    I have been making my own envelopes for quite a while now. I buy some still but mostly the bigger sized ones like 5x7 sized envelopes. But otherwise I have a pattern I got from RUclips and it is quite easy. It makes the square flap envelopes. I use the double sided sticky tape with pull off strip to close them. I can put the tape on. Leave the backing on and when ready to mail. Pull off the backing as you woeful do on any envelope and mail.

    I must admit I almost didn’t watch this thinking it was just another tool for making envelopes that was too difficult to use. I was wrong, and I’m so glad I watched. This video is full of a ton of useful information! I can’t wait to start making envelopes to go with my cards!! Thank you, Jennifer, for showing us how easy it is to make envelopes, and for going above and beyond and providing useful info on how to mail them!

    I make a lot of my cards in sets to give as gifts. For those envelopes, I put a couple strips of double-sided tape where you would normally find adhesive, but leave the backing paper on. The recipient won’t even have to lick the envelope! Thanks for sharing your talents!!! 😊❤️

      When I Hand-give a handmade Card I Always (90% of the time) do that exact same thing with the envelope, I put a cute band around it so they can slide it off & I made labels that I attached on the inside of the card telling them this envelope is to be Re-used & I do the same thing with that awesome tape. It is a Great way to Use & Re-Use.

    I'm glad someone came out with envelope dies. I believe the last envelope would have to be written so the address info is seen on the long side, not the top narrower opening so that you don't have to pay extra (in the US) for an odd sized envelope. That would be nice to see in a video, what can be sent for a regular stamp with no extra charges.

    One idea I got from Lindsay The Frugal Crafter is to use single sided patterned paper and assemble the envelope with the white side on the outside and the pattern to the inside. It is good for mailing and a nice surprise for the recipient when they see the pattern inside.

    Love the video. I have been using the we r memory keeper envelope board. For now I’m going to stick to that as the dies are pricey + shipping to Canada and the dollar exchange currently take it out of my price range. I love the ideas on making the different flaps. Have to see what I can do with the envelope board to create that. Always love your videos and your many options!

    This die cutting method is far more complex for me, compared to the punch board technique or even drawing around envelope templates by hand, like I still do. But its great that we have options - some work better for some people, others for other people. Thanks for sharing anotber method, lots of crafters will like this 👍

    I have the large envelope die from Sizzix but you need the big shot pro! It does make beautifully professional envelopes and I use 8.5 x 11 inch paper and cut two at a time since the die is a bigz die. For the longer dies I use the extended cutting plates from Sizzix. Just another way to die cut your own envelopes. Thank you for sharing this video♥️😊

    Over the years I decided that If I make a card I ALWAYS Make a Brightly colored envelope. People Really Enjoy the Different colors & prints & I enjoy doing it. It's Noticeable when they get their mail & it Doesn't Blend in with the other mail. YES, You NEED to use a White Address label if envelope is printed paper or a dark colored paper. Yes, I use the cardstock to make for cards that are a bit bulky, it Helps alot. I also use Clear 2" packing tape to put over the label just to make sure the label doesn't become smeared as for Many of the people I write to I have Pre-Made address labels for them. Some Inks will Smear if they get wet, and since it is out of our control after we take them to the mail box there is the possibility especially if in the winter months that the envelope might get wet from rain, so I make sure I protect the front & use a piece of scotch tape over my own return address label. These that you have shown are different & interesting templates for sure. I would Probably just cut them out with scissors rather than run them thru my cutter. I have several kinds of envelope templates I've used over the years but I like the We R Memory Keepers punch board much better. However your templates you are showing are worth looking into. Thanks for giving us another option. Great Video..

    I really, really liked the idea of getting this die and making matching envelopes. However, that price of $40 for this die was extraordinary high. Yes, it is a bigger die, but ... there really isn't much to this die so that should offset the price somewhat. Sorry .... just a lot of money for something that does one thing and one size.

    • @jennifermcguireink
      @jennifermcguireink  4 года назад +6

      first, don't be sorry! i don't sell them. ;) But i do know that this price is what it needs to be. there is one die manufacturer in the US. they charge for the overall size. not how thin they are, etc. So it has to be priced this way. Wish it could be lower! :) And I mentioned, it isn't for everyone. just for those who would make lots of envelopes :)

    • @sped17373
      @sped17373 4 года назад

      @@jennifermcguireink It's still too pricey in reality. Plus I don't understand why the side flaps have to be separate pieces that have to be glued on. Making envelopes is easy--just take any envelope you want to duplicate, carefully de-construct it so the flaps are no longer stuck together, then lay this on a piece of cardstock. Trace all around the edges and then cut it out with an Exacto knife (and a steel edge ruler if you can't cut straight lines) and now you have your template for making more envelopes. I can't understand why so many card/envelope makers on RUclips spend so much money on expensive die cutting machines and the also spend money on the dies themselves when you can do it quite easily with an Exacto knife.

    • @jennifermcguireink
      @jennifermcguireink  4 года назад +1

      they made the sides separate so it could fit through a regular die cut machine. no need for a big one. yes, making your own by tracing and cutting is the cheapest option. But i am looking for what is fast and easy. Glad that works for you! :)

Maybe not all at once and maybe wait for a sale. You sold me on the different options and mix and matching papers. I have the other tool from WRMK and while I know it works well for others, it doesn’t for me. Me and measurements just don’t mix. So when I need a special one I get a friend to help me. For that price point why didn't SSS include 2 of the triangle side piece dies so that it only needs one pass - especially as they could have done that for no extra cost to them - I know how the manufacturing pricing of dies works!

    If you have a punch board, great. If an envelope die is too expensive, don’t buy it! It’s that simple. Just thought that I'd mention that when you add the clear plastic sleeve envelopes over another envelope, USPS charges a fee called a non-machinable surcharge (currently an extra $0.15) because it can't go through the standard letter sorting machinery.
    This is the same fee they charge for square envelopes, those that don't bend, contain coins or pens, and those with uneven thickness -- like when we add thick embellishments and/or firm multiple layers to our cards. ;)
    If it weighs an ounce or less, USPS sells special non-machinable "butterfly" stamps that are worth the investment -- especially because they act like "forever" stamps regardless of future non-machinable rate increases. If your card exceeds 1 oz just add one "additional ounce" stamp to the non-machinable stamp for each additional ounce (BTW, these also act like forever stamps).

    Hello. I like to do my own enveloppes but the price of one die + shipment to Europe (15$) is too much for a single size. I have to stick to my punch board. I see another thing to do with the die : a gatefold card. Am I wrong ?

      I have a video coming out on my channel on Monday, showing an easy way to make the 5x7 envelopes without a die, using minimal supplies and best of all, you'll only need a sheet of cardstock 8 1/2 x 11! I'm so excited about it, I'll also have free downloads that you can print for reference AND a score template. I'd love for you to check out my channel!

    The post office will also take a card in the clear plastic envelopes without putting the card in a white envelope. (Only good for cards without a lot of embellishments!) I use to just put me address on a label and stick it to the front of the clear envelope. Bonus-employees at the post office can ohh and ahh over your cards.

    I have been using my Martha Stewart scoring board successfully for several years. I bought the large and small boards at a garage sale. The measurements are on the back of the boards and easy to follow. The large board has a triangular insert stored in a pocket on the back. RUclips has videos on how to use the tools.
