I made this lover's knot quilt in purple with a cream background. I still haven't put a border and get it ready for quilting.

Stains on your quilt are heart-breaking. My first thought is a product designed for stains on fabric that has been stored for a long time. It is called Retro Clean; it's primary ingredient is sodium perborate. This product is a bit costly. I would first wash a small piece of the bleeding fabric with a small piece of white fabric. Then test the stained fabric with Retro Clean. I also recommend running a search online. I asked "how to remove stains from fabric color bleed" and received several results. You might also try Oxi-Clean. I have had good luck with this product for whitening and brightening fabrics with no damage to them. You can allow long soaks with Oxi-Clean, 2 or 3 days. etc. How about contacted the restoration dept of a museum? I hope you can find an answer.
