      Welp royal guard is a definition of blocking aggressively, it is an actionable thing where guarding is usually interpreted as a passive hold thing, once one finds fun in guarding as an actionable thing, things change for the better ^_^.

    3:31 Gekko: "Neutral, everyone's least least favorite part of fighting games"
    Me: "what's he talking about? I love neutral!"
    Gekko: "unless you're a dedicated SF player"

      The Neutral is a defensive part of the game, the aim is to break the Neutral by taking the advantage. Everyone SAYS they love the Neutral, but who is in a game to DRAW all the time?

    however i decided to watch this vid out of random curiosity
    and this vid is exactly what i needed to hear back then
    maybe i'll try and give them a go again eventually, this vid is peak :D

    Melty Blood type lumina being my first fighting game. I was a bit disappointed when i leaned you needed to combo things in a specific order in guilty gear. "What do you mean i can't combo special moves into a super ?!?" Every fighting game is universally similar, but they all are all terrifyingly different when it comes to specifics. Maybe you just didn't find your style fitting fighting game yet if you're struggling so much.

    I spent $60 on a fighting game. Blocking is part of that.
    What ISN'T part of that is Jack-O hearing "I'm okay with blocking" and taking it to mean "all I want to do is block".
    Also, if offense is talking, and defense is listening, and DPs are telling your opponent to STFU, what are grabs?

    Funny, my current problems are all the exact opposite. I don't press anything because I'm terrified of getting counterhit for 70%. Then I get put in a blockstring, risc cranked, then that combo is 100%.

    • @aconcernedindividual297
      @aconcernedindividual297 6 часов назад +1

      Light punches and kicks are really good for getting out of sticky situations. Players comboing you will probably go for the big, time consuming, heavy hitter moves if they don't expect you to fight back, and those are easy to interrupt.

    • @a_wild_Kirillian
      @a_wild_Kirillian 2 часа назад

      Learn some basics about other characters, like what's minus on block.
      You can see and feel when they can't immediately act after some moves, it just requires experience watching for your brain to adjust.
      Then use your fastest button or jump at the point you expect that gap of several frames.
      Being terrified doesn't help. Actively trying to poke at different points and remembering the result does.
      It's a puzzle game, you're not losing anything real if you get combo-ed.

    I've been following this advice for years now, and it's been better off for my play. Even before this video was made, this was the most common advice I'd hear, other than advice about tilt and crash outs. Mainly because I made it EVERYONE ELSE'S problem, but sometimes it's like that and you can't get a safe distance fast enough. Anyway, thanks for reminding me and anyone else who needs to hear this advice, Gekko. You earned my like.

    As much as people hate the series, MK does a great job at teaching most of what was mentioned in the vid. Even mkx taught people to be patient (tho a different kind of patience). It’s the reason why so many lower level players can play the game decently. Can learn a character’s basics in like 30 minutes as opposed to other games where you have to devote your entire life to learning one character

    Haven't watched one of your vids in a while. Good topic. Thanks.
    I usually get games w/a gift card (no $60), but get what you mean on slowing down in SF6, Strive, Granblue, etc.
    Don't get to play as often as I like. so I'm usually mid-rank, though not frustrated.
    I find a person who follows your advice & doesn't have many openings can beat me, especially w/a command grab I don't react to. Fun vid. 🙂

    Applied this in a match of mk today. Had a sub zero full screen slide a lot, so I would start throwing projectiles and let him slide into me to punish him lol. My biggest issue is that I mash during block string though, so I’m working on getting better at it. Great video :)

    Honestly, I'm one of the lower perfect of players that love playing neutral. Like throwing fireballs, pokes ect though that leaves me a bit with bad habits of always wanting to do it and not captilzing on my opponent when they jump over the fireball in cases. My defense isn't bad either I would day I just I have trouble going on the offense as I'm the opposite. I'm pretty good on defense and neutral but on offense I get so caught up in blocking in all of my opponent that I often don't know when to or take my time blocking to see when I can press some buttons.

  • @kaneicosasrandom8630
    @kaneicosasrandom8630 9 часов назад

    To me is almost the opposite. I don't like too frantics games where the neutral basically doesn't exist and where your best defense is attack back. I want to fight but I also wants to know what the fuck is going on, I want to approach the enemy with a strategy and I want to be able to defend myself from that attack and wait patiently to the moment when I fight back with the right answer. Even if that answer is as simple as "Backward dash, 720 command grab", is something that I figured out after defend myself from a barrage of attacks, I worked for ir and will be a LOT more satisfying that if the game just would make thing easy and allow me to deal the same damage mashing buttons.

    I quit Tekken because the game does not really rewards you for defense. Also, once the opponent got you with launcher or a sweep, you can brew a cup of tea and empty it, because meanwhile your opponent will perform a long ass combo you cannot break by any means
    Shit, this is the same feeling as getting a headshot in CS right at the beginning of the round, so you have to wait the next for a very long time, and I hate it very very much
