  • I stopped collecting crystals, tarot, and all things metaphysical for nearly two years. There were two huge reasons why, and as someone who was OBSESSED, this was a real struggle for me. But this is brutally honest advice I think you really need to hear if you also collect crystals, oracle and tarot decks.

This ties into my issue with the whole "manifest it" era that's going on right now. I was raised a witch. And part of manifesting is working on it to get the thing. Not wishing or imagining it and then waiting for it to happen. You need to focus in on yourself. (Meditate and use the time to think to find out what you need to do. What steps you need to take) crystals are tools in the practice. And not a fashion item or a "gotta catch them all" kinda collectables. Witchcraft us literally about working with nature. You can attain everything you need with your own inner power and inner energy. You don't NEED anything. They're tools that help and assist, if you want to use them. It doesn't make you any less of a witch, or spiritual person if you don't have all the crystals or all the tools. I literally give away all my information for free because there is no course for being a witch. You don't need to be in a coven to be a witch. Being a witch or spiritual doesn't and shouldn't cost money.

100%! Perfectly said! I had felt the same way about manifesting and LOA, there is so much hype about and I kept hearing that if it's not "working", I don't believe hard enough or I'm doing it wrong. Eventually, I realized a lot of it is about control and sometimes we just have to loosen our grip on things and see where we are naturally led! "Gotta catch them all" -yes!! Like trust me, I wanted to do that and live in a house filled with magical items and crystals everywhere, but in the end, that's not what all of this is about. 💗

It makes me frustrated that you’re encouraging this message honestly. It really should be about everything in moderation. You could start on an antidepressant and yeah, taking more than your doctor prescribed you is bad, but so is stopping if you’re receiving positive results. For me and others, while I don’t believe 100% in crystals and tarot cards, I like the symbolism it means to me. It gives me a passion when I already lack passion because of my depression. In my mind, whatever works to help with your mental health as long as it’s in moderation, and isn’t harmful to others or yourself, then why discourage it? Some people NEED that type of hope. Some people are already in therapy and are on medications and meditate, but still need that sense of passion and symbolism that crystals and tarot cards and herbs bring to them. Calling crystals an “addiction” is like saying people who like, idk, cartoons and watch them to feel better are “addicted”, or people who read to calm down are “addicted”. Hobbies, and putting meaning to something even if it’s just a glorified rock, isn’t hurting anyone (but possibly your wallet if you aren’t diligent). But again, everything in moderation. Not everyone has it off as easy.

I do believe in crystals, but I don’t think we should have such high expectations and act as if carrying them in your pocket will make your life better. Crystals are supposed to improve your mindset and motivate you, they are not magic spells that’ll all of a sudden improve your life. I think when I realized that, it actually became much easier for me to work with crystals

I think you are the only one who had high expectations when carrying them in your pocket would make your life better. I know many people who have taken spirituality seriously and has appreciated and respected it from the beginning of there spiritual journey and not one has ever thought or ever did think carrying crystals in your pocket would make life better. Also there’s your problem right there, the fact you have started buying crystals and anything like that is because how it’s “the trend” right now and how you came across this stuff on social media. That right there is the number one problem, when people only start looking into spiritual things like crystals or anything along those lines that has to do with that type of spiritual work then you absolutely in no way respect or appreciate anything to do with spiritual work and that’s why you compulsive buy and become almost obsessive with buying anything to do with the spiritual work. Which is another reason why you thought carrying crystals in your pocket would make life better and if you actually respected and appreciated spiritual work right from the beginning and really educated yourself on the subject then you would have never in a million years thought that. When you learn to appreciate and respect Mother Nature and the beauty she gave us to help us on these spiritual journeys then you will actually see the beauty in what spiritual work can do to really help one in life until then, no nothing about spiritual work will help you in life because you clearly don’t appreciate or respect it enough to actually educate yourself and know how to actually use these spiritual things as one of the ways to help you in life and the proper way to use them.

Through my journey I have found a few crystals actually helps quite a bit. They are the followings: moldavite (high frequency and HELPS oneself with inner transformation ), phenakite (love this high frequency crystal that not only uplift ones spirit, HELPS with ones frequency & inner transformation), amethyst & moonstone (really good with calming oneself, especially during sleep), and selenite plate (the real type , not the ones you see people put candle in, this type helps with so many different chakra), and kyanite (it totally help balancing all the different chakras and also calms as well). Hope this helps, trying to curb materialism that's "inspirited" by our society culture thru not just limit our behavior but truly find what you need and also your passion so we can utilize our $$ for the greater good (like donation and volunteer our time and energy and help people fish instead give them fishes). I'll definitely steer clear of metaphysical shops that offer a quick fix for one $80 enhancement stone and go out in my own yard and collect flower petals, sticks, interesting rocks and bones and call myself fortunate enough to have discovered that Nature's gifts contain that most powerful essence of magick and, as part of Nature herself, i am but a divining rod with which to manifest the magick that dwells within and all around me already.

@@franmeis9612 well said! If Materialism means collecting lots of shiny rocks and items regardless of cost then I love materialism. My most valuable, spiritual ring cost like $12 I think? But it makes me incredibly happy and I feel the nature of magic inside of it, and I've worked hard to attune it stronger.
All of these things, rich and rare or common and affordable, are items of the universe and full of magic and spirit. The cost matters not, and I agree that avoiding that type of cost equals value materialism is something we should not allow to poison our hearts.
However I do think SOME rare stones can equate more "magic power" however you even measure that. Price and money is just an unavoidable part of the human equation, I do believe some expensive stones have more power purely because of their expensive nature, but that's gotta be like very very rare maybe only 1% of all the stones and crystals and all that can be valuable because of their "hard to acquire" nature which is what I believe the high cost allows us to feel, like we have earned something expensive and rare and therefore valuable.
It's a big mistake to let that way of thinking have any more than 1% of your time though!! But I can not deny its nature completly.

I can relate so hard. I also work at a metaphysical shop. I’ve been working there for over three years and the amount of people that come in everyday asking for stones that help with anxiety, depression, cancer etc. And I just don’t know what to tell them. And if I say “many people use aquamarine to help calm extreme emotions” and then they spend hundreds of dollars on aquamarine, it makes me feel scammy. It’s getting hard to do my job but to also tell people that a $300 piece of aquamarine will not make their anxiety disappear.

No offense but that is scammy. That shop is selling the wrong crystals for the wrong things. Aquamarine is a spiritual stone for spiritual guidance. So definitely wouldn’t want to give that to someone with anxiety. Research is always key with crystals. Sucks that that shop is selling crystals wrong. They’re definitely in it for the trend and money and that sucks.
I feel like it always leads to crystals getting a bad reputation. When there are crystal shops out there that are actually helpful and aren’t trynna just sell something expensive. I’ve been to a shop that had crystals that ranged from $1 to $500 and the. Owner was always telling people they don’t need a big fancy expensive crystal. That a tiny piece would work just as well. It was nice; I once saw them explain to someone that they didn’t need a $300 jade pyramid to become wealthy. They needed to believe in themselves. That person left without buying a crystal and the owner was completely fine with that and happy and they said it’s because they know they helped them spiritually. So there’s definitely great shops out there.
If you love working with crystals and helping people; I hope you find a great shop to work in that actually is about handling crystals right.

Just say to yourself "if these crystals have the ability to enhance my life then so be it" And then give it no more thought and enjoy wearing them without thinking too much about it. But if you are constantly obsessing over them and thinking about "What they should be doing" then you are creating an attachment. Which will bring you into a lower state of being.

I have a plushie at home that serves me some company, but I would like to have a crystal too, as it is easy to carry around and some are very beautiful, and I often feel deeply connected either to innanimate objects or nature, like they are my friends. This video was very helpful in understanding the mindset though. Thank you!

Now I did walking not knowing what I was looking for I was specifically looking for black obsidian for it's magickal properties as a aid to help I realize and understand that crystals and gemstones are not alone the be all and end all I realize that I have my part I see and use crystals and gemstones as tools I don't look to them to fix my problems they are tools to aid me so great wisdom you shared Thank you

This resonates with me. I have been on a spiritual path since my very low mental dip in high school and discovering astrology and crystals gave me a whirl of excitement. I immediately stopped to think that this might all be spiritual marketing and getting us vulnerable souls to spend thousands on things we don't necessarily need. I only recently confirmed my idea that everything we need to heal is already within us - thanks to magic mushies, hehe! Crystals are nice to have, though! Adds to the ambience of creating that energy to tap into the spiritual realm.

Then one day I realised that buying more and more of them (beautiful as they are) is just a kind of tripping out on the activity of crystal shopping. So I stopped pretty much overnight and made an intention to cultivate meaningful relationships with EACH of the crystals that have come to me. So much more satisfying! Love from Hong Kong.

Or are most of the people here the type that wants the gems to do all the work instead of having to do all the work instead of themselves? It didn't work for you because you didn't understand what it is the crystals help with, you still have to do the work they just help you channel the right energy when you do it...

I know that everything I need is inside of me, but I have been drawn to crystals at this time. Who knows, maybe I am drawn to them to learn an important lesson. On my path to true self awareness, I have realized that we all need the space to figure out our own way. Crystals are a symbol of spiritual guidance/ protection, sometimes we need "a thing" to help us open our minds to our own limitlessness divinity.

I started as a person who was chest deep into mineralogy and geology. I found them beautiful and such a wonder. Every mineral and crystal was formed in a certain way and in very specific conditions in very specific areas. I found them something to behold. I didn't start working with them until 2018. I started very young, collecting rocks and crystals. Even without the metaphysical stuff, I thought they were all so magical, through the eyes of a child.
I went into a spiritual path because it was something I felt drawn to to find truth, wisdom, and clarity through the Great Divine (aka Spirit, God, or Source). Tarot and other divination tools are used to do that amd connect with Source, but we can get lost. The path is always open, but trust in the Great Divine to ask them for guidance when you're lost. When we become lost, we lose the purpose and our truth in why we followed this path. We must continually ask ourselves why because we evolve and if we cannot find our reason, we will simply lose the path we were on. It's not a bad idea to take a break or to reevaluate your purpose. Good luck on your journey.

I dont believe in crystals having healing properties or anything, i really just like cool rocks. Although, I struggle with daily anxieties and fears so i think maybe keeping a beaded bracelet on me could help remind me to ground myself. Its not about the rocks, its about what you do with them and what it means to you.
For example, tigers eye is tied to feelings of courage. The rock itself doesnt give you courage but looking at it and knowing its purpose might make it easier to set goals, because you will always have that reminder.
Its kinda like tying a red string to your finger to remember something. It doesnt help your memory, but it helps as a visual reminder of what you need to do.
So for me, rocks are fascinating and i want to learn more about them. nature can make some pretty cool stuff, anyone can collect rocks it doesnt need to be spiritual.

I agree, and disagree in some aspects. depending on your intention when going into collecting stones will depend on your perspective of this as well. crystal collecting is all about intention guys. I have a box of stones from my grandma from years ago. thats how I started really collecting. so if perhaps you go into collecting with the mindset of looking for the biggest coolest stones it isn't really worth it. however if you go into collecting by your natal and birth chart, and really getting stones that incorporate with your daily life and healing, for example I have a virgo sun, which I sometimes get worrisome so the fluorite crystal varieties are essential for my healing and clarity. this is why I look for fluorite stones, etc. and so on and so fourth. so don't get wrapped up in the "trend" of collecting, and trying to outdo others, do it for yourself. you will see the difference. I personally have several stones, and have never really bought them to show off or anything. I barely even let them out when I have company. they are sacred in my eyes and truly a blessing to have. I am grateful for the earths stones. ^___^

And also a connection to the past, I mean most natural crystal take million years to form.

I used to hoard anything beauty related like crazy, and only these years have I began minimizing my makeup collection down to what I actually use. And I think seeing your situation gave me such a good reminder, for me to be careful not to take anything astrology related overly dependent on, because the hoarding mentality doesn’t just happen for beauty. I think it is easy for everyone to project worries and hopes completely on spiritual things, we’re all human after-all.

Crystals come from the earth therefore collect a substantial amount of energy and are very healing each in their own way so saying they are just rocks is really just absurd. In saying thay you have to be centred when using crystals and now that it's you that does most of the job in Healing or connecting to higher self. The crystal will follow your lead. I agree that we need to address our issues first before being able to completely understand and use crystals the right way and obviously they're not the ultimate healing tool but they are an energetic object that can help in some way.

You know, when you said the phrase "spiritual materialism", reminded me of when I was a christian as a teenager. If there is any religion that has put consumerism & profit before their spiritual journey...it's the evangelic christian community. The earth-based paths have to be careful that this doesn't happen to them.
That consumerism, materialism, & capitalism doesnt suck the soul out of your spirituality, whatever it is.
As far as needing all those tools to fix your life, but wont actually do anything to actually fix yourself or situation...Remember, Faith Without Works Is Dead.

Thank goodness I do not believe on metaphysical but truly love nature. I do collect crystals not for what it may do but the fact that they are made from nature and I feel connected to earth; knowing you have a piece of history in your hands is mind blowing to me. To me my collection is like trophies. I show them with pride.
It is true that at time I get lost in wanting one of everything and at times it gets overwhelming. With that said I have spaces myself in buying them. I don’t feel I need to buy them to feel better, I collect them because it gives me the opportunity to talk to other people about them and to feel part of that. I may be weird, idk, but I’m happy I have a collection that I feel proud of. At the end, if I decide not to continue, I will donate them to a museum. I have made so many friend just talking about them, in fact it becomes a community in which I feel part of. I spend time watching them and just looking at them. I understand your point. I just disagree that collecting stones is some sort of inner problem reflecting into buying. I do love my collection and feel proud about it. They have also helped me relieve stress from work and life. Just spending hours looking at them and just appreciating them is, to me, a way of self therapy. Me time. Some people paint, others sing, I collect rocks and crystals. I agree that people should get real help. As a nurse I understand that. I also understand that if it makes you happy and you are not hurting others as well as not becoming a problem then go for it.

I completely agree actually! If I didn’t believe in the metaphysical side or spiritual aspect of crystals, I definitely would collect them for their beauty. At the Natural History Museum I would spend hours in the crystal and gem hall and just marvel at how beautiful they are! I always felt that I was holding a piece of history as well! There is one called Isua Stone that is one of the oldest ones on earth and I always feel that it holds the memory of earth’s formative years! But, when you tie in the metaphysical and spiritual, and start collecting them with those ties, it CAN highly a deeper issue. Thank you for sharing your thoughts 💗

I'm definitely trying to utilize my crystals as guides. There is so much I've learned about myself without the help of crystals. I've been through the best and worst of it and I can say that my journey of getting to know myself has been nothing but wonderful, amazing and beautiful. If anything, my crystals help me paint a clearer picture when I'm weary. Most of the time, they reconfirm what I already know.
