- Taxi Driver is a nostalgic journey through the Bombay of the 50s. The story take you to the era when Bombay had its quiet, peaceful and scenic atmosphere, electric trams, and a unique taxi driver, Mangal (Dev Anand), who is referred to as Hero by his friends. Mangal drives a cab by day, then drinks at night, listens to his singer girlfriend, Sylvie (Sheila Ramani) and then goes into a drunken stupor. One day, he comes to the assistance of a damsel in distress Mala (Kalpana Kartik), being molested by two thugs. What happens when their friendship blossoms into romance with a new twist added to it?

Love it how Kalpana Kartik can portray all types of roles and especially love her looks! She's sooo gorgeous! And Dev Anand as usual no need to say anything about him! There's always a reason why we call him an evergreen star! I am born this the 2000s but I still love these old black and white movies more than anything!

As a critic I would say the end of the movie could have been better, what happened to Sylvie ? did Hero meet her ? Its hard to believe that this movie is almost 70 years old, mostly single shot taken. What a charismatic personality Dev Sahab had. No one have enough words to describe him. Kalpana Kartik did her best in all her films. Johnny walker as always entertained with his punchlines. I am 95s born but Black and white movies attracts me miraculously, specially Dev Sahab one's. Stay connected if you feel the same.

The black & white films of Dev sahab are absolute delight to watch. 'C.I.D', 'Kaala Pani', 'Kaala Bazaar', etc. Another black & white film which I loved to watch was Ashok Kumar's 'Kanoon' (a must watch for everyone).

The topmost movie of bw era. The realism depicted in it needs the mind of an art lover to appreciate. Perforce, the life of a taxi driver is frustrating and it was the greatest success of the director and Dev Anand who captured the mood. The streak of annoyance, ordinary man's joys and sorrows run throughout the movie. Not a film for gimmick lovers. The music and tunes, signature tunes were best of the century. Title music is unique....the melodious baasuri tune emanating from heart, getting erased by fast tunes signifying harshness, humdrum of daily life. The title music itself sets the mood of the film. And best of songs befitting the situations.
The film deserved an international award for depicting realism.

This was my favourite movie of the EVERGREEN HERO DEVANAND,and also my favourite Dancer SHEIILA RAMANI,THE MOST BEAUTIFUL ACTRESS OF THE OLDEN DAYS.Today the 28th SEP 2023,I got a chance to see this moviie on my RUclips channel which I saw.This move was of 1954,at that time DEVANAND was 31 years,and I was 3 years old at that time in 1954.But once again I am seeing this movie at 72 yrs just 4 days after my birthday.The songs sung by Lata Mangeshkar for SHEILA RAMANI my favourite actress of the 60s are so beautiful that I love to hear it again n again.I have seen this movie about 10 times,its becos of my Favorite HERO DEVANAND and the songs of this picture are really heart touching.
Kalpana Kartik is the best actress in the India.
This isn't just a movie, its a time capsule that has captured what Bombay (now called "Mumbai" 🙄) was like in the 1950's. Its so amazing to see spots like Cafe Royal (which still exists to this date) and Taj hotel in this film, they looked so much more pristine than they do today.😀

Good entertainer. Dev anand ,kalpana katrtik, have acted very well indeed.Johnny waker is excellent in his comic role with very natural body language and superb dialogue delivery! Sylvia Ramani is very beautiful and she has all the ingredients of a heroine! Her acting and dancing skills are superb! Her performance insulting the hero as Taxi driver out of sudden spurt of jealousy is so natural and outstanding ! Watching Mumbai ( at that time Bombay) of 60s is so pleasing and lovely experience by itself ! Kudos to Navketan team for a good production .
