I do have a few rods I've never broken.
I've never owned a fly rod I didn't break.
Yeah orvis got that from TFO, TFO has been selling individual sections of all their rods to repair broken setups without having to send in all your stuff for well over a decade now. definitely a much quicker and zero hassle process, im glad more companies are starting to adopts this approach.
I agree with the TFO thing, only downside is for the more popular items there can be a wait on production.
I live in DFW, so I buy TFO rods cause I can just pop by the warehouse and get a replacement section. I have only had to do this for my 8wt. broke the tip section twice. the first time they gave me one free, the second time it was like $35
Amen. This is why I’ve been a huge TFO fan ever since getting into fly fishing. They ship the new piece usually very quickly as well. You’ll get it within a couple of days.
TFO up here in Dallas will do the same thing if you walk in and bring the old piece they will do the exchange right there! Its been a true blessing that's for sure!
All ways been satisfied with orvis! Been mostly Clearwater and usually gets mailed out ahead of time they claimed!
Orvis is great for reel repairs as well. I recently sent them an old Scientific Anglers reel. It came back better than new! Kudos to Orvis.
A few years back I was at my sisters in Vermont. Was out fishing some small streams for Brookies and went to set hook on one and my tip hit a large branch over me breaking it. The next day I took a ride to Orvis in Manchester. Told the guy what happened, he went over to the rod rack picked up the exact rod ( the was a Helios) and handed it to me no questions asked. Told me to enjoy rest of my trip ! Since then I’ve bought several more rods from Orvis! Luckily I never had to use their warranty since. I have to say that Sage has a good warranty also !
Great story!
Hey Alvin! Just in case any one is curious, yes we’ll send you the parts for any newer rod that has the serial number in the reel seat if it’s the top three pieces. If it’s the butt section the entire rod will need to be mailed in. The warranty handling fee is the same if you do it from home or come into the shop, but we’ll cover shipping if you bring it in.
Thanks for the info!
I broke an H3 a few weekends ago on Sunday, files claim that night on the Orvis site…. New section arrived that Wednesday…. Awesome service!
Awesome!
I have slammed a few in the tailgails of trucks hahaha normally not fly fishing rods, but same broken it nots fun rod.
That is great news, I love it. I have just ordered another Orvis and this makes it even funner, I hope I dont break it, but I also know life happens.
Thanks for sharing and have a blessed week.

I have had 2 repairs with orvis and it was a peice of cake. I have 2 broken redington vice 7 weights sitting in my closet. Both broke in the same place with just a few days on each.
I broke my first fly rod the same way, in the spokes of my front tire and crashed to boot. A yellow Eagle Claw, but I can’t recall what weight. I think that was 1970-1972.
My first fly rod was a 7 wt with a 7 wt level line also. True Temper was the brand. Mine broke right above the handle when it was about 40 years old. Made me cry also.
Nothing like your first rod!
I broke a tip on a Thursday and got a new tip sent out and to me and by Tuesday I had that rod back in my quiver with orvis
I like the new intro music!
I like the new music in your intro. And orvis for life .
Thanks!
New intro tunes 👍
Do you think Orvis will repair a Practi-caster? Mine snapped, it doubles as our cat’s favorite toy.
Not sure on that one. Worth a call.
I have had good luck with Orvis repairs too. One thing you can do is you can order an extra tip for a rod as a backup, useful if going on a trip. Tom R. even mentioned this on the Orvis podcast so it's legit. I recently found out that Redington does a great job too. I lost the tip of my Redington Strike. Went online and paid $30 and had a replacement that fit perfectly sent to me in three days!
Thanks for the info!
Echo will preemptively sell you a tip section for an extra $40, but as far as I know it's "just the tip" lol. Great option if you're headed somewhere remote.
Joe Goodspeed does this with the Diamonback Rods now and Syndicate Rods also. Are you Euro curious
TFO or Thomas&Thomas. I literally sent only the buttsection and a few shards from the second section and they sent me a new rod.
Moonlit rods do this too for their sub $250 glass rods
Echo. They’re the literal best.
I use Orvis and Echo I’m my outfitting business, but echo has won my heart.
I run nothing but orvis because of their warranty and quick return. I break 2-4 a year and I get my rod back in 1-2 weeks. Sage took 8 months to get my rod back 2 years ago.
Sage has had my tip section for my 5wt Sonic for months and I'm not sure when I'm getting it back either. I think my plan is to sell all my Sage fly rods and get some more Orvis and/or G-Loomis because of this experience. It's unacceptable.
Yeah that sucks!
Ha! That’s what you get for holding out on Ian with the wooly bugger
Yeah man, I knew better.
Worst , Sage and Winston a month + Best Loomis / Shimano 3 days . TFO a week . CD a week . Never broke an Orvis . Good to know. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching.
Took Sage 7 months to get my rod back after I lost a tip. Seems like a long time.
Orvis DOES have a great rod repair service. Just had my Douglas repaired. All it took was a phone call and I had the new piece within a week. Some of the rod companies are making their rods so consistently that mailing the entire rod back (like Winston requires, but worth it) is obsolete.
Douglas has the same warranty repair service and a better rod (Sky G model won best 5 and 6 weight in the Yellowstone Anglers’ shootout) but for $250 cheaper. Don’t believe the Orvis marketing hype!
Echo and TFO do it
Thanks, good to know!
