The Rumbling by SiM is so popular that it hit #1 on the US Rock Billboard Chart. It was the first Japanese song to ever do this which is crazy considering the song was made for an anime, even if it was one of AoT’s calibur!
well considering that it's the OP for the alleged final season of one of the most well-known animes, AND lyrics are in english. It's not a big surprise.
Just as a note, pretty much every anime opening is written for that particular show. There are definitely exceptions but the majority are made with the show in mind.
@@skyllamma991 yeah I’ve seen the wars about people’s favorite opening, I might give Sasageyo the slight edge but I think they should just enjoy both masterpieces for what they are
I like both OP but I'll choose The Rumbling because the lyrics and the situation of Eren right in this season is match and whenever I listened I feel like I'm becoming Eren🤣
the "grab a knife" is symbolic in a lot of ways: grabbing a knife to save mikasa, putting on odm gear to save his home, starting the rumbling to save his friends
This song is one of best anime openings of all time without question. Also this captures Eren's character essence so flawlessly. Like the "I swear" screams after every line signifies that he always intended to do the right things in every step of his life, yet also raging at the same time. This OP is the GOAT! Also loved the reaction.
7:10 I had the exact same thought process. I thought 'grab the knife' referred to when he saved Mikasa. And they showed that scene a few seconds later in the anime opening. But here they showed the ODM sword in this version, so I thought "hmm, maybe not."
The meaning can have multiple perspectives. The image of mikasa grabbing the knife is a part of her arc but it's also part of the main theme of the show which is humanity's will to live and fight for freedom in a cruel world
Thank you for the reaction, really enjoyed it. I wanted to say that if you’re going to react to the ending, you should do it with English subs as it has some really nice lyrics. Thanks.😊
This song is a Masterpiece!! The way it goes first all angry, then emotional and then angry again!! Just love it!! especially the ending when the main chorus feels like emotional like sad and then the line comes "I don't want anything I'm just here to...!!" And then it switches to anger again "Bewareeee!!!" just love it!!
I also like this OP, so I'm glad that the two of you enjoyed it. Contrary to Eren's strangely calm appearance for most of the film, this song is very intense. It's like listening to Eren's inner cry. 👣
Just as a note regarding spoilers: I'm fairly certain that in Japan they don't really care about spoilers like western audiences do. "A spoiled plot isn't a spoiled show" is kinda how it's thought of there.
It's not because they don't care about spoilers. It's because most read the manga so spoilers won't affect them and the visuals are for hyping what people already know will happen from the manga.
most anime openings have many huge spoilers but you would never notice them or understand them until after you watched the show it shows whats going to happen and gives you reason to be hyped to watch
Easily the best opening in anime for me, not for everyone. But you will have to watch the Ending and read the lyrics to it too another masterpiece included to the show!! Love you guys!😁
By far the best opening. The official music video has a longer version which i enjoy alot and has AOT stuff so its cool to see they wrote it for the show.
Guys, every song has been written specifically for the show. For example, the first ending with mikasa is an answer wich response you can find in this season ending with Eren. If you like, I can make a short list of songs from the ost tha I consider to be really helpfull with how the story was written. Hiroyuki sawano and kohta yamamoto are true legends, teacher and student, but Hiroyuki sawano has the more lyrics in his songs that are made for the show, world and characters :)
This opening is the only one my parents wouldn't want me to skip when we binged AOT. They liked this one that much, and my parents don't like anime or heavier music, so that's a win!
I’m pretty sure the show runners for the anime asked Isayama what music they think Eren would listen to and “The Rumbling” is the result of that! Perfect song for season 4 Eren!
I think it's beautiful that you guys are reacting to it. Not leaving it way till the end. That makes me happy. I'm glad you're doing it. I'm glad you like the song. I love the song
it's a reference to many things at the same time, that's why it is so beautiful. beautiful lines followed by "I SWEAR!!!" screamed by a literal monster.
Hajime Isayama hand selects the bands to perform for the Opening songs, Ending songs, and Original Sound Tracks!!! He intentionally instructs them and adds in easter eggs for the story to be unravelled later
It should be noted that when the ending of the third season (first half) was made the music video goes deep into detail that not even the manga was at yet. They defiantly go through the story when making these
Not all opening songs were made for anime. This is one of the special times it was. Often the openings are used to promote upcoming albums and stuff. But this one was obviously made for this. They knew from the manga what would happen and had a song made to hype up what was coming.

So happy to see you guys really enjoying this opening! ❤ And I think you guys should react to full ending song too. Of course after episode 28 as in the video says. 😊
I think the "never wanted to grab a knife" part is for Mikasa. Eren wanted to kill the kidnappers, he willingly took the knife and called them filthy beasts after killing them, whereas Mikasa never wanted to get involved in the violence, she did it to save Eren's life and activated her Ackerman instincts. Also I'm pretty sure that the middle finger and the index finger is shown as the colossal titan walking, the rumbling, name of the song, LoL.
It's all from Eren's perspective. Both the opening and closing songs are through his eyes and are linked. In the outro the beginning of it shows him as a kid holding a bloody knife.
The song and lyrics hits so hard, and the ending song is really beautiful, just look forward to it. Thank you for reacting to it, hopefully it doesn't get copyrighted but it's really worth it!!

So amazing to see y'all enjoy this opening so much :'). I think you should definitely react to the ending in it's own video like this too. And definitely with lyrics as well. Both the opening and ending for this part of the season are just so beautiful.
yeah butterfly thing is significant, kid Eren was chasing a butterfly when both Zeke and Old Eren were walking through Grisha's memories.. but now we see that butterfly crushed under titan's feet.. 😭

All AOT songs, soundtrack are written specifically for the anime. The singers/songwriters for each song actually consulted with the producers and also the AOT manga writer Isayama prior to their songwriting process.
All songs in this Aniem intro and outro were specifically composed and written with the story and characters in mind. More over specifically for AOT the openings and endings answer to each other.
I don't know if everyone notice this but in the end of the opening while getting a closer look into eren's eyes, they literally showed us the eren's final form. I noticed this literally a few months ago and i have listened to this op so many times.
Since the spoiler topic came out on this video, I think it’s important to notice that Anime productions are rarely influenced by foreign outlooks on the media. Henceforth why there’s so many spoilers in opening/ending sequences is because studios and producers expect their targeted audience (Japanese people) to be already familiar with their source material (manga, light novel, webtoon, etc). Since this media is not as accessible in other countries, many people find it odd that there can be so many spoilers. Hope this explanation clears up some things
If I lose it all. I wonder if means losing his humanity. Like armin always said in season 1. You can’t change anything if you don’t lose your humanity. Eren took it to the next level as that idea festered in him for so long.
Have you checked out the outro for part 2, with the lyrics? Both opening and closing songs are from Eren's perspective. Part 2 hands down has the best opening and closing in the series.
I just don't like how Ron is like super focused on the search of meaning behind the words and what moments are present in the video. Like dude, could you just appreciate the song and visuals the first time you hear this masterpeace? Jeez
When the lyrics say “ All I ever wanted to do was save your life, I never wanted to grab a knife” it reminds me of the time that Eren saved Mikasa when they were kids.
This intro is Eren singing to Mikasa, while the first ending of the first season was Mikasa singing to Eren, and in both songs there is the reference to the knife Eren used to kill his first person. And the ending of this season is really good too.
I think the outro to S4part 2 is even more emotional. I haven’t kept up to date with all your videos but hopefully you had a good reaction to that one!! It’s called Akuma no Ko. Makes me wonder how Eren really feels about Mikasa.
What I've watched (Or read) haha about soundtracks of animes are the artist/s that was chosen to provide an OP / ED songs are provided a layout of what the series or season will be.. then out of those songs that was provided to the producers they will choose what will be the official song, Love your channel by the way been a subscriber not pretty sure since day one (but surely around that time haha)! Shizou Sasageyo!
The grab the knife line I took as a metaphor to Erin having to become the bad guy and take lives. It could mean lots of things, but he killed a lot of people to try and save his friends and fellow eldians.
Later at 4:19 when they show young Eren, you can see a faint image of when he was stabbing the kidnappers. This really makes me think the "I never wanted to grab a knife" line was referencing the scene with Mikasa.
I think when he says "I just wanted to save your life, I never wanted to grab the knife." was referencing the odm gear because of his desire to save his mom, not the knife used to save Mikasa. Remember he tried going back to save his mom but was stopped by Hannes, he only wanted to start slaughtering the titans after his mother was eaten by them.
My take on OPs is that if you're watching weekly as it airs, decide for yourself, watching is completely fine (if there are spoilers, then that's how the creators decided to make it). If binging, watch the first time without deep diving (thinking heavily) into it, then watch after the season however much you want (with or without deep diving).
The ending hits hard tbh. If you know what i mean. Check the ending of season 3 i think? Where Mikasa is talking and then Eren replies in the last season ending
I think almost everyone can agree that this opening got us more excited at what's to come than upset that it was spoiled. That's why many people wanted you guys to react to it right away especially since the song is so good. Unlike Naruto openings that are good but still spoil plot points and twists for no real reason lol
All of the lyrics could be about Eren's psyche. "do right things" = join the survey corps and save his people, "never wanted to be the king" = becomes the founding titan, basically the king of all subjects of Ymir. "save your life" "never wanted to grab a knife" = subjectively, it can be about Eren saving Mikasa. "you tell me what have I missed" "still wandering in the deep mist" = rewatch the show and notice that everyone who told Eren how and what to do, shaped him to, eventually, start the rumbling, yet, he himself doesn't know if it is right or wrong.
a lot of the artists that make anime OP's are fans of the manga/anime already and jump at the opportunity or volunteer for it. Watch the first take documentary of ALI talking about how he wrote the JJK ending and you'll see a great example of that.

When i first hear this song it reminds me of the song "welcome home" by coheed and cambria..
The ending hits hard tbh. If you know what i mean. Check the ending of season 3 i think? Where Mikasa is talking and then Eren replies in the last season ending
Im not even into screaming music, but this song is so good.
I think almost everyone can agree that this opening got us more excited at what's to come than upset that it was spoiled. That's why many people wanted you guys to react to it right away especially since the song is so good. Unlike Naruto openings that are good but still spoil plot points and twists for no real reason lol
6:47 damn I could not get that reference if you guys did not figure it out, the last OP lyricals to the first season, what a MATCH
you guys should definitely watch tokyo revengers!! it pulls on all the heart strings whilst having sick fighting scenes.
All of the lyrics could be about Eren's psyche.
"do right things" = join the survey corps and save his people,
"never wanted to be the king" = becomes the founding titan, basically the king of all subjects of Ymir.
The ending is just as good worth checking out too
Ok not just as good, but still real good
I get goosebumps whenever I listen to this.
Probably the only reaction to this song that actually talked about the lyrics
