Terminator 2 was really made for one overriding reason and it wasn't just a cash grab: Cameron wanted to realize the liquid metal effect. He'd had that idea way back when conceiving the first movie but couldn't do it because of the limitations of the technology back then. So he dropped it for the first movie but as the '80s developed and he experimented with a prototype of that effect on The Abyss, he realized that CGI was making his dream of a liquid metal Terminator a real possibility. It also helped that by 1991 Schwarzenegger was a much bigger star than in 1984, so any new Terminator movie starring him was bound to be a box office hit. Plot-wise, though, you're right, I've always considered T2 just a rehash of T1 but with a twist: this time they're after the boy and not his mother.
@@robsmoviecollection3715 Not all the consequences were good though. There's a good article online I recommend called "Terminator 2 at 30: Groundbreaking sequel that led to CGI laziness". Well worth a read.
I agree about another Terminator film being unecessary. But the sequel was very well made (although repeating the chase story again) it didnt disgrace the original film, as so many sequels so often do, TERMINATOR 2 is perhaps the more important film of the two, because of the emphesis on the nuclear threat more, & the struggle to survive was even more amped up, Cameron didnt want anyone else directing a sequel which explains the long time gap between the 2 films.
The sequel WAS very well made and it gave us one of the most unique characters in sci fi in the T-1000 so despite it all I'm glad we have it. And you made a great point about it not disgracing the original film. So many of these sequels and continuation these days can't seem to handle that and they often end up killing the originals characters we grew up with (see my video-Stop killing my guys). A great comment thank you very much!
Well, I think the idea that another evil Terminator and a protector were sent back in time could be explained by Kyle being briefed on a need-to-know basis. And I think that was Cameron's intention with the Future War sequences he wrote but never filmed for T2. Anyway, subscribed!
I agree on just T1 and T2. Because they do find the Arm and Cpu. , its like technology getting a advanced push in these findings, and getting the T1000 arriving

If he’s gonna make another terminator film, it should come out in 2029, which was the year mentioned in the original film when Kyle Reese is sent back in time to 1984 to protect Sarah Connor. By then, CGI and AI should be advanced enough where they can make the Kyle Reese character look exactly like Michael Biehn at that age. But then that should be it! Although they attempted to do this in Genisys, all you saw was a few brief scenes of this, but they completely polluted the timeline unnecessarily.
Oh my God I thought I felt old when we hit 2015 and I realized it was the "future" that Marty McFly went to in Back to the future 2! Now were only a couple of years away from the Terminator future-and the end of that war, lol!
I think so. The Terminators look so awesome, up there with aliens and predators, and the story and setting and music and everything is something so cool, it's worth returning to as much as possible. The sequels sucked, yes, but if they stuck with real effects instead of CGI, maintained the horror, made the bad guy actually seem threatening, they couldn't go wrong. Terminator movies are like Mega Man games in that way. People these days go on about Ripley and Sarah, but the main draw of those films were Arnie in the first one, and T-1000 in T2.
You're right, Ripley and Sarah are great characters and heroes but every hero is only as good as their opponent and they have fantastic ones in the Terminators and the xenomorphs for sure Love the comment i really appreciate it!
Yeah, another example. Not really needed from a story point of view but glad they made it because it was amazing and it helped that the tone was so different than the first one. I will agree that it may not have been necessary at first, but when it was made, it ended up not only being great and in my personal opinion better than the original. When it comes to the movie explaining things, I have to say that I don't even think the first movie explains everything about time travel either. It explains enough and doesn't bombard you with exposition, but I doubt Kyle Reese's knowledge was complete and there might have been gaps in what he knew about the time machine that would be left to interpretation.
Thank you that was a great comment! We know that Kyle certainly didn't know that he had fathered John Conner so I guess it makes sense that there would be other info that John may have kept from him.
I don’t consider T2 a cash grab because it was clear both Schwarzenegger and Cameron had a lot more they wanted to do and explore there artistically. Cameron was no longer limited by a small budget, and that created some cool moments. But yeah, in retrospect, everything after T2 was really not necessary.
Good comment! They certainly had more to add form a effects point of view. The technology that created the T-1000 was a leap forward in special effects that benefited the whole film industry for decades. And we certainly got one of the best character arc for Sarah Conner. She was so different in the second film!
I think the Skynet that sent the T-1000 back is a different Skynet from the one in the first movie. That can explain how they sent back new Terminators. T2 is still relevant as giving us one of the greatest heroines in cinema.
I agree about the heroine. Sarah Conner is one of the greats and I even think she's already heroic in the first one two, especially at the end. I t was great character arc for her.
For me Terminator 1 and 2 are the best movies ever made with Arnold Schwarzenegger as the cyborg. After that it became more worse. Terminator 1 was a dark, creepy movie where he was the real Terminator..That fearless unstoppable killing machine! In Terminator 2 he more became the good guy the protector who wasn't allowed to kill anymore, but it has a great storyline with lot of action. But after that the Terminator became more civillized, especially in Terminator Dark Fate wich is a great movie with Linda Hamilton back in action.
