@@transientimages this Habanera was written in 1895 as part of the suite Sites Auriculaires for two pianos. Before Debussy's Granada. And later, around the time of Rapsodie Espagnole, the rumour spread that Ravel copied Debussy! The similarity may be in the ostinato. Anyway, Ravel was furious and asked for the partition to always mention (at the Habanera's beginning) that it was written in 1895, to avoid any further misunderstanding. Funny thing, Debussy heard the Habanera before many others, back in 1895, and before his Estampes... so who knows?
The Habanera was originally written for 2 pianos for sure, in 1895. He reused it for Rapsodie Espagnole. Wouldn't know about the reduction of the other parts
0:05 Prélude à la nuit
3:50 Malagueña
5:55 Habanera
8:31 Feria
It could be just me but I feel Debussy took from the Habanera to make his " an evening in Granada"

Can i say one of the best piano work by the immense Ravel, I love it
Great piece.
Is there in this world something more wonderful than this marvel ??
This is actually a piece for Piano Duet, one piano , four hands. My piano partner and I have played it many times.
This is played on two pianos.
Err, no I don't think it is. It is possible on one piano but the first thing Ravel wrote was the Habanera, clearly scored for 2 pianos.

There is also a 4-hand version, but this is definitely the 2 piano version :)
