+Eddie Duggan I dunno... truths attributed to the Great Mohammed... "pick up a rifle, you must be strong... to take the title can be so long.... take the glory, steal the prize, only the hunter survives". Sounds like maybe some extremists would like to hear that kinda message. The music is amazing, but the lyrics make me wonder, especially in this climate of cultural clashes.
Listen to the lyrics... Extremists would point to songs like this as reason to mistrust ALL Muslims, or maybe even to 'take action'. When they say "Pick up a rifle, you must be strong", it's a safe bet Muhammad followers weren't talking about hunting the deer that run through your neighbor's woods. They aren't talking about self-defense. They are talking about hunting enemies, which the extremists would say are ALL infidels that don't follow The Prophet's teachings. In this day and age (ALL OVER THE WORLD, mind you), that's a scary mantra to put to music. ...so, yeah. Thumbs down for the lyrics. I DO like the music, tho...
+yawns smith; Perhaps. But just because they have made themselves more recognizable in the last 15 years doesn't mean they are a new phenomenon. This rhetoric has been brewing and growing since The Crusades. It took on renewed life when Israel won the conflict that helped establish their nation in 1948. Remember the first attack on the World Trade Center? The USS Coleman being blown up while in port, killing hundreds of US sailors? The barracks destroyed in Beirut, murdering hundreds of soldiers and Marines? All happening before this song was recorded and released. In fact, the argument could be made that this song is IN RESPONSE to such events. I am not prepared to support such a conclusion, but Radical Islam's influence is nothing new. I guess I would really love to know, from the artists who crafted the song, what EXACTLY inspired their choices for the lyrics. If their intent was benign, then the timing was unfortunate and subsequent events were EXTREMELY bad for PR and the legacy of their work. But if they were motivated by the views of the Ultra-Conservative Muslim movements, these gents have a helluva nerve releasing it in this country.

One of my fave shows ever at Syria Mosque in Pgh. Steve & Steve each did an acoustic set each by themself then went back, short intermission and then whole GTR band came out for the full show. They sounded awesome.
Where exactly was that? Sounds memorable..
@@frankjelincic2406 The venue is no longer there. It was in Oakland/Pitt Campus. Great venue.
When the Heart Rules the Mind is a good song but The Hunter is better.

I dunno... truths attributed to the Great Mohammed...
+Charles Holder WT?
+Charles Holder I believe you are making the mistake of judging something from the past, with a modern day lens.

Perhaps.
But if they were motivated by the views of the Ultra-Conservative Muslim movements, these gents have a helluva nerve releasing it in this country.
my dads got the record that has this plus when the heart rules the mind and many other of their best hits
I never heard this before, always thought it was an Asia track as I got it on a few Asia compilations from the late 90s.
Geoff Downes wrote it for an unrealized 4th Asia album that never got made
