I had a neighbor who had one of these when I was a kid. He kept it chalked in his driveway busted for YEARS. I LOVED that truck he would let me and all the neighbors kids sit in it and play on the CB when we would play outside. I built models of it and even painted my Tamiya Bruiser the same color LOL. When I graduated high school he sold it to me for $100 bucks (after giving me a C note as a graduation gift lol)!!! Its in my garage to this day, my neighbor passed away a few years ago and now i'm obligated to keep it forever. RIP Smitty she's still running!!!

I have a 2nd gen 4runner that im starting a similar build on. He gave me some really good ideas to do that I wasn't thinking about. I'm originally from San Diego where prerunners are king but very expensive to build. Then I moved to the high desert of cali & got more into the trail/rock crawling world witch I found was a lot cheaper rig to build for a newbie & now I can't get enough. I love that TERRA crew is showing a different side of offroading. 👍👍

I have my Dads 1988 4Runner with a manual and a 22RE. I’m currently doing All Pros 4 inch SAS swap. The 4runner has been in my life since I was eight years old. I learn how to drive it at 11, took my behind the wheel at 18 in it. My dad gave it to me 3 years before he passed away. It’s like a member of the family. I’ll be at the hammers with it in a year.

This is sick, love the Toyota content. I have an '85 with the same paint as this one. About to hit 260,000. Motor was originally a 22re but swapped to a 2LT 4cyl turbo diesel about 10 years ago. Nowhere near as built out as this beast, but good for what I like to do.

Im running a 89 4Runner with a trail gear 4" SAS kit up front and rough stuff kit and 63's in the rear. been on a 6 year down after SAS (had 4 kids) just got it smogged and road worthy this year!!!! @10:30 found the perfect solution for a rear bumper thank you...never thought of coming from the side!! was going to grab a marlin crawler rear bumper but with the rear shackles i think they will hit that even though it isnt as steep of an angle for the mounting brackets, but square tube and from the side it is.

My dad had an 87 pickup for forever built for rock crawling before he moved to the mid west and got into an accident with it. He kept the motor, trans, diffs, roll bar, skid plate and rock sliders. When he had it it had close to 110k miles and then we bought another pickup that was an 86 and we rebuilt his motor and and put it in my truck and I’ve put close to 100k miles. We’re still working on kitting it out to be an ultimate rock crawler again. We just don’t have a lot of time but it’s almost done😎

I’m on my 3rd 22re equipped truck . The first two went 389k and 297k and both were still running strong when people crashed into them and totaled them. One got rear ended really bad on the freeway and the second one was totaled by a drunk driver while it was parked on the street. I can safely say they are the best engines I’ve ever had even more reliable than my newer Tacoma. The one I have now wasn’t the original motor to begin with, the previous owners son bogged the truck and threw a rod so this one is a junkyard swap but I ended up rebuilding it .020 over but mostly stock . Running it in my 86 4runner IFS. Maybe some day I’ll do a solid axle swap like this guy did but for my use IFS is good. This IFS with torsion bar system is pretty damn strong as it is. As long as you use Toyota OEM CV axles it’s hard to break.

I bought a 89 Toyota pickup with the 22re. I slapped a 3 inch body lift and a set of 35 inch all terrains I found used for 300 bucks. I drove that truck EVERYWHERE. The 22re had 295k on the ODO, but the ODO hadn't worked for a few years. It leaked oil from every where it could leak, so I would change the oil with straight 30 weight, and 2 quarts of Lucas oil stabilizer (I was 18). I sold it over 10 years ago and ran into the guy that has it now, still with the same tires and still hasn't rebuilt the engine🤣🤣
