      @@1cdmap, from Wikipedia:
      America's entry into World War II resulted in a deluge of support for the war effort from all sectors of society, and Hollywood was no exception. Wayne was exempted from service due to his age (34 at the time of Pearl Harbor) and family status (classified as 3-A - family deferment). Wayne repeatedly wrote to John Ford saying he wanted to enlist, on one occasion inquiring whether he could get into Ford's military unit.[38] Wayne did not attempt to prevent his reclassification as 1-A (draft eligible), but Republic Studios was emphatically resistant to losing him since he was their only A-list actor under contract. Herbert J. Yates, President of Republic, threatened Wayne with a lawsuit if he walked away from his contract,[39] and Republic Pictures intervened in the Selective Service process, requesting Wayne's further deferment.[40]
      With Joan Blondell in Lady for a Night (1942)
      U.S. National Archives records indicate that Wayne, in fact, did make an application[41] to serve in the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), precursor to the modern CIA, and had been accepted within the U.S. Army's allotted billet to the OSS. William J. Donovan, OSS Commander, wrote Wayne a letter informing him of his acceptance into the Field Photographic Unit, but the letter went to his estranged wife Josephine's home. She never told him about it. Wayne toured U.S. bases and hospitals in the South Pacific for three months in 1943 and 1944,[42] with the USO.[43][44][45] During this trip, he carried out a request from Donovan to assess whether General Douglas MacArthur, commander of the South West Pacific Area, or his staff were hindering the work of the OSS.[21]:88 Donovan later issued Wayne an OSS Certificate of Service to memorialize Wayne's contribution to the OSS mission.[21]:88[46]
      Shut up.

    I haven't cried in 1997 on the day he died because he went without me hearing and not knowing he was ill. It is 19 years and to the day later that I learned he passed away while I watch Ed a prerecorded show on "RUclips's The Dini Petty Show" where she interviewed the late Great Red Skelton.

      Marion Morrison was a draft-dodging chickenhawk and an abusive alcoholic. Soldiers booed his ass away at PFO shows till he fucked off for good. You're thinking of a completely fictional character.

    • @seanmartin1989
      @seanmartin1989 7 лет назад +21

      Endoptic Not a draft dodger! John Wayne, born 1907, WWI 1914-1918 (Wayne age:7-11). WWII 1941-1945 (Wayne age 34-38). Korea 1950-1953 (Wayne age 43-46). His age made it so he didn't have to be drafted.

    • @Endoptic
      @Endoptic 7 лет назад +3

      Marion Morrison was classified as 3-A for deferred for family dependency in '42. He was reclassified 1-A in '44 but wriggled out via his studio's clout. He stayed in Hollywood becoming a star instead of doing his hitch. This was known by enough soldiers to piss 'em off when he tried to play tough guy patriot right in their faces. Some even got a few hits in when he strutted about, obviously without uniform or excuse. ;D

    I think Red Skelton was one of the funniest comedians on TV and never said or needed a four letter word to get a laugh, Red's saying not mine in his last day of his last series of shows on TV. I liked Benny Hill too. I do not think Red Skelton or Benny Hill has ever been replaced with anyone as funny, just as no actor has ever filled John Wayne's acting shoes. No matter what John Wayne's roll, from cowboy, to detective, to a sea captain, he was always entertaining.

      This all has to do with who is promoted nowadays. In the past there were entertainers.. people with real talent. But now because of the rise of reality show, the ones who are promoted the most are those who are the most extravagant, bizarre, hated, disgusting and extraordinary. Instead of the audience being entertained by skill, the modern audience is entertained by a spectacle likened to a circus sideshow.
