs need an a change. My shocks felt sweet out of the box so I didn't check. Honestly, to get this out and make videos, I didn't strip it down. I'm going for the out of box experience people can expect. Then I'll dial it in.

    Must admit am having issues with mine also. Maiden run on 2S and a defective Servo and 3 seized bearings. Quick and easy fix. However I can't work out my cogging issue on startup though.
    But I love the versatility of 2-4S and if you do a proper post run check and maintain it as you should all rigs it'll do the job! I have put a review of sorts in a Bison thread on the rcgroups forum if you're interested. 😎

    Could you please show how it actually comes apart. I can not pull it away from the body/ drive shaft as the other half of the spur gear is in the way of me pulling it away. I got 4 minutes use from this waste of money before I heard grinding the second time I brought it out. the first time was fine as I ran the battery down no problem, no jumps or anything, just driving. I just wanted to know how to take it apart so when the spur gear is available again online I can buy a few and replace it

I walked into my hobbytown today and bought a bag of the arm bushings, another spur gear, and rear fin support (just in case). Got it all for $15. Going to try the rear fin on the JLB 21101 to see if it will fit the one I broke. Here's hoping

      +CCxRC I think the Helion is probably worth the extra for the motor, esc, receiver and transmitter it comes with, but if you are on a budget...a $330 brushless truggy powerhouse seems like a deal. And the few problems I have had seem like they would be the same for the Helion since those parts are similar.

    Nice Video, by experience. Provided the Spur gear is made of good quality nylon plastic and always checked for a proper mesh, It will outlive a metal spur gear. A metal spur gear seem logically a more durable alternative but a metal spur gear will alway wear out your pinion gear a lot faster. And pinion gear is more expensive than a plastic spur gear.

    • @CCxRC
      @CCxRC  6 лет назад

      Hard to say. I’d check the controller/receiver first. If it won’t turn left, it may be that an impact messed up the servo.

  • @colekoon9213
    @colekoon9213 6 лет назад

    Sorry for all the questions man . I️ hope you have time to answer another one ! what battery size and type do you recommend running in the bison? Can you put to large of a 3s one in it that could cause damage? If so where would be a good stopping point ?
    Thanks a lot for your time

    • @CCxRC
      @CCxRC  6 лет назад

      Hey Cole, it can handle 3S. The larger it is in Mah rating is really just capacity. That just means it will last longer. No 3S should be too much power for it. I think that 3S 5000mah 50C batteries work awesome in it.

    • @colekoon9213

    • @CCxRC
      @CCxRC  6 лет назад

      Did you crash it into anything with one of the tires? it may be that the servo gears got messed up. Shouldn't be your on off order. My kids just messed up my Zombie servo crashing into the fence too many times. Does it drive straigth when the steering setting on the remote are near the 0 point (mid-point). If the steering arm was not centered when attached...that could make it off

      At this price...the similar Helion Select Four 10TR at Hobbytown is a good price. The DHK Zombie is one of my favorite at this price point. Can' flip like the Bison and isn't as fast...but it's awesome.

    You can put a steel spur in here. This truck is the same as the T2M PIRATE FURIOUS and they made a steel spur 52T, it will probably fit since it is the same chassis

      CCxRC
      Don't make that mistake my man.
      The plastic spur is there for a reason, because if there's some problem in the gear mesh or anything similar, the damage will be limited to the plastic spur ONLY.
      A steel spur will just transfer motion anyhow and mess with your diffs.

    I just ordered the bison paid 313 for it.. I'm just getting it for cruising around the yard and stuff with kids and wifey.. It was between bison and jlb cheetah.. Seems like Alot of opinions here said cheetah the way to go.. What do you think? Cheetah or Bison? Seems like the bison breaks down in short period of time... Dang...

    • @CCxRC
      @CCxRC  7 лет назад +1

      I have more fun with tehI have more fun with the Bison, but there are parts that will break on it if you hit a tree or curb at a decent speed. What I like is that I can easily get parts for it from the Helion version. My Cheetah is only 2WD right now and I've got to wait for parts. With teh Bison, I just go to Hobbytown or order them Helion parts from Amazon. So it really comes down to preference. The cheetah is stronger...but when something goes wrong...there is a wait period for parts.

    • @CCxRC

      I've had it for about 4 months and abused it like no other RC. I did just crack the chassis, but already replaced it. I'm also adding a chassis stiffener to prevent that from happening again. But I'm jumping it 20+ feet off huge BMX jumps. The motor and ESC are still going strong...as is the Servo. I've probably broke about $30 in parts during that time.

    Hi Tony. What diff oil viscosity would u recommend? Seems like center diff is the only one has oil in it, others have grease like. Thx.

    • @CCxRC
      @CCxRC  6 лет назад

      Yeah...a lot of RTR cars come with grease in the diffs. From what I've read...that is comparable to 1k wt. For the center...the heavier you go will send more power to the rear...this will help stop ballooning the front tires, but at some point it will also not let you corner as well. I'd go somewhere around 7k or 10k for the center.

    • @domly5548

    Well after much abuse I broke the arm bushing and sheared the arm holder in which that holds the arm bushing and the arm pin. Order the parts from the Helion four 10TR . The arm holder and bushing fit the Bison!! In doing so I went ahead and checked the diff, There was very little grease or fluid in there so I cleaned and filled it with 30k diff fluid, good to go again. Gonna check rear diff next.

    I purchased the VKAR BISON Dec. 11, 2016 from Banggood. It was delivered the Dec. 29, 2016. I charged the battery and installed it in the Bison, and that is as far as I have gotten. Nothing happened the lights did not come on or anything. Thinking that maybe I needed to turn on the controller and try to bind it with the Bison, I put in new batteries in the controller and turned it on. Well nothing happened, I could not even get the controller to come on. Here is my question - does the Bison have a power switch to turn it off and on? If yes then that is my problem with the Bison, because there is no, I repeat no power switch (on/off switch) what so ever on my Bison. The controller is another problem. It does not look like the controller in the manual and all of the controllers I see on RUclips are the same and mine does not look like them. I have tried and tried to get some support from Banggood without any success. From watching your videos, I have come to the conclusion that you can point me in the right direction. Thank you for any information you can give me.

      +Dronefliertoo Waller just getting back from being away after having a tooth pulled. 1. There should be an on/off switch. 2. The receiver may be different. Seen several different transmitters which probably have different receivers. 3. Join the Facebook VKAR Bison group for input from others who may have the same transmitter and receiver you have. Though it should've been bound and ready to drive on arrival.

    I really appreciate your video, my boys and I have been sad since our Bison is having issues after the 2nd run and we had no ideas what's wrong. At first it made loud noise which I think was from the spur gear, now it won't move at all but we hear the motor running. It could also be the motor gear which I will check out first per your advice. I didn't bash the truck at all though I'm also new to the hobby grade RCs. Btw, may be you can make a quick video about useful tools for RCs - those basic L shape allen wrenches are not the easiest to work with after some time. Again, huge thank you for your video and I'll be checking out your other videos as well.

    • @CCxRC
      @CCxRC  7 лет назад +1

      Sorry to hear about the problems with your Bison. These things are becoming notorious for shipping with a bad gear mesh that causes the plastic spur gear to get destroyed. I can do a video about the tools I use, but there are only a few specialty tools I use. RC Network has a ton of Tool Tuesday videos showcasing RC tools. I'll do a quick all-in-one video that shows the main tools I use on a regular basis. Good idea.
      Also, I ordered a new center differential that can old a steel spur gear. Still waiting on it to arrive (it's been about 2-3 weeks already) from Aliexpress. I'll post a video about it if it works out.

      I finally realized what the problem was with my car and you pretty much nailed it. Once again, thank you for this video!

  • @dexterdcdexter
    @dexterdcdexter 7 лет назад

    Here is probably the next thing that you will need for the car. I have already seen a video of another owner of this car break his servo after a couple of runs. My Bison has broken on almost every run. First was the lost pin, then the Arm hinge bushing now it is the Servo. Total run time on this car is about 45 minutes max. I have never gone through an entire battery without the car breaking and I have not jumped the car once. It has flipped a couple of times on grass but that is it. My ACME 1/16 has seen extensive abuse that I could not imagine the VKAR taking and it was $79.00 off of Bangood.com. Excellent Basher. I also have the equivalent to the ACME which is the Hobbyking Bad Basher but that has been Okay. I got way more runs out of that car before I had a few issues with it, unlike the VKAR. Even my $63.00 WLToys A959b has been a way more durable and fun car. Of course they are a different scale and class but still. I guess that you really flip a coin when you purchase an RC. Sometimes you get a good one from the factory and sometimes they are nothing but problems from the factory. Quality assurance might be the downfall for VKAR on this one. I think that the hinge pin design needs to be addressed and they need to ship this car with a better Servo and Spur gear. The VKAR has been nothing but problems since day one for me especially since Gearbest sent me the car without a battery. Well, here is the Servo that I got off of Amazon. Once again, thank you for your videos. You are doing an awesome job. Have fun RC-ing!!!!
    www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DQQNV1A/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
    P.S.
    I have also heard that if your local Hobby Town carries the Helion Four 10TR or the 10SC, they might have parts.

      @CCxRC  7 лет назад

      Bummer Dexter. Sounds like you have had a tough go with it for sure. I'll tell you what...those little WLTOYS cars are amazing and so much fun to mess around with. I have a feeling that the slipper clutch isn't set to be forgiving on the spur gear from factory....but we get impressive wheelies that way. :) I'm planning to loosen mine up a bit until I can get a better spur gear.
      How do you like the Savox servo in this car? Does it feel underpowered for the big wheels on this?

    I have replaced four of the bushings...my fault due to crashes. Two broke and the others popped out. I got a bag of four from Hobby Town (Helion bushings...worked perfect). They had them in stock.

      Oh...and thanks for all the videos and all the help. I don't feel led astray at all because I love this thing! I have not had to replace the spur gear yet, but when I do, I sure would like to have a metal one! Happy New Year!

      Tinstar2 thanks for the tip! I'll have to check my local shop. Online they are backordered everywhere in the US. It's a bit of a weird design. Traxxas did something similar with the xmaxx with plastic pieces holding in pins and I've had to replace those as well. Makes it easy to work on, but has some drawbacks as well. Probably saves the a-arm from breaking 😆

    • @CCxRC
      @CCxRC  7 лет назад

      Tinstar2 glad to hear you are having fun with it! Aliexpress does have a steel spur gear for it, but it doesn't look the same. I have one on order to test the fit before I recommend it. May just require a bit more disassembly of the center diff to get it on. Definitely doesn't twist over like this one does. I've seen full center diff replacements with the steel spur and the mount for it is different. Hopefully this mount will still line up.

      Tinstar2 I'm taking the old one up to a hobby shop to look at other 32p 52t spurs and see if any look like they'll fit.

    • @CCxRC
      @CCxRC  7 лет назад

      Hi Caleb, were you looking up Helion parts? If it is the servo rod, you should be able to get something threaded that you can adjust the length of. If you use Facebook, there is a Facebook Group for the VKAR Bison where you can post photos and ask questions. Lots of people finding parts and fixes there.

    How similar is this to the Helion Four 10TR? what is different about it?

    • @CCxRC
      @CCxRC  7 лет назад

      The roller is identical. The Helion has nicer electronics (motor, ESC, receiver, transmitter and servo), but this one does pretty well with what it has. Not sure who builds the Helion RTR, but like most, it is best to check screws and gear mesh to make sure you don't have any issues on the first run.

    • @tynanroussety917
      @tynanroussety917 7 лет назад

      If i could pick up the Helion for $599 and i could pick up the Bison for $430 what would you lean towards. What im saying is - is the $170 worth the upgrade?

    • @CCxRC
      @CCxRC  7 лет назад

      That's the difference we have. It's $500 for the Helion and $330 for the Bison. That's a tough call. Depends what your budget is. If I was spending $599, I'd probably look at an ARRMA.

    • @CCxRC
      @CCxRC  7 лет назад +1

      But the Bison is really good in the low price budget. One of my favorite cars I own. Right now it is up there with my X-maxx at the top 2

    • @CCxRC

      Rc Flyer not easily. The mount is different, so it would take a lot more than just switching the spur gear.

    No slipper clutch? why it's breaking the gears if it don't have one.

    • @CCxRC
      @CCxRC  7 лет назад

      It does have a slipper clutch. You put a hex key in it and then rotate the rear wheels to tighten or loosen it.

    • @ShenRC
      @ShenRC 7 лет назад +2

      CCxRC O good... Then adjust it correctly and your gears should not get messed up...I always here guy's saying there gears break all the time ( even in cars that I owned) but they never adjust there slipper clutch and just leave it fully locked down so of curse your gears are going to fail.
      slipper clutch...that's what it's there for why not use it right?
      Don't know how you have it adjusted but I would definitely plat around with it.
      Don't take this the wrong way not being a smart ass just saying it because most guy's buy a RC and just run it out of the box and don't properly adjust the slipper unit I found.

    • @CCxRC
      @CCxRC  7 лет назад

      I will admit that I didn't adjust mine...even though I knew better.

    • @willied4688
      @willied4688 7 лет назад +1

      CCxRC when I had mine apart I didn't see any slipper clutch I think if it has the center diff there is no slipper i could be wrong but I think there's two versions one with slipper and one with center diff but like I said I could be wrong.

    • @CCxRC
      @CCxRC  7 лет назад

      I saw it in the manual, but I honestly don't remember seeing it when I pulled it out. So it might be the pro model that has it. I know there are two version of the the center diff.

    My Bison broke the third time I took it out. No crazy jumps or anything. It just stoppped turning. I have to take it apart to figure out exactly whats going on, but from first look it looks like something is stripped. Im so sad.

    • @CCxRC
      @CCxRC  7 лет назад

      endz4twizz check from the servo to the front end to make sure everything is intact. Hopefully servo is ok. Also make sure it didn't come unplugged at the receiver.

    • @endz4twizz
      @endz4twizz 7 лет назад

      Ill take it apart and keep ya posted. Im not well versed with these things, This is my first RC car. If the servo is the the little stearing control motor I think thats ok. Its what that connects to that kinda looks stripped, but I wont know tilli get a better view.

    • @endz4twizz
      @endz4twizz 7 лет назад

      So I made a video and posted it on the FB group and it looks like my servo arm is stripped or loose. Thanks for showing your viewers that group btw. Your video is the reason I bought this car. I know friends that have Traxxas E Revos and they break all the time. All these RC cars break and I expected that much from a hobby grade RC car. So now I have to figure out how to get to this screw, wish me luck....lol.

    I suggest if replacing spur gear, check diffs. I checked and serviced all 3 diffs and the rear had no fluid. Just traces of grease. The center wasn't much better. After filling all diffs with diff fluid, it's a different and better Bison. Just saying.

      hey I'm looking to get a bison but gearbest is the only spot I can find it and some people are saying they never sent their item and I don't really want to pay $300 to a website I don't know is safe

    • @CCxRC

      Ask on the FB page for the VKAR Bison. I've not had any issues other than it can take a while for some shipments. The longest I've waited is 20 days, but I've never had anything now arrive. I have heard of them not accepting payment, but I use PayPal and haven't had a problem there either. I'm guessing some Credit Cards may hesitate on the international web order thinking it is suspicious...but I don't know.

    Is it a Tekno? No, it's not but it's a good car. It has decent parts support, not Team Associated level but good. It has good plastics, it has good electrics. If I were to rate it I'd rate it a 7.5 out of 10. Maybe it should score higher when you take into account the price.

    • @CCxRC
      @CCxRC  7 лет назад

      I'd go with you on the 7.5 or 8 out of 10. It's not perfect, but considering the price...it's gets a higher score. It sure does rip and handles so well. I've never run a Tekno. :)
