Giving Wald a run for the money. Don't worry about weight limits. Down in Guatemala they put a family of six on a bicycle and put a weeks worth of groceries in the basket!
Nice !! That’s a good tip! I love making diy baskets / racks myself too (made a few how-to videos haha) , but yeah the manivelle is a good no fuss option
I’ve read in the instructions of my basket (local brand from Argentina) that you’re not supposed to attach it to a quick release, but to use the axle or a fork eyelet. They may be exaggerating but thought I’d mention it anyway. Edit: it actually says so in the Wald website as well.
Okay thank you ! I’ve made a rack that I’ve attached to qr before and had no problem after using it for months - so decided to do the same here. Of course I’m just one person so good to make your own judgement. If it becomes a problem I will get some spacers and connect them to the eyelet ! Cheers!
@@garysprojects Yeah, I don’t really see how it could damage the quick release, but it could have something to do with affecting the grip of the QR bolt and causing the wheel to slip out… which is far more scary 😨
I run my Wald on the skewer and I've never had a problem. Still I bet Wald isn't trying to get sued for someone under tightening and dropping a front wheel. Same reason a lot of bikes come with those wheel retainer clips now.
Rated for 10kg , I didn’t try too much than that , on my diy rack I could do 10 so I reckon this one could do way more if you really wanted to , feels super sturdy
@@garysprojects cool, I've got a basil portland front rack and it's also rated for 10kg, also rated for 10kg, but not sure if it's on a QR skewer, happen to have a spare solid axle, will go about trying to swap it with the QR axle in the hub
Okay sounds good ! Solid axle will be stronger for sure , l am lucky enough to have other (cargo) bikes if I wanna carry more stuff , so for me not too fussed with the QR
G'day Gary - quick one. Can you get these Manivelle baskets in Australia (suppliers / bike stores) , if so can you post a link, if not, wanna sell me yours? Please and thankyou.
hi ! sorry i dont think they have any stockist in australia , mine is not for sale but maybe send them a dm or email they might be able you work something out ! cheers
isnt the big front basket have bad effect on steering when loaded heavy? i thought rear mounted baskets are better...and front baskets are just the trend now
You’re right , but one huge benefit of having a front basket is that you get to keep an eye the stuff and notice if anything flys off. Don’t worry about trends , use what works for you
I have a front rack on my bike that I mostly stopped using because of how much it affected the steering. They make head tube mounted racks that seem like a better option, but probably only for smaller loads.
well i only saw patent drawings for this@@garysprojects it was a huge pvc pipe looking thing and large hose clamps holding two thick rods each side of the downtube, and it reached in front of the handlebar. well technically if this only exists in theory this could still be the "best basket of all time" but i mean there's still heaps of room for improvement. not necessarily thinking of hauling heavy loads, but being able to take a medium sized dog on the bike would need the basket not to turn with the bars. other than this, the brompton front rack, but that of course needs a special frame
@@markifi ahhh I see , I think this is manivelle one is def the best one out right now (imo) since it can fit on most bikes and well designed (looks function etc) but ya each to their own
@@garysprojects hey Gary- wondering if you ever felt slow with such an upright position. Although it's super comfortable, I just felt like I could not get any speed. I might try a middle ground.
this is probably the closest thing to perfection ever.. i've had the frame and stem and bars.. just never together. on these ones the trick is to route all the other cables in the other opening by the cantilever hanger point. makes for very close management even more important with a rack. same name IG I had posted a Mongoose Alta with the mts-101
cheers mate! i think routing it through that hole might make it a bit tight on the brake and gear cables near the headset no? but ya if it works for you, good stuff👍
@@garysprojects I did indeed have to give it a nice large S curve I've done one with all of them routed there and one with just the rear brake routed there because three cables jammed through was a bit much. I had a NIshiki build with a 1x but took it apart CBBO failure.. routed 2 cables there
@@garysprojects I don't think it's gonna draw many people's attention away from the important bits. 😉 On your voiceover there's quite some quantisation noise, though. I looked on the website, and it's got everything you need for travel. You can even get the basket bag no bad. 😊
Ya they make a lot of cool stuff I like the stem bag 👍
Hey there, imo it would be better to use the fork eyelets and just use some spacers to clear the fork, the qr skewer is not designed to carry load.
Cheers mate ! I will switch it out if I have any issues or get around to getting some spacers/longer bolts
Solid baskets. I have one in black and one in silver. I didn’t get any of the hardware or struts. Nice setup.
Yes! Super solid , the basket itself is quite sturdy. Happy with how it turned out , cheers !
Thanks Gary, Looks a great practical option !
Cheers Andy! I agree, no fuss at all 👍
The long straddle yoke will reduce braking. Drill brace and run yoke under or V brake?

Do these add on baskets work for every bike?
for most bikes yes, as long as you have the eyelets

im not sure but i think so
how much load can the basket take given it's resting on the quick release axle?
