Hi Josh! Not related to this video in particular, but that's your latest so I'll comment here. I wanted to say thank you for all those semi-advanced tutorials you made in the past and keep doing hopefully. Again and again, I find myself coming back to your vid library to watch and rewatch some. There is a big lack of Daz3d videos on YT about anything related to rigging, JCM, MCM, Geometry editing and correctly saving new assets. For anyone who wants to create and not just use the available assets as they are, your channel is a little gem I find :)
Awww thanks, glad the videos could be helpful! If you think of anything you would like more info on let me know and I'll try to get something worked up
@@joshdarling3626 hey :) Well if I had to request anything useful, I'd say a more thorough video about the process of making multiple JCMs, pJCMs, MCMs (different uses of the main corrective morphs) for an Original character full body morph. : abdomen bending joints, X Y Z rotations for the thighs, what if I want to mirror the morphs for the correction of the other thigh without going back to zBrush. I know the signs (+, -) of the axis change from L to R. Ngl, this makes my head spin lol :S , but I need to get around it. Big suggestion I know ':D Still just a suggestion, thank you anyways
Unfortunately it doesn't work for me. I followed your tutorial three times, but whatever VDB-volume file I apply in iray, the clouds or smoke are never visible
The two most common causes of the issue you are mentioning: 1) Density Multiplier needs to be increased (I've seen situations where it has to be increased to 1,000 such as with the OpenVDB "smoke2.vdb" sample) 2) The volume effect is trying to generate outside the bounding box of the mesh but you haven't properly disabled "Clip to Geometry". Make sure the surface group name is "Volume" and the option is turned off If those two things have been done and it still won't work try another VDB file. I know that some of the VDB files on www.openvdb.org don't work with Iray but in this video I use the one named "explosion.vdb"
Another thing to check out...We don't know what channels are included in VDB files. Embergen has a somewhat consistent list with their samples (density, temperature, fuel, flames, velocity_x, velocity_y, velocity_z) but I don't know what OpenVDB is using for a naming convention. Our system uses the first channel it finds in the file, which might or might not be the correct channel. Check the documentation of the site where you get your VDB files and find out what they use
Currently the bridge to Blender doesn't support it, but you could locate the VDB file and manually load it into Blender. To find the VDB file you can select the object and look in the Surfaces pane for the "Volume File" property. If you click the drop-down and go to Browse... it will open up to the location of the VDB Here's a video on bringing VDB into Blender: ruclips.net/video/40qmkj2pPso/видео.html
I downloaded the shaders from the OpenVDB site and followed along with your tutorial. But strangely when I click "Clip To Geometry" OFF it still stays within the boundaries of the original shape. I've tried it with several different shaped primitives as well as loading a figure and trying it on a figure. The "explosion" still stays within the boundaries of the object. I have downloaded the latest version of DS and updated my NVIDIA driver. Do you know what might be the issue, Josh? This is awesome, by the way! Thanks so much for the tutorial!
@@joshdarling3626 Thank you so much for this tip, I had no idea that renaming the surface would cause the clipping 💡 I had the same problem as 3Diva. If only I knew a single thing about the Shader Mixer, I'd love to see if I could get flames and blackbody radiation things going. Do you have a resource that could get me started?
Hello, that's a bit too much to answer in here. The simplest is to look at products that have walking animations. Especially useful would be ones that include animate looping walk cycles.
Hey there! Is it possible to achieve the same (or close) result as Volume Scatter in Blender Cycles? I'm trying to make the same (or similar) effect as in this video: ruclips.net/video/KacTST5t7T0/видео.html Thank you!
Thank you for making a quick and neat explanation. It is a step forward, for sure, hopefully DAZ will add support for animated VDBs.

Did you make sure to set the surface name to "Volume"? ruclips.net/video/MPQsifAT5B4/видео.html

@@WPguru We do have a basic intro to shader mixer, but no in-depth coverage unfortunately

Increased density to 800 now visible
Is there any way to get it animated? Importing vdbs one by one and render each frame separately is pretty frustrating idea..
Not currently, no.
Not working in DAZ but works in Blender
