Honestly, one of the greatest single songs of the last 50 years... all time... Fu-Gees have a small catalog and made an ATOMIC IMPACT. The catchy, seamless flowwhether rapping or singing (*which they transition between with effortless beauty*) is so good it's nearly hypnotic.... seriously, they come across sounding so casual and effervescent, you forget you're bobbing your head and before long singing along with a group that LITERALLY SOUNDED LIKE NOTHING EVER BEFORE THEM. Together with Lauryn's solo record, these are 25 or so tracks that were so groundbreaking, and completely original that it RESET THE WHOLE LANDSCAPE OF HIP HOP FOR EVERYTHING AFTER. The Fugees were able to incorporate Marley's pop-reggae vibes and East Coast/NYC lyrical bops and patterns together with subtle but powerful R&B backing tracks and singing, whether choosing to find that groove in their hooks, choruses and reprises, or to deceptively switch to singing right between their 16 bars of hip hop storytelling. Every thing they did was as catchy and endlessly listenable as it was POWERFUL AND GAME-CHANGING. They gave the Rythym and Blues world a literal Blueprint of how to rap... they are the damn Beatles.
But they sampled helluva lot. Even on this song they sampled, at least, Teena Marie song. They did more original stuff, Hill did to be precise, on their solo projects.

To me, the break-up of the Fugees was a saddest moment in music history they changed the game on how people listen to music. And honestly why I love this song and this video is because they're having fun like nowadays music videos are so rehearsed down to the t like it's not sincere to me. In this video, they're smiling because music is their only enjoyment. Anyway, I'm not going to be one those people who say music is shit today but I feel like it does lack the sincerity that makes an artist an artist.
+Hannah Obsiye So true. I was just thinking about how they was joking around, being carefree and just ahhhhhh. They got me sitting here smiling along with them, because their happiness and positive vibes are so infectious. I really do miss songs like this.
+Hannah Obsiye Great Hip hop group but didn't really change the game. Not really sad, only thing Fugees brought other than great hip hop was Lauryn Hill. Wutang and NWA are hip hop groups that changed the game.
Their fusion of reggae and cultures did change the game. Added a new flavour, when I mean "changing the game" it doesn't neccesarily meaning changing Hip-Hop but just creating new styles furthering the genre. Hip hop seems to be in standstill, nothing new.
+Hannah Obsiye I know exactly, I used to love watching music videos but I try to watch these mainstream artists videos and end up turning the channel after about 1 minute the videos don't match with the lyrics or like you said they are too rehearsed.
Alot of people love to discredit *Pras* for his lack of genuis, but he was the surfactant in the Fugees. He was also the catalyst He was the glue, he was the tying of the knot, he was the street cred, and the edge. He was the born American and Haitian roots😅✈️ Edit: basically I'm saying he was the perfect amount of ghetto they needed to balance the twin poets😅 So he was equilibrium

This is one of the best rap songs evaa.... nothing compares to any of them.
Lauryn Hill is the most talented Fugee by far, she is the unprecedented Queen of rap.
Sorry Wyclef was...
@@hubertfenelon25 listen to mystery if iniquity by lauryn
@Poppy Kneegrow yup
Wyclef was more talented.
Sorry
Lauryn hill flow was crazy
trill gully2 and it still is, u don't lose that lyrical skill overnight! Do you?
I say the same thing!!!!! Her flow in this song is so sick! No one can compare.
Lauren Hill is wicked amazing
When it comes to these female MCs /Singers, NO one is touching Lauryn....still in 2020✊🏾
I think she is the best female MC to bless the mic, but c'mon she's by far not one of the best singers.
No one
Lyte comes close to me
True in the flow. But in pure rap style MC's Foxy Brown is more technik. But Lauryn is more complete in differents styles
Fugues are awesome but Lauryn Hill isn’t a good person
People forget that Lauren was also an actress. Would love to see her in a role for a Black Panther sequel ANY role lol
I loved her in Sister Act 2
Someone in 2024?🇧🇷

Lauryn was way deeper. Nicki no in the same class.

Yep still one of my favorite summer jams!
Yep still love this song as much as I did when I first heard it back in 1996 or 1997.

Lauryn Hill timeless voice..... #Beautiful
I get goosebumps any time I hear the chorus
In case they didn't know who started that shit!
Ms. Lauren was ridiculous! 💯
Gusthoff gutzshoff
I used to sing this chorus skating through Manhattan back in the day.. its ethereal 👌
I was born I. 1980 and was a black metal/punk aficionado...and then The Score by The Fugees came into my world. It's a better world. And I agree, Ms. Hill is a goddess.
Keep up the great work. One Love
The way Lauryn ride the beat is unbelievable!
Bro, at 15 I was the ONLY. White chubby kid at the Electric ballroom in AUGUST 96 with a lineup that featured Goodie mob, the Roots and the Fugees.
I must've heard busta rhymes The coming album in full twice over the p.a. loudspeaker while waiting on line.
Ill time to be Alive!! Wyclef came out in a jason mask playing 🎸... Super crazy
Beau Warren wow insane bro
Its something so classic and nostalgic about that little intro to the song. This is a 4ever classic!

It's my best part
EXACTLY!!!
Then comes that POWERFUL voice by WYCLEF 🙌🙌🙌
I miss these days, real music and it wasnt' about sagging and twerking,..
I don't know there were some pretty shitty groups about.
Spice girls!!!! ?
There's always been shit music around, and there's plenty (if not more) good music around today. Sadly the shit is just easier to find.
Stephen Myers lol I have to admit, some of their songs have a lot of nostalgic value for me hahah
John Romano yer me too, like the 1st time I realised that the music industry are bustards and my friends are easily brainwashed. Salad days ay... Full of joy
Bustards is clearly a cool saying let that one go ppl

Lauren Hill what a such great voice. It's August 2022 i'm still here listening this masterpiece!
Right with you.
👍 true
When people say a modern rapper is "the greatest of all time", I refer them to Lauryn Hill. She effortlessly does what modern rappers only imitate, not to even mention her singing.
Shiftless Lazycrat you know it. Wish she'd make another album. Miseducation is awesome.
Shiftless Lazycrat I have to say that I don’t think that she’s the best *rapper* of all time. But I cannot think of anybody, regardless of gender, who has such talent in both rap and singing.
So now go watch her take back the song she lent drake lol
Rai Car Missy is another that could rap/sing, but not like L Boogie
I mean, I'd still rate Nas in his prime over her, but she really is a great artist
Lauryn hill is the best female rapper of all time case closed no argument
Soooo true!
michael sawyer Bahmadia - 3 The Hardway
michael sawyer Thats right!
Peter Hardie masculine lesbians doesnt count! hahahhahaaa
michael sawyer dude is missy eliot is queen latifa there are manny girls on top
lauryn hill is way under them
Please dont write whos here in 2025, we never left Haiti sicilians alone
My gawd. Lauryn Hill was stunning. Her face, body, and skills...an anomaly. Unmatched period.
Lauryn Hill is just so authentic...Huge artist.
Z autentycznością, to ona nie ma nic wspólnego. Zasłynęła z krytykowania Kościoła Katolickiego za rzekome przestępstwa podatkowe, a sama kilka lat później trafiła za przestępstwa podatkowe do więzienia.
She can sing and rap. Tell me as a female who can do that and make hits after hits. Lauryn Hill is UNDERRATED in the music business.
This is nostalgia at it's finest🥺 imagine it's 1995, 7th grade, 12 years old....I use to jam this every morning while getting ready for school 😢💪🫶

lauren hill is the most natural black women ive ever laid eyes on, no weave, no skin bleach, no nothing, beautiful
Dwyane Rose back then nobody gave a f about skin color...yeah this group was all black but it didn't define them like it does with so many people now
@@talldarkhandsome8587 Agree
@@talldarkhandsome8587 Facts...we have definitely taken 100 steps backwards in this era. No talent and primitive colorist mindset.
Dwyane Rose and Lauren Hill hates white people too.
@@krissy7342 who are u that u know that she hates white people? seriously? why are so many people dumb in relationship of skin colour and spitting out some racist shit that nobody wants to know about.
I love them all, but Pras still underrated. Didn’t get as famous as Wyclef & Lauren
but richer than both of them put together lol
Yeah I always thought Pras was sweet too.

Hannah Obsiye ah ic I agree.
He was also the catalyst
He was the glue, he was the tying of the knot, he was the street cred, and the edge. He was the born American and Haitian roots😅✈️
Edit: basically I'm saying he was the perfect amount of ghetto they needed to balance the twin poets😅
So he was equilibrium
Wasn’t he a fed?
I grew up with fugees. Absolutely 💯 no one can take it outta me 🙌🏾🙌🏾
Can we plz appreciate how sick this beat is. Subtile, deep and wholesome at the same time. Got my ears addicted. Gem 💎

we the latino american black ppl don't forget either
well the world Is alright like this lol
The video was made in Jamaica
just saying
It's sad that music like this doesn't exist anymore
CONTROL of the industry is in the hands a few
@marathonlogistics9943 psst... stop relying on "the industry" music is more free to express itself than ever before. It's just not all on the radio unless you're in a metropolitan area and even then it will pale in comparison to digging around on your favorite streaming service. Great music is everywhere. Saying anything else is just old people shit and I am not being that old angry man this early on. lol I'm only 33, I got time to hate music.
How old are you ? Say this ? I agree . How old are you ?
@@ChadEudy you obviously don't know shit, old who cares. Creative control has always been manipulated, ask Lyor Cohen
