My wife just took delivery of a 2024 A5 Cabriolet yesterday (I would have popped for the S, but who am I to complain?). It’s a beautiful car and plenty of engine for her needs. Interesting, if you are in the market for a smaller 4-seat luxury convertible under $100k right now, your options have become limited. The C-class is gone, to be replaced (along with the E) by a CLE that is slightly larger than the C, more expensive, and not available yet. And the BMW 4 series has that grill………so she settled on Audi almost by default, and I m glad she did.
I’m thinking of getting the a5 cabriolet as well I live in Canada Toronto tho I don’t know if it will be a problem in the winter….. thinking of leasing for 4 years around 1K Canadian dollars a month
I have had this car for 6 months in Navarro blue with grey interior and grey top. For me it's the perfect mix of fun and comfort. It's got plenty of power just delivers it so smoothly.
I own a 2020 M440i convertible. great car with good MPG due to mini hybrid motor. A 48-volt starter motor-generator and the supplementary battery can give an 11bhp kick at low engine speeds. Also very fuel conservative! ( Combined 32 mpg) Performance is superb compared to the Audi S5 which I tested but as you mentioned lacked the performance torque and slow shifting. My m440i is loaded with all the BMW packages and it is priced out at $68,500 less BMW loyalty and incentives. The one thing I really like about the Audi over the BMW is the B & O sound system vs the Harmon Kardon.
I just got the S5 sportback 2022 and I feel like this car has all the power and luxury. Definitely recommend this car if you are a true audi fan. I don’t agree with BMW having an edge over this beast because I really smoke all BMW’s around my town. Great review Joe and Lori!

I had an 2013 Convertible Audi S5 and it was a head turner for sure, but boy did I put some money into it. I saved a lot as I found a Mechanic who was certified to fix my car, but parts was the main Money Taker.
Audis like most luxury Euro cars are only good until it reaches 80-100k miles. Even with basic maintenance, you're guarantee costly repairs towards those high miles range. I had a Mercedes convertible and I also have a 2016 Audi A5 convertible. Engine problems on both. So its no surprise that most owners get rid of their Audis before it reaches the 80k miles mark. Its not like a honda or a toyota where you can bank on it lasting well over 200k. Nope. Euro cars are made for the short term.
We have 2 Audi’s; a 2013 A8L bought new and a 2021 Q7. The Q has had nothing other than routine yearly maintenance. The A8L had a sunvisor switch for the vanity light replaced under warranty and a new radio module recently installed after 11 years which is the first issue since 2013. Therefore, I submit that Audi’s are as trouble free as any other car and better than most. Service isn’t cheap but it’s not a cheap car.
Nice review! I have a 2021 basically the exact spec as this test car; agree with everything you said. It’s a beautiful well handling car but needs more HP’s and sound. Oh and these seats are a bit too narrow at the bottoms…with the internal mechanism rubbing my left hip (true I’m a big guy but not fat). I believe the optional seats with ventilation and air collar are more comfortable, though only come in dark gray. I’m coming out of an older AMG V8 convertible mind you so this S5 is way too tame in comparison (you were gentle calling it refined). To help remedy, I’m going to add a stage 1 Integrated Engineering software upgrade (450 hp) and remove the resonators in the exhaust system (nothing risking reliability long term). I need more power in the midrange and want to hear some engine sound above the wind, when the top is down. This stock “sport” exhaust system has no less than 5 muffler devises…ridiculous for a sport version. To be honest, a Mercedes C43 Cabriolet is a better all around car for my needs but I thought the look was a bit too feminine where the Audi is a perfect combo of sharp edges and flowing lines. The C63 is a better performing and looking car (wider fenders, bigger wheels) but aside from being much more expensive, gets poor MPG and isn’t AWD. The BMW 440 has that horrid buck tooth front end and was a little too tight in the back and trunk. BMW reliability is rough also.
I have the ‘22 A5 Cab, and it’s still a blast with less performance features than the S model. Backseat is more than functional (big bonus) as our grandkids love having Papou pick them up from school. Safety features are plentiful- just a joy to drive.

About the seats, with the sport seats, you get massaging instead of cooling seats! Also, if you get the round steering wheel, that indicates that its heated. The flat bottoms do not come heated... weird I know.
