Great instructional video. I'm a 67 year grandpa, who has always been pretty self-sufficient. I've changed wheel bearings on trailers, but this was a little more of a challenge to me...ABS braking system, 4x4 hub, ect. Add to the equation that I have stage four cancer, and my stamina is not what it used to be.
I was quoted a price of $584.00 to do the job, which is probably accurate. But being on Social Security that is quite a bit of money, for something I thought I should be able to do. Searched the web, and found this video to be the best. Ordered the part from 1A Auto on Thursday and had the part delivered Friday.
I started the job Saturday morning about 9:30 and finished about 5:30 that afternoon. This included a couple of rest breaks, a nice lunch and a 2 1/2 hour break to watch one of my grandson's baseball game .. his team won & he went 2 for 4.
Besides the money saved, the feeling of self-accomplishment was priceless. THANK YOU so much.
Nice work. We're glad the video helped you out. 1aauto.com 866-403-3393
Good video, but you really should make it clear that this is a 4 wheel drive truck and hub and that the parts are different for a 2WD truck
Mike Lindsey easier on the 2wd
Yes, mine is a 2wd and is totally different from what they are showing here. Thanks for pointing that out
I agree! I haven’t seen a video on a 2WD
He did very beginning even pictured the truck side with 4x4 on side
The truck says 4x4 on the side
You guys saved me hundreds of dollars today. Thank you for this incredible video. In total, with clean up included, this took me an hour and a half on a Sunday afternoon. I will be sure to order parts from you in the future. This was already mentioned in a previous comment, but you do not need to disassemble the calliper. Just take it off as it is. It will save you a few steps.

Same here, fantastic video that taught me everything I needed to complete the job! Incredible resource
This doesnt help me at all... i got an 07 f150 2wd. That hub nut on mine is a 36 mm nut.. ugh its always 4x4 never 2wd
Couldn't you just take off the whole brake caliper together in one?
I did
Came to the comments to say the same thing
The money I saved by doing this myself, I bought cocaine and hookers. Please show me how to do more
Please change title to reflect AWD or 4x4 Title is misleading. WOuld like to thumbs up, but content is good so thumbing down. Wasted a lot of peoples time according to vid title and comments.
Thanks so much for this video, guys. Used it to replace a grinding bearing this morning.

Thank you! !! Sooo much.. please make more videos ( we save money lol)

On a 2W 08 model, you just have to replace the rotor.
It comes with the hub. Or you can buy just the bearings and press them out.
6:35 Is that cap important?
I've just found out my truck doesn't have it, I've found a lot of irregularities anyways (f*king mechanics)
Great video all around. Nice work. Keep videos like this coming. Very useful for guys that still work on their own cars/trucks and who aren't afraid to tackle something new. Videos like this save guys like us real $$$$. Wish I would've bought the hubs from you...would've saved $100 per hub. Damn!!! I'll head your way next time I need any parts!
+Benjie Lewis Thanks for checking us out. All of our wheel hub bearings no include a lifetime warranty too! www.1aauto.com/wheel-bearing-and-hub-assembly-front/i/1ashf00200?RUclips&CTA%20Comment&ATony
sorry but this does not match up with my 2006 F150. first the hub bolt is 26 mm and the disk plate is made as one piece to the hub, it does not come off.
might want to put in title its for a 4 wheel drive aka 4x4 or is it the same for both 2x4 and 4x4?
Make sure you know your build date if you buy the hub at the store.
The lug nut torque is incorrect. the lug nuts get torqued to 150 ft lbs
what wheel hud do i need for 05 f150 4x4 manufactured 3/05
Thanks for the video. Well informative. I repaired my F150 today with no problems.
I use a breaker bar, wouldnt put a pipe on a costly ratchet
Could have just took the caliper off as one piece
Your videos are great and well explained. The best thing they offer is a list of tools, saves me so much time searching and guessing sizes. Thanks for the help!!!
What were the symptoms for this replacement?
2wd have the hubs built into the rotors fyi
Awesome, you save me a lot of money. Lot easier than I thought it would be.
Dude those 18 mil are ridiquolous to get off
you forgot to spary it with brake cleaner on the rotor
Good video, but this is for a 4x4, not a 4x2.
I get mixes answers shoot reusing the "1 time use" axle nut. (Recommended). So is it absolutely necessary or can i actually reuse iy? I know whoever has truck before me reused it. Even put anti seize on the threads. No sign of any loctite... .
*Product arrived ahead of schedule🌗 **allabout.wiki/FrontWheel** was intact in packaging & my mechanic installed the parts without issue. The vehicle seemed to preform well after the installation & the ABS issue related to the sensors (old & rusty) was eliminated. Thanks Detroit Axle & Amazon!*
Is this easy or expensive enough that someone might take a good one from a truck to replace a bad one on another truck, and put the bad one on the truck that the good one was taken from? I let a friend of a mutual friend borrow my truck for a week or so which had no problems. Now all of sudden the right front wheel sounds bad while driving and esp when turning now as if it's rubbing (or maybe needs grease?), AND driver side of engine sounds like a lifter or pushrod is tapping. On top of which my 2 rear suicide doors are stuck closed on the bottom, dents and scratches in back, front of bed wall is bent pushed in under rear window, and tailgate top liner was ripped off and nasty dent on top corner above tail light. Plz Spare me any lecture, I've def learned my lesson about being a nice guy. And if course I can't prove any of it.
And turns out the guy seems to be a pretty sketchy dude and doesn't return calls. Def not ever doing this again. Some people can be total scum.
other vid said 150 of foot pounds ?
Hey great part and great video BUT use THREAD LOCKER on the 4 bolts, I just had a bolt fall out from vibration, it destroyed one entire wheel and taking off the bearing to inspect it's condition, but use thread locker it can save your life and money
Me too! Just cost me 125.00 and it almost ruined my rim. The thing I don’t get, is 25 foot lbs?? On other videos they say 95 foot pounds and 1 guy even said 140.... which I think is crazy!
@@AC-tl3hl i think the 25 was the brake caliper. an 18 should be like a hundred.. ive sheered those off so i know what it feels like to turn it too much. just turn it till it stops moving then try to give it a little more when your wrench is bending and leave it at that.. if youre trying to kill it then youre gonna break it..
How much does this usually cost at a shop
Hi there! I hope you can help me! I am from Germany and i have a Problem with my 2008 Ford F 150 4x4, 4.6L . He shows me the Error"Trans fault" and the o/d is flashing.Hi! I had the error scanned, there is a problem with the 1st gear solenoid valve. Wich one is the solenoid of the #1? Do you have a Instruction? Thanks and best regards!
What are splines? Some wheel hubs have different number of splines when I look them up for purchase.
I’ve done several hubs here at home over the years… the old ones never seem to just jump off the knuckle like yours but it’s gotten easier over the years. They can be frozen on there here in New England… salt is the worst!
Does it not need to be greased?
Spent like $470 today getting my drivers side replaced for my 2008 F150 after a week of it scraping, finally had a day off and took it in.
Might just go by this tutorial for my passenger side
I watched another video that guy didn't remove the calipers.
Thank GOD!!!! For A1 Auto. Ty so much for sharing. GOD Bless you all for helping with this show
Thank you
Oh, one thing to note: I have a 5 spoke, 2004 F-150, the bolts holding the assembly were 15mm, not 18mm (the caliper bolts were 18mm). 04 was the year Ford thought it would be cool to release 2 models of the same truck. I want to say I have the "non-heritage" model. But I forget.
I also needed a 1 3/8 socket to remove the spindle nut from the assembly, not 13mm.
Parts ordered!!! Wish me luck!!
Good video it should include tips for a rotor that’s stuck on because most are
Yes this was an awesome fix. Really appreciate the video and 1A Auto.
I currently have an 04 F150 XLT 5.4L Triton 4x4 and my question for anyone who has an answer would be this video being the specific 4 Door 4x4 F150 are the processes the same even if mine is a supercab? The F150 I have does have the same 4x4 on the side likewise to the one in the video. Thanks for helping!
Same as what im doing right now.
Would a 2 wheel drive truck be the same as this
How much play should a wheel assembly have ?
Only my bearings are bad. Would I have to replace the entire assembly like you are doing in the video? Or can just the bearings be replaced? I'm referring to the bearings that you grease at 4:46 in the video. Thanks
+bradsteel23 Thanks for checking us out! The bearing can be replaced y itself however it will need to be pressed on to the original hub prior to installation. Please let us know if you have any further questions, thank you.
Thanks for the video. Perfect.
Great video, I couldn't find what still holding my hub on and it was the 13mm nut, If I had watched this first would have saved all kinds of time, now I know. Great price on the replacement hub too!
A little know-how can go a long way. We're glad the video helped you out. 1aauto.com 866-403-3393
Buy a breaker bar
Great video
I was always told to never double click the torque wrench. You’re just over torquing it if so
+Inverted1100 We appreciate the feedback. Sometimes there are multiple ways to accomplish the same repair.
In my experience everybody does it different. Any way of torquing it is gonna be better than not doing it at all
question, should you grease the two slide bolts on the caliper as well?
+Randy Phelps Yes, You should also apple some caliper pin or caliper bolt grease to them. It will allow the caliper to slide freely when applying the brakes. You can find the caliper grease at your local auto parts store. Hope this helps you out 1aauto.com
You saved me a lot of money now and possibly in the future.

how does this apply to a RWD? same steps?
+Joe Lusk Thanks for watching! The RWD models actually have the bearings pressed into the brake rotors,so the process is completely different. Unfortunately we do not have a video for that procedure. Any other viewers interested in this 4x4 assembly please click the link! www.1aauto.com/wheel-bearing-and-hub-assembly-front/i/1ashf00200?RUclips&CTA+Comment&MQNYPNvBNjg
1A Auto Parts I got it figured out after watching your video I realized I dad the wrong part. the hubs are just held on with an axle nut at 296 ft lbs torque. the torque might be incorrect but I'll look it up when I do it next week. I love the videos they've helped a lot the past couple of years.
Good video thanks!!
+TasteThy Boot Thanks for checking us out. 1AAuto.com
Any locations in dallas
+Aven Miller At this time we do not have any physical locations and are based completely online. Check us out at 1aauto.com
@@1AAuto ok thanks i need a good mechanic in the dallas area anyone got any recommendations?
is it the same process for a 2wd?
and i can't seem to find the wheel bearing assembly for a 2wd. should i just assume the same part used on a 4wd will work on a 2wd?
The wheel bearing shown in the video only fits the 4WD. If you would like to reply back with your year, make and model vehicle we can see if we carry the proper one for your vehicle. 1aauto.com
I also need for a 2WD, 2005.
That you much for this video, I need to do this exact repair on my F-150. Have an auto shop wanting to charge $420 for replacing the bearing and hub assembly, yet I can find the part for $70-80. Is there something I'm missing that would account for the extra couple hundred? Surely not labor, I'm being quoted $370 for the bearing and hub assembly.
+Russell McClendon This video will help you with the repair. We carry the wheel hub bearing assemblies shown in this video on our website. We also offer free shipping and a lifetime warranty on them. Here is a link to them, hope this helps you out www.1aauto.com/wheel-bearing-and-hub-assembly-front/i/1ashf00200?RUclips&CTA+Comment&MQNYPNvBNjg
Had to pick one up at a local dealer last night (bearing was totally gone, so couldn't wait on shipping, sadly), but I have you bookmarked for the future now.
I did get the repair done, ran into some snags as my rotor was completely rust welded to the hub. 2 hours and much pounding got the whole rotor+hub/baring assembly off together and I was able to break the rotor free with some application of brute force and a big hammer.
I highly recommend anyone doing this repair use some sort of hanger to hold their caliper and brake pad assembly up. After 3 hours of work getting things apart and then back together I bumped my caliper from where it was resting and it fell, snapping my brake line *sigh* I get to replace that tonight!
I'll be shopping your site next week when I look for replacement rotors!
Thanks so much! took me less than an hours including rotating the tires!

Well done video....thanx
how much is the torque..??
for 18mm nuts, should be 148 ft. lbs
