    Note:
turning off device encryption may take a few hours depending on how much you have on your drive.
Mine took 2 minutes, mostly due to being a fairly fresh device (exchanged due to sd card slot issue)

@@papolini109 I upgraded from a new Ally to a new 2tb ssd, so disabling encryption was fast, because of this I re enabled encryption, better to be safe IMHO. But I don't know how much stuff you have installed, I also upgraded to windows 11 pro just after the upgrade. I would turn it back on even if I had stuff filling up space before I upgraded.

Excellent tutorial, worked perfectly. A few notes I have are that the case is surprisingly soft. Even with a guitar pick I was bending the edges of the case up a little. The plastic isn't brittle, but a metal pry might be dangerous here unless you're very, very careful. Also, the power button is finicky with the Ally. I'm not sure if I accidentally pressed mine or what happened, but I suddenly saw the device was on while I was taking the case off. Maybe it wasn't completely shut down? I have no clue. It gave me a little fright that I had screwed something up, but in the end it was fine.

So the sd card issue is a hardware based issue? Is there any way to avoid it or not? I havent put a micro sd card yet since ssd s are so cheap and I got an adapter for the 2280 ones. 50$ for 1tb when i would have paid the same for 512gb of micro sd. @@TheAmanor123 Adjusting more aggressive curves for the fan might work. Additionally I installed a tiny heat sink to the 2230 nvme when I upgraded it -- it ”should” help with the overall heat build up. But 25-35W settings will create quite much heat so I would avoid long sessions with maximum power modes.
But to be honest: I haven’t followed this issue for weeks now. My Ally does not use microSD-card at the moment: 2TB 2230 nvme and a second 1TB normal nvme in dock when stationary. Im not sure if fitting a normal size nvme is a perfect idea: heat sink installation (which would cover the whole nvme) is not possible for those. I know those are cheaper, but….

So I started the decryption process and it hasn't moved for about 4 hours now... I can't seem to cancel it either. The Rog is extremely slow now because it's trying to do the decryption in the background.

It's been over 6 hours now and everything is moving slow and lagging. I've read that you can pause it by going to control panel and find the management settings there, but I don't see it. I get a prompt to upgrade my windows to the pro version to perhaps manage it.

It depends how much data, and how long You've been using it. Some reported 12 hours, mine took 2 minutes

Why instruct people to go through the hours long process of decrypting their pc when the decryption key is so easy to obtain? 3 minute fix vs 4 hour fix.

People can always do the encryption key way as well. It’s 4 hours for some yes, for me it took under 2 min for the decryption.

@@okestgamerI understand that this person is giving you a slightly shitty attitude but I'd say it's worth pinning a comment about this.
I started the decryption about an hour ago and it's only about 5% complete. If I'd known that this could be avoided, I wouldn't have done it this way...
      Great video btw 👍

I wonder if the boot order is messed up. You could check in the bios

What this DOES NOT TELL YOU is if your stock Ally SSD is mostly used up like mine was; expect 13+ hours of continuous runtime for Windows 11 Home to decrypt your device!
Missing this vital piece of information is just irresponsible of RUclipsrs like this because it didn’t happen to them and they don’t think to do actual research before posting a how to guide to ensure people fully appreciate what they could be in for…
Againzc if your Ally stock SSD has 400Gb+ of installed files; it WILL take 13.3+ hours to decrypt so be prepared to keep your Ally ON and running all day or all night.

13 hours is a little excessive. Longest I've heard of. Most have take longest 2-3 hours.
Its good you're a fan of research before doing a mod, you would have been well prepared for this one then, otherwise that would be irresponsible 😉

I mean its great to see what other people do but the best DIY is FAFO. You learn a lot more that way.

@@richardahlquist5839that's the best lessons learned. But if I mess it up myself, how do I blame someone else?
