About:
Jason and Lorraine. In 2016 we sold most of our belongings and left the city in southern California to start a small homestead in the mountains of North Carolina. We left the city in search for a more minimal and intentional life to live our passions and grow food! We became passionate about what we put into our bodies and how to care for our bodies after I (Jason) became diagnosed with cancer. Now 8 years in remission we as a family are on a journey to live our dream.
We started RUclips videos to keep our family back out west up to date on our happenings, also to inspire others to live their dream and to show everyone our highs and lows on this incredible life changing journey!
Well, I lived in Massachusetts for years and we fixed our frozen pipe problems by moving to Arizona. Good luck and many blessing to you and your family.
haha! I hear ya!
Jason, am up the road a piece at the foot hills of the Blue Ridge Mtns so feel your "chill" lol. From an ol' plumbers perspective you did an awesome job thawing but please keep a close eye on the space heater under there due to fire risks from the lint cobwebs I seen and simple dust in cobwebs. Now to resolve future concerns start by getting a vinyl jacket fiberglass insulation for the pvc pipes seen there at tank area, can put a heat tape on pipes first; highly recommend; the heat tape can be plugged in on these constant low temp days. The insulation will handle most freezing temp situations for a couple days without plugging in the tape. The very low temps with the winds we have had with them, is the true culprit for freezing lines. I also noticed the type of under pinning has large amounts of vents holes. I would look into taking those panels out and investing in temp controlled air vents. These are new code recommendations for mobile homes. Know this was lengthy and apologize, just like to make clarification of what want to say. All the best and feel free to reachout if any questions you may have or need recommendations on any of above suggestions on where to get material.
Oh, awesome info! I will look into all of this. we appreciate the info!
you need to purchase heat tape and wrap them. I have spent 17 years in a mobile home and had to use my hair dryer more than once in Michigan. Once I added heat tape (plug it in every year in the winter and unplug in spring) I no longer had the problem.
norweavernh Yeah I was just going to suggest insulating the pipes with pipe lagging and tape in time for next year which should hopefully save him time year after year. The heater obviously works too though. ☺
Yes ... heat tape. We just wrapped a back flow preventer at our job site in Weaverville. Ace - cost $30 ... keeps the pipes warm and no worries! That’s what you need.
Heat tape. Everyone is suggesting this heat tape. First time hearing about this. Sounds wonderful and thanks for the info! We hope you have a good day!
I use heat tapes plugged into a thermo cube so it turns on when the temperature gets 35 degrees under the house. Off at 45 degrees. So it is self monitoring.
Run the dryer vent to under the house.I put clothes in the dryer about 3am.and it keeps it warm under house.
Just did this today! The addition on our house (just a bedroom and bathroom) had zero insulation in the crawl space when we moved in back in 2018 and we never had any issues the room was just cold in the winter, I insulated it this fall preparing for the winter and we had a frozen hot water pipe this morning! It’s been freezing cold the past day (it was -7 last night -27 with windchill) and when I came downstairs this morning no hot water in the bathroom sink. Put the space heater in the bedroom into the bathroom and put a space heater in the crawl space for about 15 mins and we had water. Very happy this trick worked and no busted pipes or anything!
When I lived in a mobile home, I had to replace a busted frozen pipe. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, probably because I also invested in my first pair of insulated coveralls. Heat tapes after that. Now I live in a stick house and must open the cabinet doors and leave a drip any time temps are under 20 degrees, and occasionally it still freezes. I'm enjoying your channel. Subscribing today.
Nice! I have not dealt with busted pipes yet. I been wanting some insulated coveralls! Thanks and I hope you have a good week!
Jason I live in Missouri on a crawl space. Last year was my first experience also. Father in law let me borrow a kerosene heater. Turn it down and keep it a distance from things and it will unfreeze those pipes in minutes! I feel your stubble man. Don’t want to deal with it this winter. Already crawled under there once and it was horrible.
This and all the comments are very helpful . I’m a single woman in a mobile for the first time and today my pipes are frozen for the second tine in 3 weeks . I had a plumber come and put a new water meter on . I had an electrician come and create a new heat trace to the heat tape . He said the heat tape was working . But apparently not . Because here I am today in the same place . This is my first winter in this home . It’s -15c ( thats 5 f ) .
Thank you for sharing your new experiences with this problem . And thanks to the folks that commented tips .
I did have a neighbour help me out with a heater a few weeks ago . Looks like when Walmart opens at 7am I will be at there to buy a heater . Where will go from there I don’t know ? Maybe replace the heat tape . I hope I don’t electrocute myself 😳
I putb8nsulation on our pipes but they still froze up. I ended up running the water lines through the heater vent. Never froze again. Hope you see this. Enjoy watching all your videos. 👍
Thank you for this! Going to give it a try now. Our 35,000 BTU Mr. Heater isn’t working due to the high winds but this looks like it will do the trick, thanks again for the video!
I use a propane space heater keeping it away form anything that will melt or catch fire. It usually takes about an hour and every thing under the house is defrosted. Our house is about two foot off the ground everywhere. Our house is 900 sq ft.
Make sure your crawl space is well covered and insulate all the pipes with pool noodles .. a must!! And leave your faucets on just a bit where you can see drops coming out that will help your pipes from freezing.. cover any crack or openings in your crawl space .
It would be a big job but worth it to put a layer of insulation all the way around the crawl space. Warmer in the winter cooler in the summer. Also place bails of straw as a wind break along the exterior. Then use it for the chickens and the garden once winter breaks..truly do enjoy your videos..😍
thank you Deedrah for the info!
It's not the prettiest thing to look at but the straw is a great thing to surround your house with in the winter. Then use it for mulch in the garden.
Gypsy Clipper Garden? lol
@@gypsyclipper5277 Make sure and count the mice when you remove the wet straw. You will find 100s of mice. Thats why they no longer recommend it. Not to mention all the critters that like to go under there to stay warm of which some die and stink and need to be removed.
My sister in Utah leaves the facet to trickle so it keeps flowing slowly. Like the heat tape and insulation tip. Thanks for the video. Never know where life will take you.
Make sure to also insulate the crawl space and fix any holes around the crawl space...drafts help pipes freeze even quicker.
Heat tape works well, you could try wrapping those pipes with pipe insulation, or one other thing we do to keep the well house warm is keep a space heater plugged in and set to the lowest temp. That way it only comes on when it gets near freeizing.
Awesome! Thanks for the info Brian.
Heat tape turned on when temps are below 32f mine is controlled by the GFCI in my master bath (warm and convenient), below 15f I let the water trickle as well. 2 winters ago, we were single digits and below 0 for 2+ months straight and no frozen pipes. A downrod along the supply coming out of the ground is essential also.
I live in NY state and it's really cold now. Zero with -16 wind chills. My daughter lives in a trailer, and the trailers up here have some type of electrical tape that keeps the pipes warm all winter, and prevents freezing. It will run up your electric bill, but you'll have water. I can call her later to find out exactly what it is. Or, if you have mobile home supply/repair places near by, they could probably help. I love your videos!
Awesome! thanks Jan We appreciate the info! thanks!
With this terrible recent Winter hell that started yesterday. it was - 12 last night, add Wind chill , it was - 25. I have PEX pipes and in a newer mobile home ( 2006 ) all the pipes had the " noodle" over them, I also left all the cabinets open under the sinks but no drips for the faucets. The skirting is solid but just aluminum. Needless to say I woke up this morning and no water anywhere was running, even the toilet fill up. I went to lowes and got one of those propane bullet heaters they use in garages ( on sale for 99 bucks !) LAST ONE THEY HAD LOL, smaller 60,000 BTU version. Stole my propane tank from my BBQ and hooked it up to the heater. Had running water back to normal in the trailer within 45 minutes ! I ran it for an additional hour after then unhooked it and replaced with a small forced air 1500 watt smaller vortex electric heater to keep it warmer without the propane. Hopefully no problems tonite as temps still have not warmed above zero. Might let those faucets drip tonite also.
Our pipes froze a couple times in a bathroom near one part of our attic. A friend suggested that we go to Lowe's or Home Depot and get special insulation that wraps around pipes. They make the insulation wraps that are electrical too that heat up when the air gets below a certain temp. Since we wrapped the pipes (with just the regular wraps) and added wall insulation around the pipes, we haven't had an issue yet. Good luck. The wraps really do work.

Nice! First time hearing about this heat tape. thanks for the links and we appreciate the info! Have a good day Terri!
Tried this after seeing your video and boom! After 30 minutes the pipes thawed out and my water started running again. Thanks.
My wife is going to get a space heater right now. Any tips
Make sure there are no open holes air vents, turn all valves open and let the water run slowly, the place a small space heater under the camper or mobile home preferably one with a thermostat , or keep some water jugs filled up, go under the crawl space and just turn off the main water valve to the house and then open up the faucet in the house to drain out.
When thawing your pipes its best to leave your faucets open so pressure can be released. Years ago I was using a heat gun to thaw a copper pipe and it burst! Goodluck and good idea on the space heater, just unplug it when your done lol
Its 9 degrees where I'm at currently and this really worked !!!!! Thank you so much !!!!! Your the MAN !!!!!!!
How many watts was your space heater? Mine is a small 250
Yep. When Tim and I were first married and lived in the little singlewide, our pipes froze up once. He got under the trailer with a hair dryer 😂. We learned to leave a trickle of water running in the faucets at night.
yes, thanks guys! stay warm!
O. Smallwood has the right idea, some hay bales around the skirting of the house go along way to keep the heat in. We have a problem with a hydrant in our barn that won't drain so I have heat tape on it and insulation around that and it works fine but I plan to replace it when the ground thaws out so I don't have to rely on that in the future.
hay bales! good idea. thanks Steve!
I got sick of my frozen pipes, so I built a student walls for my underneath and foam insulation between the studs.then windward on the outside, then another inch of Styrofoam glued and nailed on the outside of that , then covered with below grade plywood witch goes at least 12 inches be.ow ground. The aftermath...... my mobile home is cheaper to heat and cool, plus no moor freeze ups. By Mi,MI, from South Dakota.
I live in Kansas and it get really cold here in the winter. I've had to deal with frozen pipes every winter. My pipes are wrapped in heat tape, but, apparently heat tape does go all the way up to the bathrooms on either end of the mobile home. Last year I paid someone $500 to fix a broken pipe and wrap the pipes on either end to keep them from freezing.....they still froze. I was thinking of putting one of those oil heaters on either end of the house, under where the bathrooms are and running the plug up through the floor so I can just plug them in on the really cold nights. I know I would have to stabilize the heaters so they won't tip over and I'd have to put them up off the ground to keep them from being in water just in case some gets under there (which is not likely). I was worried about the safety of it.
Live down close to Atlanta in rural area. We have a well in a well house made of cement block. It’s a good ways from the house and we use an extension cord to power a “milk house” type cheap metal space heater in high. We set it near the pump and points. So far, it keeps the well pump from freezing up down to 20 degrees. I have used a space heater under the house just inside the door to the crawl space but do not like to do that due to fire hazard. I usually get up every hour during the night to check in it. Bummer, but beats having to call a plumber. Next year I’m going to have all the plumbing redone and will have a guy wrap the pipes. Like a lot of people here said... it’s the freezing winds that get ya. Cover holes to crawl space with that pink thick insulation and use gorilla tape to keep the foam board insulation in place... you can cut that pink foam board with a utility knife. Block all wind from getting to your well pump or pipes.
Heard about heat tape for outdoor hoses and spigots. Plug it in, it gets warm, and you wrap it around things to keep them warm. Maybe you could turn that underthehouse door into a passive solar heater with some mirrors and insulate the pipes a ton... because the heat tape reauires electricity. Anyhoo, it is -1 up here in NY so you're not alone! Cheers!
Glad we are not the only ones who are COLD! thanks Plant Bee and i hope you have a good day!
Two years with pipes frozen in a row is a sign that things need to change. Maybe more insulation...maybe keeping the water running all night, maybe putting a fire safe heater down there any time the temperatures go below a certain temp.
Yes, I agree. we need to figure out something for these pipes! thanks Dolly!
Heat tape. y iu can get it at any home improvement store/hardware store. It plugs in to any standard electric outlet. and no more frozen pipes. We DO this i n Northern New England...
thanks Eric!
yes! torch would not unfreeze a hot line, got -9 the other night in ne ohio, heat tape did in 3 hours, took 15 mins to set it up... 24 ft. was under $40
i wonder what a 12 ft section of it would do for a parked dum cold diesel now... hmmmm
Heat tape is the best thing to do, but when mine got old and stopped working, I had to do an emergency fix, which has served me well for years now: brooder lamps. Also, I know someone who used a heating pad for sore muscles, duct taped to the most vulnerable place, which is where the main connection is.
It worked, I placed not only my son's lil space heater" I also placed two heat lamps under the house in a crawl space. 7 hrs later, WE GOT WATER!!!!!!!VERY THANKFUL FROM THE LORD ABOVE
Jason ,we have been hammered with minus 22 and non stop snow...power outages and whiteout conditions...I always called Yarmouth the Florida of Canada,,,I am taking that back....lol...
I have for many years during the coldest sub - freezing weather hung a 150 watt heating bulb directly over my well pump and let it burn 24/7. If water is not needed for animals etc. I do not worry about freezing pipes that are exposed outside (away from my mobile home) as long as they are allowed to freeze from the top down, something I learned from my plumber cousins in my community. (Insulation in and of itself has no heating qualities whatsoever) Loved your beautiful clear music. . .who gets the credit?? Thanks for posting and hope ya"ll get thawed out and warmed up! Blessings! Phil ~ South Carolina
thanks Phil!
We run a small but steady stream (not just a drip) of hot AND cold water at pretty much from sunset to sunrise. We also leave the kitchen and bathroom cabinets open so the heat from the house can keep the pipe warm. So far so good. We are in AL so we are also not used to this cold!
thanks for the info!
We moved to Missouri in July of 2022 and this is new to us being in -7 ° and our pipes are frozen no water in the house, I had the faucet running but force of habit I turned it off, we are from Pismo Beach California so it 60- 75° weather there in the winter, so I need to get the water back on, I guess I'll go get a heater for the crawl space
I realize that this has nothing to do with frozen pipes... but, I received my order and love all my goodies! Thank you so much!
Awesome! thank you Kelly! glad you like the goodies!! We appreciate it.
I fully understand, I have lived in north carolina and I'm from L.A Calif. and have lived here I. Colorado. Put heat tape on your pipes it really helps.
Awesome! a fellow L.A.'er! thanks LaVerne!
Go to your local hardware store and buy heat tape you wrap it around your water pipes and it's an insulator that keeps your pipes from freezing we do this in Wisconsin where it gets to negative degree weather yearly
Install a shut off and drain. It is a life saver. bath or shower early do all you need to do. Then in evening when Temps are falling go out drain water out of moble home and when need it the next day turn water back on to the home remember to keep water dripping in day time .
I live in Virginia and my pipes froze last year. I put a space heater in the unheated laundry room and this caused the pipes to thaw, but it also caused a flood. The water was just pouring out from the broken pipe and the space heater was near the floor! Not a good combination!
Get a safe space heater and set it up down underneath your house and away from anything that can burn and run an extension cord like you did here and just leave it under there. When the pipes freeze flip on the power. I believe someone below me mentioned something like that.
Just did it for the first time, thanks for the video!
We run the water all day and leave the doors open under the sink ( the pipes in kitchen are in a bump out) our house was build in 1921. We also have light bulbs that run along them I'm the basement. Growing up in SC we would only have to run a trickle of water. People are also using heat tape, but..... Idk anything about that. Never been below zero till moving to Ohio :/.
oh man, light bulbs! amazing! Sounds like a fun old house. thanks Brie!
Keep cabinets open where water pipes are at.
We have open shelving and no cabinets. Check! thanks Lisa.
Leave the spigot dripping and the cabinet doors open. Seal up all holes under the house. Don't forget to check after it warms up next week and check for busted pipes.
Pipe insulation will help some, leave cabinet doors open and water slightly running (my sister does this) Hot water freezes first.
It really has been crazy cold. my husband's parents lived in our house for 30 years before we moved in, we've been here 3... for the first time ever we had just the hot water freeze upstairs LOL and we had a fire going for like two and a half weeks in the basement craziness! With so many below zero days it's hard to not have frozen water.
sheesh! I guess just about everyone is feeling this cold. thanks tammy!
We had heat tape under our cabin. And before it gets to freezing we had an electric light on down there during winter and it was supposed to generate enough heat to prevent freezing.
thanks Pat!
Time to move to Florida. I say that every winter. LOL.
We have an electric heating cable with termostat aroun the piping, and when temperature goes down, about 3celsius degree, it start to heat a little bit. And insulation of pipings tooo. Good luck ;)
thank you Petra! We appreciate the info. I have some insulation to do.
okay so I kept the water running last night but only the cold but the hot is frozen so do I put the space heater underneath outside where the hot water heater goes down into the pipe set it right there or what can you answer me as soon as possible please
heat tape on the pipes and boxed in the pipes and pressure tank using the pink foam insulation . also make sure your homes tarp belly has no openings
I enclose a small area of my water pipes and heat it with a light bulb or 2. The old style bulbs are great for creating heat that nobody seems to care about nowadays..
I'm sure it's been figured out by now, it's been 4 years. But some insulated skirting would definitely help.
Wrap heat tape around your exposed pipes in the crawlspace. Start by digging around the pipe where it comes from the well down about 18" to 2 feet and start wrapping the heat tape, then wrap insulation around all of that and put the dirt back. Keep the heat tape plugged in when you start having colder weather in the Fall until Spring.
thanks for the info!
Bought my mobile home this year in southern Louisiana. We are having a record breaking hard freeze right now. I have left. All my sink faucets trickling and my pipes froze and nothing works now. I will see if I can get a hold of a space heater and extension cord to try this out. I am worried since they say not to plug a space heater in an extension cord.
Heat tape. Run a receptacle to where your water line comes out of the well and wrap heat tape around it and any other exposed lines. There is pipe insulation that works too.
thanks Cyndi!
The space heater trick is best thing for that frozen pipe. Doing your homework on which pipe if it was a pipe that was frozen... could have been a supply valve that may have frozen... knowing what you have is your best line of defense then you can take measures in the summer to insulate whatever it is that's prone to freezing.. and you won't have to scramble to thaw it out! Have a great 2019.
Looks like next week will be warmer. Hang in there! :)
Forecast in the 40's close to 50 next week. here in E TN YEA !
yaaay!!
I have a space heater under the house too. I just flip a switch whenever they freeze. Heat take is only good for a year or so and you have to keep replacing them.
Good suggestions below. You could also wire in a light fixture under the house and install a 50 watt incandescent light bulb. Install a light switch for that fixture in a handy location, maybe the kitchen. When forecast calls for freezing temps, just flip on the light switch. Plug any air gaps in the skirting around your house.
thanks for the info Brian!
That's how our house is set up. Light bulbs run along the water lines. I'm from the south living in the north and was like wth. Lol.
Rap the pipes that are freezing with electrical warming tape buy pipe insulation and then regular insulation around that and cover or seal exposed area with more thinner and ply able insulation
Jason, glad you have water and don't throw away your frozen eggs. See if you can watch the off grid with Doug and Stacey video, she said you can use them just clean them or put them in freezer till you need them. I hear you'll have a break in the weather soon, stay warm. ;)
thanks! C'mon sun!
yes I was going to say to wrap them in heat tape.. we live up in PA .. by the PA / NY border.. that is was we do .. it will work..
yes, heat tape seems to be a must! thanks brenda!
Y'all need to wrap your pipes. They sell insulated tape/wrap for pipes!! Have a blessed day and stay warm.
thanks guys! Yes, heat tape seems to be what everyone is suggesting. first time hearing about it!
I have cold water but no hot water help i was going to go buy this things snd try it out but idk its -20 with windchill its like -35
First time experiencing frozen pipes :’(
I’ll give this a try.
I’m in Texas under here with a hair dryer trying to get water again. Best of luck to you!
I woke to frozen pipes today for the first time today and my place was built last year...
Didn’t work
Hi.... Jason, thank you for sharing your video homestead 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 🎥👍👍👍
Insulate the under skirting better including the door. Wire up a few lights and put in regular incandescent bulbs. Turn them on on cold nights or put them on a timer. Let your sinks dribble at night to keep the water flowing.
thanks John!
You guys deal with problems and keep cool about it. I admire that. Have you heard of the heated wraps?
yes, we use those now! thanks!
Looks like you got a lot of heat tape suggestions plus insulation. We get warmer temps but a lot of snow. All the best buddy.
Man, we are from SoCal! Apparently I am the only one who never heard of heat tape! haha thanks man!
West coast here, not much help with pipes. We got down to 12 here. Pipes still good!
nice! thanks!
We cover the pipes with pool noodles than tape over that has worked so far im from Ca also in Bowie Tx now
Hello just came across your channel as I was searching how to unfreeze frozen pipes
I live in SW Oklahoma in a double wide & this is the first time I'm 5 years that this happened
I left all my faucets running more than a stream but currently have no hot water
I am seeing everyone talk about the insulation, Do you just wrap it onto the pipes or what
My skirting is rock & I feel like that helped in the past but right now we are having temps in single digits & possibly in the negative for next week
Please may someone give me some help as to what I need to do
Cheapest temporary fix is to run your water at a higher rate of flow. Your well water is probably in the 55°range , therfore there is not much difference to chill it down to 32° unless you increase your flow rate. This is risky due to this year's record breaking Temps. Also your vinyl underpinning has ventilation built into it. Therefore allowing the colder temperature to freeze /access your pipes. If you insulate the pvc pipes with a standard foam insulation wrap this will help tremendously. But I would still let the water run during Hard freezing temperatures your experiencing this year as the repairs to frozen pipes is much more expensive than the cost of your well running more than normal condition. Since you own your home you definitely want to insulate your pipes. It a DIY job with your skills ❄🌞💧
thanks Erik! Yes, we need to run our water with more flow. thanks for the info Erik!
I listened to all of your podcasts and one of the more recent ones you mentioned maybe moving. You should come to Michigan where you won't to used to the warmth and the cold winter won't seem so bad. LOL. You may want to wait till we can get rid of our governor though.
Heat tape is fine, wrap tape with insulation, then more bats of insulation. When the heT tape fails, and some day it will the insulation has it.
But if it gets wet, then your screwed as it will freeze to a soild block.
Everything works until it doesn't. Think a head and plan for different scenarios.
Dripping does not work. You have to have a small, steady stream.
Wow I would never put a space heater down there, he has too much dust and debris that could catch fire. I hope he has good smoke alarms (a few of them) and a couple of fire extinguishers!
Bubble foil insulation on the inside of the skirting will help. Heat tape is great but can be a fire hazard.
Bubble insulation. I'll look into that. thanks for the info Holly, we appreciate it!
Heat lamp, incandescent bulb, clear away any spider webs and mount to something sturdy. Just turn it on for a few hours on those super cold nights.
thank you for sharing.......we leave water running in evening..... but then we live in Texas
Yes, running water all night is what we have been doing. thanks Jody!
Have you wrapped your pipes under the house? We have all our pipes under the house wrapped with a black foam that fits around the pipe, it comes in long sections that can be taped on the pipes. Hope it helps, and make sure you try to keep all the drafts from getting in.
All of our pipes are currently frozen (Massachusetts) in our mobile home and I’m at a loss. We turned up the heat and it isn’t remedying the problem. I am going to buy a space heater.
heat tape and cover it with foam insulation around the pipes. checkout u-tube , there are plenty of videos on the subject.
pipes very easy to install and safer
Living in Northern New England all my years I have had many experiences with frozen plumbing!! From the video I could see a lot of daylight gaps in your crawl space.....not good! Any drafts/leaky skirting is going to give you freeze problems!! I don't think the frost depth in your area is enough to freeze a well line, but your bladder tank and H2O piping very susceptible to freezing! Heat tracing your water lines and well tank is one way of solving the problem, the heatrace needs to be on continuously for at least (5) months the wires get only slightly warm....thus they have to be left energized ALL the season, turning them on after the pipes are frozen is too late! When a freeze is forecasted put that little space heater in the crawl space in the late afternoon and leave it on all night or as long as the sub freezing temps last.
The best thing you could do is insulate (do not use fiberglass) the crawl space under your house, plug all the daylight openings to the outside, then insulate ALL exposed water lines in the crawl space.....cover ever spot of the piping, no gaps or exposed spaces. Then if your well tank is in the crawl space, insulate it also! On any of your water system components, again, DO NOT use fiberglass insulation!!! Use a thermacell or rubbertex any elastomeric foam tube sized to your water lines and comes in sheets for insulating tanks, this insulation can be purchased at any box store or plumbing supply outlet. These are the best and efficient ways to prevent freezing plumbing, that doesn't use electricity. Thanks for listening and I Pray this Helps
Awesome Dennis! You sound like the guy to talk to!:) I have some insulating to do. thanks Dennis we appreciate your knowledge!
Can heat lamp be used?
Should you turn off the main water?
I have a water heater circulating pump on my water heater and this keeps the pipes from freezing.
We keep all faucets running at night especially. Just a little stream. Running water will not freeze. However the water bill will be higher, as well as the heating bill, and the electric bill. Ahhhhh! The fringe benefits of an artic southern freeze! LOL! I don't remember it being this cold for this long except when I was in elementary school in the 60's. BRRRRRRR! Hurry! Hurry! Hurry! Come On Spring! I'm surely ready for some SUNSHINE!
Thanks Sonya! Stay warm!
Remember to cut the power to your well if it freezes so it doesn't burn your pump up. I am in Asheville and I have been running a heavy drip to all faucets while the temp is below 20 especially and leaving the cabinet doors open all the time. So far so good but this is an extraordinary year for us to be this cold for this long.
thanks Cynthia!
Do you have your pipes wrapped in pipe insulation if not that helps God bless have a great weekend I also live in North Carolina and I have never seen it this cold and I have lived here all my life and I'm a grandmother try not to get too much of my age away 😊
Yeah, it's hard for us to know what is common here. Being that this is our only second winter here. Nice to here that we are not the only ones who are COLD! haha! thanks!
So question, my hot water won’t run but my cold water does, does that mean my pipes are frozen?
ooh! good question! I'm new to all this frozen/cold temps. I havent had that experience before. thanks and good luck!
They sell heat lines that plug in and you wrap em around the pipe
Wonder what made you move from SoCal to east?
