Wonderful! Wonderful! Exact version I picked & sang to my little ones years ago. They are all grown now. I turned 78 this week. So thrilled to have stumbled on to this. Makes my heart smile. Exquisite singing and playing.
“Makes my heart smile.” Great comment! I feel exactly the same way.
I'm 50 and burl ives is a favourite with my kids. I sang these songs when I was little as well.
Happy birthday!!!
My mother did the same to me. Rest in peace. Good memories.
Wonderful performance from entire ensemble. Ms. Powell.s singing is delightful. And, she is a natural at selling a song with her acting skills.
Omg!! My mother just passed away at 76. She used to sing me this when I was little. She would sing every verse. ...had a GOOD cry. Thank you. Shout out to you, bolark60.
At last I have found the song that my mum sang to me when I was just a small boy 😁 I’m now 65 years young, great memories.
What a PURE DELIGHT she is!
The fox went out on a chilly night
He prayed for the moon to give him light
For he'd many a mile to go that night
Before he reached the town-o, town-o, town-o
He'd many a mile to go that night, before he reached the town-o
He ran 'til he came to the farmer's pen
The ducks and the geese were kept therein
He said, a couple of you are gonna grease my chin
Before I leave this town-o, town-o, town-o
Said a couple of you are gonna grease my chin, before I leave this town-o
He grabbed the great goose by the neck
And he threw a duck across his back
And he didn't mind the quack, quack
And the legs all dangling down-o, down-o, down-o
He didn't mind the quack, quack and the legs all dangling down-o
The old grey woman jumped out of bed
Out of the window she popped her head
Crying John, John, the great goose is gone
And the fox is on the town-o, town-o, town-o
John, John, the great goose is gone and the fox is on the town-o
He ran 'til he came to his nice warm den
And there were the little ones, eight, nine, ten
Sayin Daddy, Daddy, better go back again
For it must be a might fine town-o, town-o, town-o
Daddy, Daddy, go back again for it must be mighty fine town-o
The fox and his wife, without any strife
Cut up the goose with a fork and a knife
They never had such a supper in their life
And the little ones chewed on the bones-o, bones-o, bones-o
They never had such a supper in their life
And the little ones chewed on the bones
*Grey* goose. As in "Morse Moose and the" :)
Thank you! On my third sing-along!
I wish there were only children in this music hall. Delightfull!!!
I love this performance it was awesome!!
I came here because this was one of my favorite songs as a child - and I wasn't disappointed with the video!
My great-grandmother sang this every winter from Harlan County. Deep-rooted English folk song from high mountain country! I sing this to my family too and my daughter loves it!
My dad would sing this song on long road trips. I miss him so much.
True to the original. Great performance!
Wonderful!!!
OMG I think I'm in love with the violinist!
Wow,, really good
Amanda Powell sure does justice to this song.
Thanks!
beautiful!
This was my mother's favorite song to sing to my brother and me when we were growing up.
That was great fun. Thanks for posting this!
This is a lovely rendition!!!
A fox that visits my husband’s deer stand brought me here 😆. My mom used to recite this poem to us as a bedtime story, in the 70’s.
Nicely acted by the singer and a great arrangement. well done to all.
Fancy seeing you here 😂 I was watching something else from Apollo’s fire and then this came up on auto play!
@@lukedonoghue6167 Hi Luke, I'm everywhere on youtube.LOL.
@@pmadamson 😂 😂 😂
You must listen to Apollo’s Fire: ‘Glory in the Meeting House - the Encore version at tangle wood hall.
Great rendition! When the flute and fiddle fired up along with the hammer dulcimer during the breaks my Irish/Scottish DNA kicked in and feet wouldn't stay still. Goosebumps.
Completely English and dates back to 1500. I too get sick and tired of irish especially claiming everything is theirs. Half the time the clue is in the language.

The audience Oh My God! At least they applauded at the end. Good job covering this legendary Americana folk track.
!00% old English song brought to us by early settlers
I always thought it is an old English song, not from the USA.
Americana? This is one of the oldest secular songs in English, isn't it?

Brilliant! Love it!
Loved it what joy Amanda beautiful everyone Thankyou was
Ok. So after like 30 years of this being stuck in my head I finally found this song. I had sung this in chorus in the early 1990s and for whatever reason the song decided to embed itself in my brain for the next 3 decades. Brings back so many memories
Wonderful Song ❤❤❤❤
Two things that help, or three 1) all well in tune 2) Bass very loud 3) balance of volumes among the instruments -- compliments to the producer or knob-twister.
So fun!
wow just wow! ❤
LOVE =)
Jolly hard to beat this performance, totally joyous........
Wonderful spread of culture and talent. You are my new favorite. Dr. Ki
This is the best version I’ve ever heard. Sing it to my grandbabies all the time

No sabia que con un clavicembalo se acompañara musica del folklore americano, pero el resultado es muy bueno, me ha encantado. Felicidades.
It's an English song en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fox_(folk_song)
Apollo's Fire & Amanda Powell. I will bet that Amanda would also do good doing Mexican/Spanish songs!

Yes
Such delight

Sei forte brava
amazing... oh for a lighting scheme on this stage, black background, spread the instruments out a bit... just visual aids... the music and vocals are flawless.
I live in Powell Farm place.
👍🏻❤️👍🏻❤️👍🏻❤️!!!!
What is that plucked instrument with what looks to be a double body?
willmarona4811 responded to another comment that it is a gourd banjo 🙂
Hey what is that instrument near the cellist that looks a little like a banjo but looks like it has leather over two separate sound boxes that are gourd shaped?? I've never seen that before.
It’s a gourd banjo. They’ve become fairly popular lately and have a nice voice to them
Excellent!! But surely the audience could have at least joined in with the chorus!!
Thank heavens the audience remained silent
This is from my music class....
Amazingly fun vocals, and fun instrumentation. Needed harmony badly, but a verse I've never heard before! Dad did this after Burl Ive's version, as I do to this day....
Ive never heard this song with harmonies added. Do you have a particular performance of this in mind? I would sure like to hear it. My mom use to sing this to me in the early 60s is how I learned it.
pictures did they
2020 Music 🎼 has this song I get a weird at the end like at slurp part
Do foxes have a different system of counting their young? Why do the little ones start a eight?
If you aren't at least tapping your toes along to this, I do not want to know you.

Fox soğuk bir gecede dışarı çıktı
The Fox went out on a chilly night
Ay'ın ona ışık tutması için dua etti.
He prayed for the moon to give him light
Çünkü o geceye gitmek için bir mil yol kat etti.
For he'd many a mile to go that night
Kasaba-o, kasaba-o, kasaba-o'ya ulaşmadan önce
Before he reached the town-o, town-o, town-o
O gece kasabaya ulaşmadan önce gitmesi gereken kilometreyi o geçirdi.
He'd many a mile to go that night before he reached the town-o
Çiftçinin kalemine gelene kadar koştu.
He ran till he came to the farmer's pen
Ördekler ve kazlar orada tutuldu.
The ducks and the geese were kept therein
"Bir kaçınız çenemi yağlayacak" dedi.
He said "a couple of you are gonna grease my chin,
Bu şehri terk etmeden önce "
Before I leave this town "
Bu kasabadan ayrılmadan önce, birçoğunuzun çenemi yağlayacağını söyledi.
Said a couple of you are gonna grease my chin, before i leave this town-o
Boynundaki büyük kazı tuttu
He grabbed the great goose by the neck
Ve sırtına bir ördek fırlattı
And he threw a duck across his back
Ve şarlatan şarlatanın umrunda değildi
And he didn't mind the quack quack
Bacakların hepsi sarkıyor
And the legs all dangling down-o

The old grey woman jumped out of bed
Pencereye koştu ve kafasını fırlattı.

Güzel sıcak diline gelene kadar koştu.

Ve küçükler vardı, sekiz, dokuz, on
And there were the little ones, eight, nine, ten
Baba, baba, tekrar geri dönelim

What's with the lady in the purple in the back. she looks really board.

threw the gray goose behind his back;

and their legs all a-dangling down-o, down-o, down-o,

out of the window she cocked her head,
Crying, "John, John! The grey goose is gone
and the fox is on the town-o, town-o, town-o!"
Crying, "John, John, the grey goose is gone

Then John he went to the top of the hill,
blowed his horn both loud and shrill,
the fox he said, "I'd better flee with my kill
He’ll soon be on my trail-o, trail-o, trail-o."

Absolutely wonderful!!! However it is the prettiest and best dressed Appalachians I've ever seen. I doubt any of them had to go home and put wood on the fire.
Das Publikum flippt aus....
I like this at a quarter speed faster
какая странная экзальтированная тетенька
so well played, but the overacting looks really weird :)
Well, this is filmed, so it catches it all and every facial expression, but on stage this is definitely NOT overacting. :)
@@sofiac.6005 it looks... so scary...
Kinda creepy eyes not tryna be rude-
Who’s? I think Amanda’s eyes are gorgeous. ❤️
awful
Good job except for the singers exaggerated and needless gestures.
I LOVED those "exaggerated and needless" gestures. Ive heard the song before....so...those exaggerations are what kept me till the end. =) ha ha FUN!!
I showed this to my first graders, they really enjoyed the gestures, and copied them, it helped them remember the lyrics.
The song sounds pretty childish, do I think it's pretty cool n fun
What a PURE DELIGHT she is!
