I believe the fact he was leaving London the following week has some significance. Had he been compromised, had he become a double agent, or a whistle blower? We'll probably never know.

I think that's the best way of putting it I've heard. Most people working for the secret service join up for the best of reasons and most politicians are not so bad (relatively) but there is the cabal of evil, the hidden hand.
No mistakes were made in this investigation. It was investigated exactly as directed to a satisfactory conclusion.

If he was disappeared, people could remain interested in reviving the case forever. If he is found and you make the public feel like he was somehow 'worth less' or brought it upon himself, or even did it himself out of a fetish most people don't identify with, he will become unimportant to people, and people move on.

Another questions that arises is did he shave his legs? Had I died the truth about this man nearly causing my death and my application to Mi5 and the subsequent stalking / intimidation I suffered would not have come to light.

The thing is, I would imagine that the computers that they use there are monitored to the point where even if you discovered something incriminating someone there would be able to monitor it and find out who accessed the system and when.

It's not about being too naive or trusting people too much. When you have piranhas or sharks after you, they have all manner of dirty tricks up their sleeve, if you are not accustomed to dealing with it then you would easily be gobbled up by them.
It's a bit like dealing with a bully, you have to be tough or else you get beat down every time, although this is different because you are dealing with cunning people whose main motivation is getting money, at all cost.

Some of these spies, they get so embroiled in their work, they won't communicate with you over a phone instead they will get on your computer doing their 007 bullshit.
