In the state of NM, if you add turn signals this Polaris would be street legal. Then the question would be why? Jeep hands down beats this thing for all around use any day.
When shifting the JK into low range, never put a bunch of strength on the shifter. It will break the bushings on the linkage. Shift into neutral, let it slightly roll, and then move the shifter. If done right, it will just slide into or out of low range.
Something they never seem to note is that the manual for the Jeep states that if trying to shift into 4L at a stand still difficulty can occur. It actually states to be rolling just a little, shift transmission to N and then shit to 4L. If they would do the process correctly then he would have much less issues.
@@markmonroe7330 This isn't a "jeep thing". Its every t-case with low range and an automatic transmission thing. The vehicles with an electronic shifter will sit there trying over and over until it gets into gear. Rolling at 1-2mph in neutral makes it very easy to shift. And for manuals, you just put the clutch in and shift, very simple.
In my F150 and my previous RAM 1500, I can select 4low from a dead stop and it shifts on the first try every time. Most modern 4x4’s have a clutch in the transfer case now to allow both 4auto and 4low without moving.
Tfl should invest in offroad driving class for your guys. It's obvious that they don't know how and when to use lockers and low range. For a channel that does a lot of offroad reviews, it would be nice to see someone who actually knows how to drive offroad doing the reviews.
yeah for sure i dont watch hardly of there offroad stuff, especially involving UTVs because they just have no idea what there doing or talking about. its painful for an experienced off roader its like watching a teen in his first machine
Somebody needed to do this video. The Polaris is ridiculous. Why not take the Jeep so it will also be street legal? I'd go Wrangler every time if these were the only two options. Hell, you could buy a NICE Wrangler Rubicon on the used market and keep $15k in your pocket. These UTVs have just gone too far. And for F sake, the owners manual clearly states to roll forward at 2 MPH when shifting to 4-Low. It's easy peasy as Roman would say if done correctly.
They did the same thing with Tacoma locker, acting like it doesnt engage when, by design, you are supposed to roll forward after pressing the locker button.
Because the SxS can go places that the Jeep can't, due to it being much narrower. If you compare the 2 door Wrangler to the 2 door Polaris, the length difference and wheel base is even more biased towards the SxS, (Wrangler 96.8" wheel base and 166.8" overall length, Polaris 87.5" wheelbase 122.5" overall length.) You can also get the Polaris General which is even shorter with a 83" wheel base and 118.2" overall length.
One you can drive to the trail, the other you have to trailer. I’m definitely NOT anti-SXS, but for Colorado and Utah, they just don’t seem to make sense (not enough SXS only trails and some towns are banning them). You can take a stock 4WD vehicles through most Colorado trails without issue. Now it TN where there are SXS only off-road areas, I could see myself getting one.
That new obstacle is a nice addition but I feel it needs a log or something at the crest of it. Every time a vehicle climbs it the angle will be reduced without something solid there. It would also create more of a challenge to have more of a ledge. I'm afraid over time it would just become easier and easier to do as tires and undersides of cars scrape it away and lessen the angle/ crest so it wouldn't be apples to apples comparisons.
14:12 Remember, Andre had his sway bars disconnected and running on 35". You can also remove the sway bars on the Xpedition, just not electronically like the Jeep. And with a long travel suspension kit or forward lift kit, you can also run 35" tires on the Xpedition, but not in factory form.
You can literally disconnect the sway bars on any vehicle on the planet. The benefit on a rubicon or bronco badlands….you can do it from the drivers seat.
The Polaris makes sense if you are rich and own a ranch and the ranch is huge and it gets super cold in the winter and you are unaware that you can buy a true 4wd Kei Truck for like 15-25kish...
I’ll take manual levers over electronic switches any day! When my old CJ2a wouldn’t start, easy to shift and roll start. Could run fender deep in water crossing and not worry about electrical issues with servos. Just keep the water below the fuse box and intake!
I'd much rather have a cheep Jeep or pickup over the Polaris. The cost for features might be reasonable for an ATV but there's no way I could spend that much on something that can't be driven to the store.
I grew up riding fourwheelers. Specifically, a 1986 Honda Foretrax 350 4X4. That thing was indestructible. Later on, a Foreman 450. Also a well put together machine. That was really before side by sides gained popularity. I always felt that Honda had better quality than Polaris, especially back then. Which I wish that weren't the case because I am born and raised in MN. I thought that as the years went by, Polaris would've upped their quality a lot, but this machine sounded unrefined. I wouldn't buy this machine for $47K. I'm sure it's great off-road, but I feel that that is way too much money for something that needs refinement. Plus looking around the cabin, I'm just not seeing it. I'd really have to be using it everyday like on a farm or spend quite a lot of time on trails with my family to justify that money. My initial thought on naming the obstacle - Humpty Hill. But reading through the comments I do like Breakover Berm as well. Also, seeing as how they're naming these obstacles after the guys, I think we need to come up with something clever for Alex.
Not to take anything away from the Polaris, it looks like a fantastic vehicle. But it’s just an off-road vehicle, and unless I can legally registered to drive on the road, I would think for most people at these prices the jeep is a better use of our money. I bought the Polaris I would additionally need a vehicle and a trailer to get it to the off-road site.
A HUGE factor to consider too, though, is the fact that the Jeep is 50 state street legal. Side-by-side UTV's have a difficult time becoming street legal in many places, and in some places such as where I live in CT, there is NOTHING you can do to make them street legal. -also, I would name your new obstacle "speed bump". 😂
You guys definitely need to learn SXS’s (especially CVT’s) a bit… I would recommend changing that belt before you go on long trips by yourselves… Always be in low range when crawling or anywhere slow enough where the clutch won’t be constantly engaged (approximately 15mph depending on terrain)..
Horrific transmission noise, and harshness in the Polaris.. the CVT gearbox has no place in this vehicle, proving its just built to a price (for the extras) while the running gear remain unchanged
..... can we just all agree pricing has gone full stupid? This is a large 4wheeler with a loose cab slapped on costing as much as a good used Rubicon JLU. This is just getting dumb.

I have seen a Polaris outfitted with a mini gun during my days in uniform. Very cool. That said, I think the Jeep is better all around just because I can legally drive it on the road not just off road
I did not think the Polaris would outrun the jeep 🤯 If I was for sure doing 40% or more of my time off roading, I would buy a high end SXS like the Xpedition and a good used truck to pull the SXS. I’ve owned a heavily modified XJ for over 13 years and I would rather have a dedicated rig for play. Xpedition would be awesome, but I would not want a first year of production and when I did buy one it would be used and heavily modified by me or previous owner. LOL Jeeps are amazing fun, luv me sum off road adventuring!
It's ridiculous cost of atvs , utes even used. It's cheaper to buy a jeep, toyota or short bed pickup. And cheap to fix the car than an arv, easier find parts. And a vehicle is safer, on off road .
Sooo it’s a Jeep that’s not street legal… Ok, out west in Texas, Colorado, Utah, or one of the wide open states where you can own a huge ranch and want to drive it but it’s all your property it might make sense. Otherwise get a Jeep, or maybe a Bronco, then you can still go to the get supplies in town.
That button he had his finger on is a sway bar disconnect ( electronic ). Im assuming both of you dont off road alot. He can use that to keep both front wheels solid on the ground. The Rubicon model is set to go from the dealership parking lot. Best to use better off road personalities that know what they are doing. I know your pushing the polaris but you shoul be comparion theor equal in UTV.
Since Alex doesn't have moniker on trail & came up in part, I say it should be appropriately called: Alex's massive(or generous 🤔either or)endowment - no doubt a double entendre😂❤
The only argument for the Polaris is outright off-road capability and off road speed. It's a difficult argument once you get so close to a jeep or other vehicles because it is more pigeon-holed with applicable usage. The Polaris is louder, creakier, less refined, less versatile, arguably less reliable and will be harder to sell when it comes time to swap. They're walking a close line to becoming a "normal" vehicle and I'm not sure that's a great place to be for a sxs, especially at that price.

Thanks for the fun video!
I don’t like the expectations of the expedition only because the miles that you put on side-by-side’s or not as effective as actual automobiles you would have to rebuild the engine after 4 to 5000 miles
Over the years, you’ve talked a lot about why solid axles are better for off road. And yet, there are no side-by-sides or ATVs that have solid axles front and rear, with only older and less capable models having solid rear axles. Could you do a breakdown at some point on why it is that these purpose-built ORVs do better with independent axles?
@@TonyChin226 Maybe? I’ve ridden an older ATV with a solid rear axle, and several more modern ones with fully independent suspension. The only one I’ve actually rolled was the older one. I wasn’t doing anything particularly aggressive when it happened, and it definitely felt quite a bit tippier just generally.
Independent suspension is better for higher speed stuff. This has always been true. Solid axles are far better for slower speed articulation and durability. Independent suspension is very fragile. Just look at how often Bronco's are breaking front end parts. Where as on a new Wrangler people throw 37's on them and just go wheeling. They can certainly break with abuse. But its been pretty well proven then IFS doesn't hold up. And it is worth noting that side by sides have CVs and a-arms break all the time. Just watch some of the recovery youtube channels. Its a non-stop stream of broken side by sides.
I have a polaris sxs and have a ton of fun with it but unless you like to replace parts frequently wich i don't!! Go with a jeep. 2500 miles and i have changed a-rm bushings 3 times, driveshaft, front diff bearings, wheel bearings.. the list goes on and I'm an old guy that cruises west Virginia trails at 10-15mph .. big waste of money but fun
50k side by side, I think I go with the jeep for the obvious reasons... rather spend 5k or 10k more but you would be street legal, airbags, more comfort, plenty of room for upgrades, could get a used jeep for that price too.... if that polaris would be in the 30k range, absolutely.
jeep could have done the logs at 30mph and been as stable as the SxS. Real offroaders know that going slower doesn't mean smoother on obstacles like that, but this ad isnt for us
I honestly dont understand the point of side by sides. We have one but its more or less to drag a deer out or move wood on the property, or to go into the swamps to get things. The reason i say i dint understand them is because we have a group near us who dont take them off road. They literally just drive up and down the back roads in convoys. Absolutely nothing wrong with that. But for the price of this, and if all im doing is driving on roads id just get a truck lol.
We're living in a world that's gone completely insane. $40k for a used jeep that should cost that brand new, and $47k for a rubber band driven POS that should cost no more than $20k on a good day, given that it costs half that to make. My father in law just paid $29k for an almost brand new (9000km) 2022 Hilux 4door 1 ton, TD, manual transmission, with rear locker. Obviously he doesn't live in the lands of crazy.
At this point, can't we all agree Polaris is just a bit too full of themselves? This is nowhere near a good value, and yet they built it because they know their cult will buy it.
Small town in Arizona here, UTVs are everywhere. Street/Highway legal so they’re driven casually around town. Large enough properties that you’d buy one just to get around your ranch. Plenty of the backroads here are smaller, too small for a full size car and way too small for anything larger, plus lots of hills and mountains to crawl up. Anyone wondering why someone would buy a UTV/SxS over a Jeep clearly isn’t the target demographic!
11:50 That does not sound like you had the Xpedition in Low gear for this climb. 11:57 in low gear it wouldn't have to rev that high to get going up that hill, so you were using all motor on that climb. Update, nevermind you figured it out.
In the state of NM, if you add turn signals this Polaris would be street legal. Then the question would be why? Jeep hands down beats this thing for all around use any day.
Hell it beats it off-road too except in situations where size and weight is the limiting factor. There’s no replacement for large tires.
Street legal, but not highway legal. Thats the biggest con of any SxS compared to something highway legal.
Wa St too

50k side by side, I think I go with the jeep for the obvious reasons... rather spend 5k or 10k more but you would be street legal, airbags, more comfort, plenty of room for upgrades, could get a used jeep for that price too.... if that polaris would be in the 30k range, absolutely.
Roman's chin should be the name for that obstacle!!
Breakover Hill would be a good name for that little obstacle.
obstacle name , one small step or Apollo ! One small step for Jeep one giant leap for off road vehicles !
These utv's price ranges are getting way out of hand. Double or triple what they should be
Its interesting seeing your driving, i dont know if this is meant to be funny but... to each their own
Now do the video where you road trip both of them to Moab and compare the fuel economy. Oh.... wait....
Nice comparison guys. New obstacle should be called sudden inflation with that steep climb!
jeep could have done the logs at 30mph and been as stable as the SxS. Real offroaders know that going slower doesn't mean smoother on obstacles like that, but this ad isnt for us
For the money, Jeep any day.
You can drive the jeep anywhere in this country, all roads legal, can keep up to speeds, hwy whatever, Polaris sxs, not so much!
If it’s not a four-door convertible, then it can’t compare
I will take a geared transmission over a cvt for offroad every time.
" the obstacle with no name" would be a play off the old spaghetti westerns
Mopar’s Mound! Should be the name of the new obstacle!!
My x3 done all that in 2wd! Might name that gopher mount tiny pimple!
I’ll take the Jeep!
Even if I could drive it on the road, there’s no way I’d even consider trading my JLUR for this….
Name suggestion for the un-named obstacle: Anthill
I honestly dont understand the point of side by sides. We have one but its more or less to drag a deer out or move wood on the property, or to go into the swamps to get things.
The reason i say i dint understand them is because we have a group near us who dont take them off road. They literally just drive up and down the back roads in convoys.
Absolutely nothing wrong with that. But for the price of this, and if all im doing is driving on roads id just get a truck lol.
Solid axles will out preform the independet suspension offroad
We're living in a world that's gone completely insane. $40k for a used jeep that should cost that brand new, and $47k for a rubber band driven POS that should cost no more than $20k on a good day, given that it costs half that to make. My father in law just paid $29k for an almost brand new (9000km) 2022 Hilux 4door 1 ton, TD, manual transmission, with rear locker. Obviously he doesn't live in the lands of crazy.
"Boulder's Bump" - since you all are out of Boulder and, you know, you drive over boulders a lot
"Busted Bracket Bulge", in honor of the random part that Andre found
The new obstacle should be called, "the Speedbump".
10% of sales are people like you, 90% are people that should have bought a jeep or toyota
Name it the cow pie.
New obstacle? The Mole Hill!
11:50 That does not sound like you had the Xpedition in Low gear for this climb. 11:57 in low gear it wouldn't have to rev that high to get going up that hill, so you were using all motor on that climb.
Update, nevermind you figured it out.
That obstacle should be named “Ant Hill”. Or “Ant Mound”
Jeep looks like it's still a member of the 40psi club
I know haha
