About to do this for my second bike (did one last year) - I sold the other one. So, the problem with the cable ties is that they are straight, but need to be curved. Took me a while to figure how to do this, maybe others will be helped by what I did. I got a wooden spoon (about 10mm thick handle), and duct taped the pointy end on it wound around it (just once) in a spiral. Boiled up some water and added it in to a washing up bowl which already had a bit of cold water in to make sure the water wasn't actually boiling when I added the water from the kettle and dunked the tie (wrapped around the spoon) in. Left it in there for a few minutes. Let it cool down. Untape it and make sure it now has a curl in the end. Mine sprang out to have a 180 (ish) bend, after a bit of experimentation! You want one tie wound one way, and one the other. You feed the tie from the inside hole of the tab on the guard, and it should be possible to now wiggle it around to come out the other side, as the tie is curved. I had to guide it with a small screwdriver. Done. A bonkers idea by the makers not to suggest something like this.
I also had same problem with my zzr1400. Had advisory on my mot for loose radiator guard. I now own gtr1400 and as glutton for punishment have ordered another R&G guard.
@@CharlieForder have you checked to see if the rubber supports have melted? Doesn't the radiator get hot in summer? By the way I have your same bike, insane piece of machine 😉
I just installed one on my 2012 and couldn't get the zip ties where they say to. I just ended up using the screw at the bottom to mount it. The horn and junction box brackets keep the top secured.

Hi, did you ever run into problems for not using the plastic ties?
Hi, I haven't had any issues with not using the plastic ties.. It sits tightly behind the horn and of course fixed at the bottom of the radiator

I've got the same problem with my zzr1400 only done the bottom as well it's driving me mad?
I can't believe they've designed it like that!! I haven't noticed a rattling noise coming from it and it hasn't moved either.
Love your videos man, so helpful!! I don’t suppose you’ll be fitting an R&G downpipe guard soon will you?😉
Thanks for your feedback 😀😀😀 I wasn't planning on fitting a down pipe guard as i like to see them changing colour 😉
