Just got this exact watch for Christmas today. It is absolutely stunning! As someone who has been wearing a f91 w pretty much this whole year this is such an improvement!
im late but congrats. like you ive been wearing the F91w for ages and ive got the blue marlin one coming just waiting for it to be delivered, i cant wait.
Really well done review. Sometimes manufacturers get everything right. Even if by accident. The Casio Duro is an example of that, providing an exceptionally good watch at an exceptionally good price. But this might have been by accident, because they recently "improved" the Duro by releasing a new version that gets everything wrong. People asked for a "smaller than 44mm" Duro, so Casio created a mini version of the watch at 36mm, which is just too small unless they intend to market it as a ladies version. And they didn't stop there. They also removed the screw down crown, the screw down back, and reduced the water resistance from 200m to 50mm. They even raised the price and removed the fish we all loved so much! If you own an original Duro, then hang onto it. It will become a collectors item, and you will be able to sell it for twice what you paid for it. If you bought the new version, then I hope you are happy with a much smaller, less featured, and more expensive version of the classic model.
I'm a proud owner of a couple of Casio Marlin aka Casio Duro (duro meaning "hard" or "rugged" in Spanish): the most common black, and the so-called Bluro. I love them both. If they only were slightly smaller I'd wear nothing else, as they look amazing with a variety of .22mm straps or dedicated (signed with a marlin fish) aftermarket bracelets. They are also a great blank canvas for modding: ceramic or yacht master bezels, hands swapping, or hydro-mod for ultimate waterproof performance. It's a true classic.
Outstanding review. I have two, All blue coming soon and after seeing your Batman up close, why not. I use them for work, well the pepsi I do. It goes on a Nato and in the downtime it’s on an Engineer bracelet, looking EPIC. The All Black sits permanently on an oyster. So many different folk and watch fans have mistaken them for a Rolex it’s shocking. At 44mm it’s a mans watch and it is proper BEAST LEVEL. Can REALLY take a smack. The word Duro hails from Latin meaning HARD and is it ever. I’ve taken walls down wearing that bad boy, not a scratch. It’s absolute NAILS. Sold my Rolly and my ‘O’… spent FA on these, QUIDS IN.
I have the MDV 107 version without the Marlin insignia but, basically the same watch and I love it. I also own a Seamaster (along with many other watches) but, my Casio probably gets more wrist time than any of my other divers. I have a 7.5 inch wrist and it fits me perfectly and the comfort for such a low price is fantastic. The lume isn't great but, for the price you can't have everything.
I have the whole MDV-106 set of colored bezels and I love them all. I regularly swap straps between rubber, NATO (tons of different colors), and SS bracelet on all of them and they look superb and wear very well. And, best of all, they were all just under $50 each!
Once I saw the batman it has to be my second Duro. To me the Duro is the difference between inexpensive and cheap. I originally bought my first Duro thinking it would be my beater watch. But both now live in my watch box along with my others as the beautiful quality pieces they are.
I bought the blue dial, blue bezel model to protect my other watches while at work. I've never been so upset to dink a watch even though it cost me only £60. I even considered buying a replacement but it served the purpose I bought it for. A very likeable watch.
Currently have the Black with original rubber strap i have a black stainless bracelet to interchange, a Starbucks with green rubber strap, in shipment, a Pepsi which will have a dark red rubber strap, and a Batman which is having a Marlin embossed stainless bracelet. Plans for Blue (blue rubber strap) and Black/Gold (stainless/gold bracelet). Would love to find a black dial blue bezel version and the rarer white dial, if i can ever afford one. 😢 think for the money they're brilliant bits of kit.
Casio should re-issue the 1010 with an added sapphire crystal, and a cyclops. They were otherwise perfect at 40mm, good lume etc. I keep hoping! Great watch!
I have this exact watch, and I love it. Mine's modified with double-dome sapphire crystal (AR coated), and 12 hour Batman bezel insert replacing the diver type. $50... get one!
The worst thing about the Casio Duro is the price is so low you can't buy just one. In the US they are $50, I have the Pepsi, the Batman, the Kermit, and the black and gold. They are addicting!!! LOL
@@PapriceP But the market is 99% large watches so people rarely even have the choice to buy a more normal size. Even at the luxury level, it's like Rolex+Tudor have convinced other brands to not release competing thin 40mm divers. For example, even the 39.5mm Planet Oceans are ruined by their thickness.
Casio seems to do this a lot. They go for volume, and make a lot of money by selling a lot of units, rather than charging as much as they can get for a watch and settling on lower volumes. Even the most expensive G-Shock watches are bargains for what they are. Absolutely no one else offers as much value for money as Casio does.
I have all 6 of the different colorways. I have them on stainless steel bracelets. The gold one is on a black leather crocodile strap for now, but I ordered a two-tone bracelet for it recently and am waiting on it to arrive. I wish the green bezel watch had either a green tip second hand or an all chrome one like the blue dial watch though.
I know this sounds pedantic, but it's not a Duro and the fish isn't a marlin it's a sailfish. Obviously "Casio Duro Sailfish" wouldn't have quite the same cache.. Btw, I love these. I own all six colourways of the 106 and 107.
I have 4 off them, swapped out the straps and had them relumed. @ £90-£100 per watch, including the purchase off the watch. In truth I should have only bought a couple, they were lockdown buys😂 however with the new straps and proper lume now, I'll keep them, no regrets
I've been pondering one of these for quite a while Richard I just not got around to pulling the trigger as I'm just not sure how much wrist time it'll get. Yes I know it's not that expensive but there we are. Oddly I have my sub on my wrist today but I confess it is not worn every day but does get plenty of wrist time. My most worn watch over the last month is my old faithful F-91W. Next month who knows... maybe I might just get that Duro in a different colourway. Thanks for sharing.
I agree with you and thought the same, then I took the plunge after watching lots of reviews from prominent watch guys on social media. I find myself going to them more and more and more. I started with the Pepsi, put it on a Barton quick release strap. Looks and wears awesome. So I then bought a black one and put it on an oyster style bracelet…guess what, it looks and wears awesome. Bought my son a black one and put it on a silicone strap… I think you get the picture. This is a great and recent review and believe me I’ve watched them all. I love watches and I absolutely concur with all in this vid but just listen to his words from 4:00. Go buy one, or two, or three 😊
The only thing I don’t like about this watch is that the lume is quite dim, at least on mine. But it’s a very affordable watch so that’s not a dealbreaker for me.
I've owned mine 10+ years. It was my daily work watch, despite humble specs it looks pretty good considering. You could say; it took a licking and keeps on ticking... Oooops. 😅
Not quite perfect. The date complication is right on the verge of illegibility for those with old eyes due to the thin typeface used. I’ve had OK results with a cyclops glued onto the stock crystal.
Forget the Duro, it's a great watch but you can get a sub for £60 that has NH35 automatic movement, Sapphire crystal, solid link bracelet, milled clasp, ceramic bezel & amazing lume. The Steeldive SD1953.
True, but the NH35 isn't that great a movement, as its extremely innacurate compared to the movement in the Casio duro. The duro is definitely the better option.
@@DanRC69 so... you're saying you'd rather have a slightly more accurate quartz movement with a cheap rubber strap, acrylic crystal & poor dial spacing than a mechanical movement with sapphire crystal, solid link bracelet, solid end links, ceramic bezel and amazing lume for the same price??? Sorry but I have to say advertising the watch with a man who is responsible for insidious behaviours and ideas regarding insect farming isn't actually doing this nice watch any justice;).
Astounding value like all Casio watches. I seriously love this brand so much.
I got the Pepsi version and I replaced it with a jubilee style bracelet. Now the watch is a stunner!

Get those tempered glass screen protectors for it. A 3 pack is around $12.
Same here the screen protectors saves you replacing the crystal. You can usually buff out the scratches with some polywatch or similar.
