2:20 That's not electability for the mayor, that's electability for you: The more people on the level that like you, the more people that will vote for you.
My favorite part of SoR is how, once you've beat the Corrupt Evil Mayor and taken their place, your character for that run is the new Corrupt Evil Mayor that needs to be defeated next run. It works as Robocop-style social commentary, a hilarious excuse for continuing the premise of the game, and a cool bit of world customization.
Me, before Streets of Rogue: "Oh boy oh golly gee, another roguelike game! What a cute and quirky art style!" Me, after Streets of Rogue: *Proceeds to incite a war between cannibals and gorillas whilst injecting a copious amount of unlabeled drugs into my body.*
Before: I don’t know if I’ll like this game, I already have to many unfinished rogue-likes. After: I am joining the war on drugs, *on the side of the drugs*
10:00 I was actually shocked how different each character plays, since every single game touts 'X amount of characters, X amounts of ways to play the game!' whereas they are just different flavours of the same thing, meanwhile in streets of rogue, comparing characters is like comparing apples to oranges to fork and lamps, and so on....
You haven’t truly lived until you switch on the exploding bodies mutator and roll the war zone for an end of floor event. What I love about this game is that it doesn’t really matter how long you’ve played it, there’s always the possibility of some ridiculous, random, hilarious thing just happening out of nowhere.
This game is honestly amazing. I'm seriously hyped for the sequel. Stupidly hard though. Also, about you talking about possible rewards for doing big quest, and having never gotten to the final level. If you do a character's big quest and reach the final level, you unlock a special variant. Usually, you only have it for the final level, but that's boring, so there's a mutator I essentially always enable to let you just play with the upgraded ones. They range from minor stat changes to completely different character designs. A lot of mutators stop you from being able to get the big quest unlocks and you need to do one for every character if you want the upgraded forms of every character though. Which means, the difficulty in this game isn't just playing through the game once, but doing so again and again with other characters to unlock their upgraded forms.
One correction: The change in electability at the end of each stage is a change in YOUR electability. One of the ways to win the game (there are several) is to be elected the new mayor. If you want to try this yourself, the easiest way to pull it off is playing as the Comedian.
this was kindof a big question for me, in the ranking vid. and I was trying to figure it out. like, it seems the fans have this specific idea... I was never part of this specific group, the Deus ex people. to me, Immersive sim, would have been Ultima:underworld, then its contemporaries. things like Divinity might even check the box. Then, most survival settlement builders. Especially Kenshi. even fallout 4. I know Charlatan Wonder is aware of Kenshi. so... how is Kenshi not an Immersive sim? its like the open world stuff, is discounted. they mean deus ex clones for the most part.
I have a way of cooking crispy chicken that is hella delicious but also really quite healthy or at least fibre rich. Wholemeal rye flour as opposed to white flour, 11 different herbs and spices as well as chia and sesame seeds. No egg involved. I’ve yet to meet a person that did not like it, even people who claim to not like spice have enjoyed my crispy chicken. I also typically use deboned chicken thigh as I personally prefer it and you have to really overcook chicken thigh to make it dry as opposed to breast. Plus chicken thigh is typically cheaper as most people don’t like deboning their own meat. As a chef I really enjoy Charlatans cooking segments.
I adore the Jock. If you get the supersize trait, you can literally just break any wall but metal (including the boundaries, allowing you to run off the stage). It's like playing Breakout with a superball/pierce powerup
It really surprises me how different each character plays. When you read the description they all sound like little caveats, but the gameplay changes pretty significantly depending on your choice. Love this game! Also the soundtrack is my jam

This is coming dangerously close to being my favorite game ever. So much depth and detail in the gameworld, it feels very alive. I like it when games set up a few basic rules and objects that interact very consistently and then leave everything else up to rng and the player. Also disagree with the controller part. This game feels better with mouse and keyboard imo. There is a lot of stuff you can hover over with the mouse and its faster to use your inventory that way.
One of my favorite parts of the game has to be the different ways you can use drugs. Like inserting a pill that makes you gigantic into a buildings air vent causing everyone to run out of the building and become gigantic. In the process they may step on someone or break another building usually causing a huge fire fight to break out resulting in a lot of deaths. All of this just to retrieve a McGuffin muffin.
When I was in high school, a demo of this game spread through the computer lab like wildfire. It only had the first two areas, but I remember spending so much time messing around with the content that was available and I couldn't get enough. Weirdly, I never followed up on the game. So after watching this I've been convinced to finally buy it and finish what I started all those years ago.
Completely sold me on this game and with perfect timing too. The switch version is half off right now so I picked the game up during the cooking segment
This just reminds me I should post my custom characters to the workshop sometime. They're kind of old as most of them are "advanced" versions of existing classes before big missions were a thing. My personal favorite was the Mall Cop, a Paul Blart type that had a taser, handcuffs and no corruption benefits. Some incarnations either had rivalries with the gangs, mob or sometimes the gorillas.
