Yorkshire Surprise Major at Basford

  • The first of four videos from the Young Ringer's Outing to Nottingham that I organised for early December 2010. This was the first tower on the tour: the lovely heavy 8 at Basford, St Leodegarius.
    Basford are one of only two peals of bells that are actually a war memorial: rather than having a cross outside with names on, the ring of bells is dedicated to the memory of all those who died in the World Wars. The tower captain delighted in telling everyone that at least twice... Bless him, he's 95! And you can spot him sat just to the side of the tenor.

    These are a lovely eight. I'm sure they were quieter when I rang here. My goodness Alex's hair is fabulous!

    rang there in october ! we found them a little tough and no3 missing a stay ! beautiful sound
    is there really only two memorial sets of bells? Here and Carrickfergus?
