The science/biology behind his words is that there are two types of muscle fibers, Fast twitch and slow twitch, fast twitch generate stronger and more rapid contractions than the slow twitch, but they get tired quickly because they use anaerobic respiration which releases lactic acid. These fast twitch muscles are generally more common in the upper body, and they’re used for short but heavy exercises, like lifting a heavy dumbbell for example. Slow twitch on the other hand contract slower and weaker but they can work for way longer and take much longer to fail because they use aerobic respiration, which produces more energy and uses more oxygen than the anaerobic. This makes slow twitch better for longer exercises like walking or jogging if ure on the treadmill, or generally any exercise where you’re doing lots of repetitions. Slow twitch muscle fibers are found more in the lower body..

There has been recent evidence to support within the same types of muscle fibers, fast/intermediate/slow that certain muscle groups are more responsive to different levels of volume and frequency. Especially larger muscle groups legs back etc. While smaller groups can't take as much systematic fatigue. Calves and forearms also seem to an exception here. But really WTF knows 100 different studies have slightly different result.

One thing about your body.......and that is, it will never hurt when you are working it out. Even when you're doing whatever intense choice workout, as that is its food. No different than when one eats to fuel their body. I never understood why people would put themselves through pain with the belief that they're benefitting in the long run. Being youthful, structured and well defined with healthy muscles, really just require discipline. As your body is pretty much developing as you age. Most folk don't see their errors or hype that they've subscribed to, until they're older and can't change what they've already done for decades. You really have to know your body and *fully understand what it is capable of and needs. In return, responsibly using the tools that you've been given to care for it.

    Taekwondo practicioner here.
It is true that by decreasing the weight and increasing repitition will improve endurance (Same as just by doing bodyweight). The main goal of that is to not build muscles but rather be more functional to not be tired easily fast and do difficult tasks continuosly for a long record of time.
For real life application; if you train with this method consistently, you'd be able to climb the stairs 5 stories on a normal speed walk without getting tired. Compared to your before if you tire out after climbing just 2 stories on the same speed walk

      @fbilovesyou8285 3 месяца назад +4

@@adamwarlock5286 Oh It doesn't 😅. I just said I was, because it makes more sense for me to know these things since I studied and put these principles into my taekwondo practice.
To mention; at the end of my workout, I pump out as many normal speed squats as I can without rest, I don't count them but until I cry and my legs give out. It works out my endurance that way, allowing me to push time longer from physical stress.
If I were to count my repetition, last time I did was 43 and my legs literally felt like a burning sting all over. The reason why that's the only amount of rep I can push is because I already finished speed, plyometrics, strength and muscle building training for legs beforehand 😅 then endurance training is my last workout.

To add to this, this works for any part of the body, its just most people do workouts in ways for the arms so differently and focus on the big muscle groups instead of strengthening muscles that are not as noticeable (big arms focus over functional strength all around leads to imbalance of muscles within the arm itself, which is why people get tendon problems so much because they got weak tendons under extra stress due to larger muscles putting to much strain on them because the smaller muscles that connect to a lot of the tendons and connective tissue are weaker, think tug of rope.)
Don’t overtrain it but doing high reps on arms is very doable (50lb curls per arm vs 70 at increased reps of 20-30 per arm.)

I would work in the 3-5 rep range until I got to a sticking point where I couldn't progress any further at a rate of 5 lb every week and then I would drop the weight and do super high repetitions for a few weeks and then come back and I'd be able to break through my former plateaus...something akin to 9 weeks of linear progression with sets of 3×5 adding 5 lbs. each workout or so, followed by 4 weeks of high reps at a 10-20% weight reduction, increasing reps each week from 4×20 to 3×30 to 2×40 to 1×50, them rinse & repeat, it works wonders and is easier on your back, knees & hips.

It’s common sense really. You think low reps low volume will do anything to a muscle group that was designed for you to constantly use ALL DAY LONG? (You can literally stand up all day and work, construction workers do it, tradesmen do it, etc) so just by knowing that, you must do high volume to challenge the muscle to improve. The upper body muscles are used much less which is why 6-8 reps higher weight and a few sets will challenge those muscle groups.

Now I only train legs once a week, 3-4 sets of zercher squats and 3-4 sets of Romanians and that’s enough to keep them big😂 so, a cheat code to bulky legs is to get morbidly obese, live like that for at least 5-6 years and then lose weight 😂😂😂

But if I use less weight and do a longer workout or more reps and sets than I feel way more sore the next day. I think a mix of both is the way to go though. 100 reps with only 10% less weight with 1 set? Surely impossible

That's why he said to work up to it until you're doing 50 each leg or 100 total on both legs. Think, alternate, breathe, take short, and I do mean short breaks. Don't hurt yourself but he's simply using big numbers to get his point across that you need a LOT of repetitions

He's right. I've worked up to 60 reps with a 70lb kettlebell absolutely none stop and the increases in size, endurance and cardio has just been incredible.

50 is to much, the muscle fibers you are after can't go that long. 15-20 is perfect

Yes, he said legs respond better at 12-15 reps while upper body 6-10 reps

I think Tom Platz inadvertently took this advice because he's known for his monster legs and hi reps.

If you do barbell squat to failure 10 reps. Vs lets say bench press to failure 10 reps. You can clearly feel the difference.
Your chest might be burning and full of blood pumping after thos 10 reps to failure.
But your legs after 10 reps of failure? They don't feel very pumped. After i walk down the stairs after 10 reps to failure (2 sets) with a barbell squat, i can still walk down the stairs.
If i do 20 reps to failure with barbell squat? Bro i have to focus to not fail because my legs feel so weak. 20 reps just FEELS like it damages your legs a lot more then 10 reps. With 10 reps it just feels like its to heavy and you body already had to stop early because there is just a shitload of weight on your back. Doing 20 reps to failure is harder also because you suffer longer lol.
