I always think of this series as the end of innocence in America as the following month after the dodger sweep JFK would be killed and American troops would be in Vietnam by early 1965, followed by more political assassinations and riots. Thanks for this post.
When told their team batting average was .171, Mantle said, "I'm surprised we hit that good." But Whitey had the best line. Q, "Does Koufax have a weakness?" Whitey, "Sure. He can't hit."
Dang, the first game they had Guy Lombardo's band backing up the singer on the National Anthem. Second game they had Tommy Dorsey's band. I'm interested who else they'll have.
Had it been a year later, they would have had the Boston Pops backing up the Beatles. Wait a minute ... the Beatles wouldn't sing the US national anthem.
This was probably the best Dodger team of the decade. Scary good.
