Can you please check and let users know if having the heatsink makes any difference. Especially when downloading games on steam and copying games from an external SSD.
I've bought this exact drive and the (suckoo) adapter is on the way. If the temps are high and do throttle speed, this will guide people like me to whether or not a heatsink is needed.
Congrats. I hope it works as well as it did for me. It is important to remember that ssds only have a few temp sensors so you might be getting a false sense without a heatsink. The heatsink will absorb and spread, so the ssd will be more uniform in temp. Another thing I didn't mention in my video is the life of a drive can be drastically shortened by overheating. It will work either way but heatsinks ensure a better sense of tempature and extend the life of the drive. In regards to downloading games on steam if you have unlimited internet, normally the cpu uncompressing will be the biggest bottleneck. Least in my experience.
Just got my ally in the mail today! I want to do this mod but I don’t want to cut the back plastic and I don’t want the ssd to overheat. Is that an issue if I don’t put a heatsink?
Congrats on getting it. Gen 4 nvme really do need a heatsink for optimal use and longevity. Asus shouldn't void your warranty if that is what you are worried about. ( look into games nexus) There are some ultra slim heatsinks ok amazon you can look into that may work without snipping the back standoffs. Good luck and let us know if you find something that works.
I ordered a 2280 ssd for prime day and planning on installing a heat sink like you're doing for my rog ally. Is a 70x20x1.5mm still good enough for it?
hello, i just got the 3 items to do all this that's coming the next day .now when it comes to the part where you have cut the plastic on the backplate shell it is necessary to do that or is it a preference?
The title should really say "lower cost" I call bs on low cost storage lol. These things are still really expensive compared to any other storage medium.
Great video. I appreciate that you don't want to waste my time.
Thank you for the comment
Ssd with heatsink?then cutting back plate?if i dont use heatsink, do i need to cut back plate?
If your not using a heatsink you don't need to cut the backplate. Thanks for the comment.
Great vid, I like the heat sink idea. Take my 2 Thumbs up way up!
Thank you for the comment.
Thanks for your straightforward video.

Thanks for the comment. I saw a 14 degree drop in tempature.

can you compare the temps from 2230 to a 2280? Is it hotter or the same, tnx
I saw a drop of about 14 degrees.
hi .. i like to do this mod.. but i have qquestion.. can i use my corsair mp600 pro lpx on this mod? the one with heatsink
Thanks for the comment. No that heatsink will interfere with the back plate
@@StuballzTech thanks.. can you recommend me some good nvme for this mod? idc any prices.. i just the best compatible

Ya 100% better then no heatsink
today, the cheap ssd is more expensive than the Crucial
Dang, I am sorry about that. Thanks for catching that. I will add in a few other alternatives.
Do you think a heatsink with 3mm thickness would work? In my country we cant use amazon. Thank you❤
Yes for sure. You just need low profile. So much better then running without heatsink. Thanks for the comment
@@StuballzTech awsome. Keep up the good work😊
Does it still work? Is there overheating?
It still works great. No overheating. Thanks for the comment.

You will have to do it if you put a heat sink on your drive. Without a heatsink you just want to make sure the back panel doesn't contact your drive.
@@StuballzTech Thank you, also im assuming the heatsink in the video is 2mm? cause thats what i bought so it can fit in nicely
I highly suggest low profile. 2mm should work great
@@StuballzTech installed it, Works great more Storage for the next cod games
Ya it is easy enough I don't know why they ship that way.
What heatsink did you use?
I linked it down in the affiliate links. This is the slimmer one I referenced in the video.
What was the bit size of the screwdriver for the m.2 screw?
I used a size Philip's 0
@@StuballzTech Thanks.
thanks mate
Thanks for the comment.
I bought it, but i sold my ally and am waiting for the Ally X 😂
That's a great idea. It comes with a 2280 drive which is awesome.

Thanks for the comment. I will change that
👍
Thanks for the thumbs up.
This adapter for 2280 bottlenecks and drops FPS.
That's super interesting. Can you share your data? When I tested my read write speeds it was within margin of error for the drive.
