    Note:
    turning off device encryption may take a few hours depending on how much you have on your drive.
    Mine took 2 minutes, mostly due to being a fairly fresh device (exchanged due to sd card slot issue)

      @@papolini109 I upgraded from a new Ally to a new 2tb ssd, so disabling encryption was fast, because of this I re enabled encryption, better to be safe IMHO. But I don't know how much stuff you have installed, I also upgraded to windows 11 pro just after the upgrade. I would turn it back on even if I had stuff filling up space before I upgraded.

    Excellent tutorial, worked perfectly. A few notes I have are that the case is surprisingly soft. Even with a guitar pick I was bending the edges of the case up a little. The plastic isn't brittle, but a metal pry might be dangerous here unless you're very, very careful. Also, the power button is finicky with the Ally. I'm not sure if I accidentally pressed mine or what happened, but I suddenly saw the device was on while I was taking the case off. Maybe it wasn't completely shut down? I have no clue. It gave me a little fright that I had screwed something up, but in the end it was fine.

    My decryption on the Ally took 70 mins with exactly 463 gigs used, out of 475 total available space. My legion go somehow had encryption disabled, I point this out because to me there’s no point on reenabling encryption. To copy everything to a 2280 2TB gen3 took about 20 mins.

      So the sd card issue is a hardware based issue? Is there any way to avoid it or not? I havent put a micro sd card yet since ssd s are so cheap and I got an adapter for the 2280 ones. 50$ for 1tb when i would have paid the same for 512gb of micro sd. I ll prob go for a 2tb when they re on special for 90$ but sd card could be great for all my emulators since they dont take that much space anyways

      @@TheAmanor123 Adjusting more aggressive curves for the fan might work. Additionally I installed a tiny heat sink to the 2230 nvme when I upgraded it -- it ”should” help with the overall heat build up. But 25-35W settings will create quite much heat so I would avoid long sessions with maximum power modes.
      But to be honest: I haven’t followed this issue for weeks now. My Ally does not use microSD-card at the moment: 2TB 2230 nvme and a second 1TB normal nvme in dock when stationary. Im not sure if fitting a normal size nvme is a perfect idea: heat sink installation (which would cover the whole nvme) is not possible for those. I know those are cheaper, but….

    The disable encryption step is stupid. This will take for more than a day and I dont think, I am able to stop this process.

    Why instruct people to go through the hours long process of decrypting their pc when the decryption key is so easy to obtain? 3 minute fix vs 4 hour fix.

    • @okestgamer
      @okestgamer  Год назад

      People can always do the encryption key way as well. It’s 4 hours for some yes, for me it took under 2 min for the decryption.

      @@okestgamerI understand that this person is giving you a slightly shitty attitude but I'd say it's worth pinning a comment about this.
      I started the decryption about an hour ago and it's only about 5% complete. If I'd known that this could be avoided, I wouldn't have done it this way...

    thats literally not a guitar pick FYI. it's just a pry tool.

      Yeah I mention guitar pick as some won't have that tool, so a guitar pick can serve the same purpose.
