Great video and I’m so pleased that your 250th was such a stunner. Great seeing you and Sara on this journey and I am looking forward to where 2024 takes you. ✨
Thank you Kate, appreciate your support a great deal 😊
Pretty amazing that you captured 250 birds ON CAMERA for the year. I hit 230+ species this year and thought that was pretty great, but only got 180ish on camera. WHAT AN ACCOMPLISHMENT YOU GUYS COMPLETED! I'm excited for next year! Keep the videos coming!
Thanks, not every shot was award winning 😆 but it was a fun journey.
Thanks for the comment, bud 👍
I'm glad you saw that many interesting birds. I recently saw a limpkin here in south Alabama which is a visitor from Florida.
Thanks Nathan.
That Limpkin is a very cool sighting! 😎
I am sooo glad you mentioned your struggles with gulls, shorebirds, and raptors. I have the same problems!
Yep! Hoping to close those gaps a bit more this year and hopefully share that journey as we go 😊
01:40 I'm quite shure that isn't a male Anna's but a Costa's... The edges of the bib are too long, and it's also more purple than cerise. Plus that white stripe (from the neck) going all the way behind the ear and over the eye.
Yeah, looks like you're right. Thanks for the tip.
Anyway, good work with 250 birds not only seen but filmed/photographed as well! That's some stiff rules, for sure... Looking forward to next year 🙂
Apparently it's 251, with that Costa's added haha 😉
Thanks a lot, we will be back with a new challenge soon 😊
Merry Christmas 🎅
@@BritHikesOntario Oh, I hoped it would be an addition, but wasn't sure you didn't spot/photograph a *known* Costa's HB while in the desert (where they abide).
Thanks so much for sharing another wonderful video like always my friend, have an awesome Christmas and Happy New Year 🎄🎁🎅🤗
Thanks so much Miguel
Same to you, have a great Christmas and here's to some great birding in 2024! 🎅🐦
Great video, Stu! I’m aiming for 250 birds in 2024 but that includes our trip to Mexico in February! Merry Christmas to you & Sarah. 🎄
Thanks Tracy, appreciate it.
Hope you have a great trip to Mexico. Let us know how you get on there!
Merry Christmas 🎅
Thanks so much for all your videos which I really enjoy, and am impressed with how many species you see. Whats especially cool for me is that I also live in Toronto. I am just wondering, do you normally do your birding early in the morning? I definitely don't see nearly as many birds as you do, though I frequent many of the same places. I'm wondering if its cause I tend to go in the afternoons (am just not a morning person..)
Thank you Naomi, really appreciate it. We'll have more to come once we are into the new year.
I think that the more you practice, the better you get at spotting birds. Maybe you even saw us improve as the year of videos went on. But there's still people out there that seem to spot things I missed, so I think it's normal to feel that way.
As for mornings, it depends on what kind of birds. But yeah, generally, especially during migration, the morning will often yield better results. Especially with migratory song birds because they are just looking to refuel, eat and determine territory by singing once it is light enough. I find the best time is often shortly after the sun has started to hit the branches. But... I think this applies less to resident species and waterfowl.
My guess for next year is to attend 10 birding festivals
Actually, 25 birding festival days. For example, a 3 day festival would count as 3 days towards the 25. BTW challenge or not, you should attend some next year. We went to the Huron Fringe Birding Festival and it was a lot of fun
Definitely like bird festivals and almost went to the Huron one too, last year. It becomes difficult to film for youtube purposes with so many people around, though.
My guess for next year is 25 lifers
😇😇😇
Do you eBird? Next time you come to California you should send me your target species and I can give you suggestions.
I do, yeah. Sounds good, thanks Cliff.
