Yeah Ken’s typical gameplan doesn’t fly here. You have to make use of Ken’s disjoints, like hutilt, lftilt, and roundhouse. It’s hard as hell, but jumping in on Mario will never work.

Ken is honestly just a skill check character. He may have a good advantage state bit once you figure out the matchup there's not really much he can do which is why he will never win a major and will forever remain a mid tier sadly.

Your cynical take notwithstanding, this matchup is particularly difficult for Ken due to Mario’s excellent movement, landing mixups, and Ken’s abysmal disadvantage options. Mario has many ways to evade and escape Kenn setups, but Ken has few to escape Mario’s. This is really a matchup that Ryu would probably be better in, his shaku can more effectively dictate what approach options Mario can take, and landing with Shaku out of disadvantage is a great way to prevent his juggling options
