Britt, you just found the key to what Angelina does to us, she tells a story & makes you listen to the lyrics for the first time, even if you've heard the song many times over the years. I wish I had a dollar for every time I've heard a reactor say, or read a fan comment like, "I've heard this song many times, but that was the 1st time I understood what it was about." I could buy a nice boat with the money.

She does this with almost every cover, making her versions more emotional.
Look at the Elvis cover 'Suspicious Minds',. I know I heard that back in the day and all throughout the years but I never really got the emotion and meaning.

Great reaction: so often she "opens up lyrics" as you say, so you hear them differently and have an enhanced understanding. Another of Angelina's great tribute songs... gentle, sad and subdued because it is in reverence for the great Aretha... she wears black and the video fades to black as usual in her tributes...

Carol King wrote a beautiful song. Her recording of it is very good as well. Aretha commanded the song with her shear power and took us all to church with her rendition. Angelina did this tribute song for Aretha and this performance lifted it all the way to Heaven!

What other singer at that age (but is a constant aspect in her) has such sensibility and musical intelligence to reinterpret these old songs and always create different versions of the songs she chooses? It's great to feel the passion and wonderful personality that she fills her interpretations. This is a really sweet and overwhelming tribute of respect and without great belts, for a singer that Angelina admired a lot! Her deep understanding of the lyrics of the songs she loves is the key that allows us all to hear them for the first time, every time.💛🧡❤

As always with Aretha, it was the voice, it's POWER, that held us captive. Angelina's focus comes FROM the emotional connection she makes to the lyrics. Changing the phrasing, levels of tonality and lyrical impact, results in this soft, thoughtfully sung tribute to the Queen of Soul, performed by the Queen of Revealing; stirring up "food for thought" from where we never stopped to understand. Spot on. Again her replacement of her wording, not only brought out the lyrics from a storytelling point of view but it changed the cadence of the songs..
There was a slight drop off of the tempo with the piano that for me, gave it that more of a jazzy feel.
Specially her change of Tonality on the bridge.. I still get goosebumps when she gets to the part ( you make me feel so alive). Now that’s when Angelina’s old school jazz/ Blues soul took over and the rasp came out.
We angels like to say Angelina doesn’t cover songs, she uncovers them.
I am going to go out on a limb here, but to be honest there isn't anyone thing the girl does it's the whole package she presents, every letter of every word seems to take on its own meaning when she sings :)

Obviously I can't know, but since I first heard this I've wondered if Angelina instinctively brought the song back almost to the way it was written without ever hearing the original.
I am sure she had heard the original... she brought it back because it was a tribute to Aretha Franklin who had died not long before

Great reaction -Angelina, as she often does, draws us in to the story. Here Angelina is feeling the loss of one of her inspirational singers. Aretha passed away on 16th August 2018, this tribute was posted on RUclips just three days later. Yes, Angelina, in this video, looked to be rapidly transitioning into womanhood, but of course, a natural 12 year old woman...
I come everyday now to find your Angelina reaction and I'm really appreciating your increase in production quality.. The sound levels are balanced, you're using a headset so you hear the songs full potential. I really like how you have maximized the size of the video you're reaction to as well, making it easier to see, especially watching on a cell phone.
One suggestion? Leave everything the same except push the mic mostly off screen and centre yourself more to the left. We'd rather see more of you while still having Angelina's video max size. "More you & less microphone". Have a Happy Family Day (in Ontario Canada 🍁 it's a day off)
As others have mentioned, it has become quite common for people to exclaim after hearing Angelina's versionof a song, "that is the first time I really heard/understood the lyrics". It will be audio only, and it's amazing and different from the bid military band one she also. The one at Kongsberg, Angie gives it a more intimate feel with her small stage band. All the other A-List singers that I heard with tributes to Aretha, went in the
opposite direction of Angelina. They concentrated on showing power and a
loud style since that was what Aretha was known for. Angelina uses her low
register and 'breathy' ability, as well as mid sentence 'key' changes, to just
draw the listener in deeply. A truly thought out, proper tribute, for sure.

Thanks, Britt. Angelina seems to build her performances around the lyrics. We hear every word, and often times we have never really heard them before. She tells the story and, yes, she seems to sing to just one person, and to bring a softness where before there was angst or defiance or maybe bitterness. That is what makes her so human.

I wish Angelina would go back and revisit some of the songs she sang as a kid and hear the difference from then to now. Most folks would say that they wish they can hear Angelina sing longer than she does on each songs but actually most songs are lengthy do to it's chorus being repeated over and over till it reaches 3, 4, 5 min. mark. Angelina gets to the point of the song by just focusing on the main lyrics and 1 round of chorus and it sounds just as good if not better than a lengthy song.

For these "karaoke" performances, she invariably sits there with an unassuming smile on her face and usually a little wave "Hi" - and the the music begins: We can literally see how she goes to her own musical world when that happens and, magically, she manages to invite most of her audience to join her there! The reverse happens when the music stops: Angelina quietly becomes just a little girl again, usually with a shy little wave "Bye". I have always found these moments to be priceless.
Agree 100 percent what you say about hearing the lyrics for the first time, even though the song has been heard many times before. In decades of listening to music Angelina is the first person to open up the lyrics in a way I've never heard or understood them before. She has power that others simply do not possess.

She is so SHOCKINGLY good here. You can almost tell she prolly tried this a thousand different ways and settled on every little inflection. It's almost like a speaking voice telling a story.
