With a couple of hinges on it, a little bit of screen and have it cracked open. You know that you can come up with an amazing idea and do a fantastic job with it.
You can take a piece of ribbon or twine and glue it to the back of frame and on the underneath of easel piece so it can't push out any further than the piece of ribbon or twine you put there. That should stop it from collapsing hope that helps

I would just take that bottom piece right off and glue/nail one of those chunky pieces of wood that you used in the fireplace, right to the back of the door,on the bottom.
