I’m not 100% sure of whether or not you would have issues in another ally. Different bios and forward updates installed most likely. Plus the windows key might give trouble. I have never tried so I could be saying these things for nothing.
You would probably need to setup a new partition. Depends on how the old one is setup. If the old data was isolated to a partition that's extra it probably would work. I could be wrong though.
Great video and very informative. I think I'm just going to get a 2TB 2280 and a conversion just redownload everything. This is the cheaper option for me.

I would suggest it, sometimes the cloning process can take a long time and your battery die before it finishes. If yours doesn’t have much info on it, you could probably pull it off without a dock

Warning: This may get stuck or take literal hours to complete. So I started the decryption process and it hasn't moved for about 4 hours now... I can't seem to cancel it either. The Rog is extremely slow now because it's trying to do the decryption in the background. update: Yeah this sucks. I was in the process of setting it up for RMA (send it back to asus) to get my SD card reader fixed and I can't seem to find a way to stop this decryption process. It's been over 6 hours now and everything is moving slow and lagging. I've read that you can pause it by going to control panel and find the management settings there, but I don't see it. I get a prompt to upgrade my windows to the pro version to perhaps manage it. update: "FIXED" This may not be helpful seeing the subject of the video, but I was able to get it unfrozen by manually deleting most of my programs and games on the rog ally. I started with World of Warcraft and saw the bar move but then it got stuck again. I ended up deleting all my game files and folders, including shortcuts and after, it started to work. It took about 15 minutes to finish after the manual deletion of most applications.
The original one won’t boot either? You could always try cloud recovery instead. I have a video on that process as well, of course the bios versions are newer since then, but will still apply with the new bios
TIP: Keep the original 2230 nvme drive as is. So you can easily swap it back when you shipit back for microSD-card reader fix.. Cause we all know thats going to happen. I have done it once already. They will factory reset even the nvme in the service (when they swap new motherboard in) so swapping the original in, you don’t loose your data.
So the sd card issue is a hardware based issue? Is there any way to avoid it or not? I havent put a micro sd card yet since ssd s are so cheap and I got an adapter for the 2280 ones. 50$ for 1tb when i would have paid the same for 512gb of micro sd. I ll prob go for a 2tb when they re on special for 90$ but sd card could be great for all my emulators since they dont take that much space anyways
@@TheAmanor123 Adjusting more aggressive curves for the fan might work. Additionally I installed a tiny heat sink to the 2230 nvme when I upgraded it -- it ”should” help with the overall heat build up. But 25-35W settings will create quite much heat so I would avoid long sessions with maximum power modes. But to be honest: I haven’t followed this issue for weeks now. My Ally does not use microSD-card at the moment: 2TB 2230 nvme and a second 1TB normal nvme in dock when stationary. Im not sure if fitting a normal size nvme is a perfect idea: heat sink installation (which would cover the whole nvme) is not possible for those. I know those are cheaper, but….
Why instruct people to go through the hours long process of decrypting their pc when the decryption key is so easy to obtain? 3 minute fix vs 4 hour fix.
@@okestgamerI understand that this person is giving you a slightly shitty attitude but I'd say it's worth pinning a comment about this. The Nintendo switch's storage is integrated into the chip as far as I know. You can expand with the SD card slot though

I think it should be fine, I also left it off.
I was going to ask if I can turn it on again lol. I assume it wouldn't be an issue, but I'd rather not
One thing to note: after reassembly, it won't power back on unless you are charging the device. Don't be alarmed that it will take a longer time to finally boot to Windows the first time around.

It’s a rites of passage to have that scare. Happened to me as well haha

Strongly recommended, otherwise the device may die during the process

It’s more in case you run out of power, or if you need to manually update the bios. You could give it a try without, worst case scenario you throw your old ssd back in and try again later
Do you have to decrypt bitlocker before you do the install? For some reason the macrium reflect clone page won’t detect my new ssd in the enclosure??

Would cloud recovery give you all the same data as cloning? I am getting a new ssd and would like it to have all the same settings/apps and everything that my OG one has. New to PC gaming so any advice would help
Honestly the simplest method is cloning, hardest
Part (longest part) is decrypting the drive. You can also just enter your encryption key if you don’t want to decrypt it.
@@okestgamer okay, I heard the whole process of cloning using an enclosure is only like 30min?
It usually is, it’s the decryption that is the part that varies

@@okestgamer yes sir... I put old SSD to enclosure, and connect to PC, ITS not working..
Sorry the app didn't notify me of the message. Likely the old drive is encrypted so you'll need to do the decryption process on it
I have the exact same ugreen ssd enclosure but i don't have a powered USB hub. Will it still work? I need to take it back to the shop tomorrow because of the right joystick only moving up and down and no left or right.
It probably will work, the issue is making sure it completes before battery depletion. So make sure you’re charged up

Why does my 2tb only detect as a 512 gb
Most likely you have partitions that are in allocated. This should be easy to merge into your main partition. You can do this in disk format

Can i clone the ssd without deleting data to new ssd?( I have samsung ssd laying around and i want keep the data)
Best of luck man, I never tried that mod, was worried about the heat on the ssd due to being above heatsink. I know others have done it successfully though.
Yeah only time will tell. I can either wait for a cheaper 2230 or just get a 2280. I've seen people apply a heat sticker on the SSD but i'm not sure which side it should be on. I've seen a video and there was a lot of conflicted comments about the proper way to put it. @@okestgamer
I’ve been considering trying the mod for the hell of it with a spare ssd
Your enclosure didn't get super hot?
No I didn’t have any issues, there is also the thermal pad that can be added if needed.

@@josephrussell2316 the decryption process can take awhile depending on how much you have on the ssd and how long you’ve used it. It can take anywhere from 2 minutes, to 12 hours

How long does it take to Decrypt(disable bitlocker)? I started the process over an hour ago and only 3% have progressed.

mine only cloned its 500 gb and 1.3 tb are invisible
So my guess is that you may have missed a toggle to extend the partition. It's an easy fix though. Go into disk format (search that in start bar) and then select the main partition and you should be able to extend it or merge it with the unallocated portion (1.3 tb or whatever amount)
Can we just use an external SSD as a stopgap instead of needing to buy another useless gadget I will only use once?
You can use an external drive if you want to expand, I do that personally (mostly due to testing on numerous devices)
Hey man i just turn off my bitlock how long does it take to turn off??
It depends how much you have on it. It took mine 2 min, some have taken a few hours
Do u need a dock?
Strongly recommend it so you don't run low on power. Cloning on occasion takes longer than expected
How to add bitlocker back??
I'm pretty sure you return to the same settings menu where you disabled to re-enable.
Do you really need the dock to do the clone? I’ll need to save up some cash if so
I would suggest it, sometimes the cloning process can take a long time and your battery die before it finishes. If yours doesn’t have much info on it, you could probably pull it off without a dock
Is the Docking Station necessary for this clone?
It's highly recommended. If you have a full battery you may be able to get through the cloning without a dock. I've seen some cloning take a few hours, so that's why I recommend
@@okestgamer OK, great. I never thought of that. I purchased it but thought I might not need it after all. Guess I won't be returning it then. Lol

For me it took 2 minutes, so it seems to vary for each person. Others reported like an hour, but never heard of it being 6 hours
Thank you, I guess I'll be deleting all of my games before starting this process
I wish i knew where i went wrong. Had a coworker clone my drive and now neither drive will boot up
The original one won’t boot either? You could always try cloud recovery instead. I have a video on that process as well, of course the bios versions are newer since then, but will still apply with the new bios
TIP: Keep the original 2230 nvme drive as is. So you can easily swap it back when you shipit back for microSD-card reader fix.. Cause we all know thats going to happen. I have done it once already.
They will factory reset even the nvme in the service (when they swap new motherboard in) so swapping the original in, you don’t loose your data.
Yup until warranty is up that’s the wise way to do it
So the sd card issue is a hardware based issue?
Nice and smooth

Oh that's good to know, I hadn't tested that.
The disable encryption step is stupid. This will take for more than a day and I dont think, I am able to stop this process.
It depends how much data, and how long You've been using it. Some reported 12 hours, mine took 2 minutes
Best. Video. Ever.
Thanks man, I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Why instruct people to go through the hours long process of decrypting their pc when the decryption key is so easy to obtain? 3 minute fix vs 4 hour fix.
People can always do the encryption key way as well. It’s 4 hours for some yes, for me it took under 2 min for the decryption.
