Great music from a very important period for hip hop. I grew up in the 80's listening to the real old school, which was great but a high percentage of rap back then didn't have anything interesting to say other than boasting about being the best etc. (obviously there were exceptions, like Run DMC and Kurtis Blow's 'Eight Million Stories' and Jeckyll and Hyde's 'Fast Life' to name a couple). The 90's really heralded the introduction of widespread story telling and social comment in rap. Some great cuts here that really highlight how sophisticated hip hop became during this period. Lyrical skills improved vastly and so did the rhymes.
