Fantastic video - makes cleaning my new 2000 so much less daunting! I'm the kind of person who changes colour nearly every fill so cleaning a fountain pen out thoroughly is essential. Loving the pen so far.
Excellent video - complete, clear, and quick. This helped me to service my own Lamy 2000 and saved me replacing the whole barrel! My pen stopped pulling in ink (though the piston back-end seemed to twist normally). After watching this, I had the confidence I could remove the piston without breaking it as shown here. That revealed that over time, enough dried ink must have caused the black plunger to become sticky enough to be pulled off of the piston and get lodged in the barrel bore sideways. As in the video, I used a Q-tip cotton swab to push it out of the barrel, then rinsed the nib section and the barrel with water; it's amazing how much rinsing it took to remove all traces of dried ink. I also found that after re-assembling the first time, it drew in ink again(!) but not as much as expected. I dissembled and re-assembled again, and this time it seems to draw in ink normally at last. Thanks again for the video!
A great educational video. I love disassembly videos. We need more instructional videos on pen maintenance. They take the fear out of pen maintenance. I hope you continue this type of series. Again, good job.
What a great video. I did all the steps and can see the piston in the window moving up and down. However, it does not fill with ink. It sucks in a little bit, and when I turn the knob to empty it, it leaks where the ring is.
Thanks for your video and the emphasis on safe keeping of small parts. I recommend not to use cotton buds/Q tips in a fountain pen. They ahed cotton fibres that may get stuck in the capillary of the feed and interfere with flow.
Thanks Brian. On the SBREBrown disassembly video, one of the comments says that the clicking sound as you go past the usual range for the blind cap is bad for the piston threads, as in it can thread them. Should I take head of this? Cheers!

There is supposed to be a slight gap between the cap finial and the cap. To remove, you need a dowel to hold the inner cap in place while you unscrew the finial. You'll notice if you twist the finial, the whole inner cap and clutch rotate with it. A dowel or other similar device, held in place will prevent the inner cap from moving so the final can be removed, then punch the inner cap out with a q-tip.
Hello Sir. I can tell that after disassembling my LAMY 2000 a few times, I have observed that the first couple of threads on the plastic piston shaft/rod have been chewed up by the piston knob thingamabob. I strongly believe that the strange sounds that one hears while trying to disassemble the piston is exactly the chewing sounds from this destructive process. I would not suggest disassembling the LAMY 2000 this manner. I have a partially destroyed LAMY 2000; now it sounds strangely every time I try to fill the pen, and I am not sure if I will manage to get a replacement piston shaft. A HUGE disappointment, I can tell!!! I am noting that I have followed very strictly all the instructions available in RUclips (e.g., yours), and still that whole "catastrophe" happened. Do NOT take out the piston shaft, I would strongly suggest. That would be my advice folks.
