Bruce Chandilng is an ingenious character, and Kyle is a fine actor.

It's a good character, but it's also totally borrowed material from Eugene Levy's Bobby Bitman (SCTV)
I agree. He nails it, all the micro-expressions, vulnerability and goofiness. Perfect character.
That's fine with me. Art isn't made in a vacuum. Eugene Levy can't pull off Bitman the same way today, but it's nice to see someone keep the spirit of Bitman alive in a modernized version. SCTV made alot of great characters that are just as funny now as they were back then. In fact, I would say that Bruce Chandling is closer in character to Bobby's brother Skip Bitman in terms of bombing shows.

Bruce Chandling gets the zig once again. Come on SNL, this character needs more air time. The Kevin Hart vid was awesome.

Kyle always plays this character so perfectly. It's usually lost on the crowd, but I love it.
Which is a shame. His and Beck's stuff is so great but the audience usually doesn't get it. What a waste.
They need to build of the success of this and make their own show.
did you survey the crowd? If you want to feel smarter then other people theres more reliant methods to go about it then to imagine a heterogenous crowd full of individuals as one block and imagine yourself superior. Thats just sad.

I hate how much I love his look of confused betrayal at the audience laughing at the corny jokes Cannon is telling, probably jokes he's even sold to him. Like, to me anyways, his face is screaming, "What. The. Actual. Fvck." And because of this, I know I'll love Mooney in ANY drama he chooses.

Tom's first big gig in the early 80's was in Bosom Buddies, which was pretty physical comedy heavy!

LMAO that is genuinely all he is in this sketch.......most people would never notice or are too young.....but Tom played basically this same exact character when he hosted on February 20th, 1988.....it was a sketch called "Observational Standups" where it was just a bunch of comics backstage doing phony Jerry Seinfeld type shtick

It was before Jerry was truly famous and was considered to be a big sign of respect.....Tom was one of the comics with Dennis Miller, Jon Lovitz, Dana Carvey

It's unnerving how good Kyle Mooney is at bringing this character to life.
I watch Kyle and Beck since late Good Neighbor. Both R great actors, great writers. IMHO SNL format doesn't make them shine as these guys can, but occasionally, sketches like this one (1 on 1 Weekend Update interviews or those with limited cast), remind me, why Kyle is sooo damn good in his characters ;)! Go KYLE!!! And go... Tom ;))!
I love it when Kyle makes a really good joke and then the guy he's with explains the joke to the audience, turning a satiric gold mine into a standard crazy guy-straight man bit

This is actually pretty genius how it covers a wide range of the real workings of a struggling comic in such a short amount of time. From the hair, the outfit, the crappy jokes, to another comic stealing the spotlight, into the depression that MOST comics have offstage and also material theft. All in 5 mins..AWESOME

Wow this was so good! I haven't watched SNL in yearsssss, but wanted to see Tom Hanks, and after seeing the "America's Dad" monologue and then Leslie Jones' "Being Hacked" Update and THEN this I was like oh shit, SNL is getting REAL and I dig it! But then I saw this was cut for time and I was like damn what a shame. It's the contrast in emotion literally side by side and how GREAT they both did. Roller-coaster of feels from this and that's great entertainment. Never heard of Kyle Mooney before today but will def check him out now!
Man, I know SNL is a big step up from making youtube videos, but SNL just isn't the right venue for Kyle's comedy. On a television network there's a need to appeal to a mass audience and draw in as many viewers as possible. SNL wants to appeal to both you and your mothers sense of humor, and the end result is just something that doesn't really make either of you laugh. When Kyle was just making youtube vids with his buds, this wasn't so, their top priority was just making the funniest video possible.

The whole episode was just fantastic. Usually they have one or two (sometimes more) sketches that are just meh but this week every single one was awesome and they had to cut this cute thing, such a shame. Tom Hanks was just adorable in all the sketches and in this - adorably irritating. And Mooney is amazing, his expressions and timing are priceless.
