OH My !!! This is one of the BEST interpretations I have ever seen. Beautifully enacted by musicians and 'Crankie' creator....love the nod to quilts. I'll be forever grateful to be a Southern Appalachian. Our culture is rich, diverse and proud. Thank you JAMS for keeping it alive and well.
the first settlers were Puritans and discouraged all forms of fun including singing and dancing so it was later that old time got going , check out the dancing master tradition in England where the big usually country house would employ an itinerant guy with a fiddle to come and teach the latest dances to the young people of the house of course the servants listened in and learnt a rough version of the dance too and these became country dances
