you deserve every bit of success you have Chris. i remember years ago watching you when there was just your mobile home out there on the farm watching what you've bilt has truly been a privilege. you're one of the main reasons i got into dirt work and now started my own company
This really brings back memories. i am retired and 79. In the mid 60’s I owned a tandem dump truck and was hauling gravel from a pit in Loveland Ohio and loaded under a shovel just like yours for several years before going into the service. I’ve watched you and Dirt Perfect for several years enjoy you both very much. Thanks for the fast back. Jim
I am so happy for you, Chris. You talked about this when you bought the property, and seeing all of it come to fruition is wonderful. The location where you are building that pole barn venue is gorgeous, and I agree that those trees are beautiful. Congratulations to you both and may you have loads of bookings.
My guess is that anyone renting the venue would also be renting the cabin. This way, venue noise is caused by the people renting the cabin. It is unlikely that a private cabin would be rented at same time as a large event at venue
Further commitment to using your old machines, and making them more than yard decorations. I definitely approve of that. It should give you a whole new appreciation for modern hydraulics and electronics when you're back to normal work. And even if you're digging up your hay field, you're at least keeping the topsoil handy for the expansion to replace that area, and the moos are helping generate organic matter to make more soil.
🇮🇪☘️🇺🇸 you are a visionary Chris , the cabin is gorgeous ⭐️ smart man getting himself set for the future and yep BAM BAM lolol does indeed go very well with Fred !!! ( flintstones) but they get the job done beautifully!! Blessings Chris!!!
I really enjoy seeing old iron still doing what it was built for decades ago. It’s slower and a lot less efficient than the new machines used today but it can still get the job done. I thought you were digging the clay to add onto your machinery shed. I remember you mentioned doing that several videos ago. I had no idea you were planning on building an event pavilion near your newly finished cabin. I think that’s a great idea
Chris I really like seeing you use the old iron. Not many creature comforts in the old iron. Back when machines were made of steel no plastic. I’m 71 years old still running iron and working on them. Keep practicing on that old iron and you will make a pretty good hand.👍 9:26
You are getting pretty proficient with that shovel. Makes you realize how much machinery has advanced over 40-50 years. I think you need to buy an old Euclid haul truck with a 6-71 Detroit engine to pair with the shovel and dragline.
Congratulations on expansion. Well deserved. I looked at yourvrates and theybare very reasonable, thank you for not making this out of a lot of peoples reach.vv😊😊😊😊😊
It's been a pleasure following you all these years & seeing the fruits of your labor pay off. Nice seeing that old iron working also, definitely won't have computer problems with them..
Chris one of the problems with the 977 was it had no counter weight if you had a full bucket and started to raise the boom and backed over a berm or rock she wanted to stand on her nose. First time it happened to me was feeding a crusher backed up over a big rock and she came up and scared the heck out of me. They were good machines ran one in early 70s feeding rock crushers😎
This is a real treat for those who appreciate this stuff, like myself a trained historian. You don't have to be the fastest just keep it steady and don't cause damage to the haul truck.
Yep I think that’s why back in the day track loaders used to do a ton of digging they were much more efficient at the time than cable hoes. When the first hydraulic hoes started coming around that’s when everything changed and track loaders started coming obsolete. Crazy to see the history and how far it comes. To think about in probably 50 yrs everyone will think the Current machines are dinosaurs and they’ll be running machines from an office. Crazy how things evolve I am huge equipment history nut well history in general is fascinating to me.
cat still makes rope shovels, draglines, and steel track loaders. if you go to their website for the rope shovels, you will see the following statement: Cat® Electric Rope Shovels are built specifically for removing large amounts of overburden and ore, at a fraction of the cost per ton. They still have their purpose, and it frequently involves the big haul trucks.
We went to Western Minnesota Steam Thresher Show a few years ago. They had an area with old equipment like that in operation, even had a steam shovel. Us guys spent almost a day watching all the old equipment dig and move dirt.
Heck, with a couple more days on that bucket shovel... you can take it to the next job ! Lots of the old-time logging roads in the PNW were built with an old CAT, a bucket loader, and a 5 yard dump truck. Looks like a half-yard load on the bucket.
Bet you're having a blast using the old iron it's got to be fun used to watch shovels like that was kid in 50s doing rd work Digging up rock off side walls When kid i had toy like that
That was surprising! Sad though, losing more farm land. The 330 is defiantly faster then the shovel. :) Betty for the win. :) Thank you and have good day.
You are really getting proficient in running your old iron, impressive,I remember you talking about building the venue area, back a few years ago. I was watching one of your old videos from 16 years ago, amazing what you have accomplished over the span of time.the shovel seems to be working out really well, amazing job for its age.cannot wait for watch the videos of the build taking shape, plus all your upcoming projects.just continue on doing what you’re mind comes up with.great video.be safe, less than a week before your down here in central Florida.👍👍👍😎😎😎
Yep, I knew it was gonna be some kind of building !! I remember when you was doing the Cabin , you said, something about it, building one down the road after the cabin was done !! Was pretty cool watching the Old shovel work !! Those Old Machines are cool as hell !! Got that pad looking good Man !! Great as Always Chris, Have a Great Evening, And, On too the Next !!
Those old girls are in their glory right now. They are feeling loved! Makes me think of Mike Mulligan and his steam shovel. Still have mine from elementary school.
All the very best with the Farm stay cabin. Thank you for taking us on your dream journey - this was a huge surprise. Will be wonderful to see it all come to fruition LetsDig18. The shovel does a great job given its vintage.
Use insulating wrap on your metal barn and roof. Keeps the metal condensation from dripping all over the place. You can get it in a thick white pad that reflects light and looks decent. Some use insulated bubble wrap with silver backing. I bought a place with a nice metal building, but they did not put insulation under the metal and it sweats and drips all over the place if you try to run heat inside. Also gets hot in the summer as sun heats metal up. Lighter outside colors also don't get near as hot as dark colors. Most weddings are Spring, Summer, Fall and non-insulated metal buildings can put you on slow bake.
Running that shovel sure makes you appreciate the accomplishments that our forefathers had building things like the Panama Canal (120 years ago) and such. Also makes you appreciate the modern equipment like your Volvo 220 or the 300. Still great to see the old iron still moving. Not sure that your 220 or the 300 will still be moving 50-80 years from now. Thank for sharing. Surprised you are not building the equipment shed first. I know that the venue barn is a potential cash income, but the cost of maintaining and preserving equipment seems a better investment. At least in my mine. Thanks for sharing. I hope all works well for you.
The picture of the cabin was just awesome! That old iron ain't dead yet. It did a good job, maybe a lot slower than the modern equipment you have. But, it got the job done. And just remember, 50 or 60 years ago that was top of the line, maybe not top of the line, but they were used to dig the foundations of buildings and roads of today.
I like the vintage iron. Make sure appreciate hydraulics if you had to run that for 10 hours a day. I’ve run that type of equipment before, but not very much but I have run it.
Looked on that airbnb site and saw a two bedroom house with garage in my neighborhood probably built in the 70's that was 900 for a five day stay, went by there one day and there was truck in the driveway from NC.. since then have seen a lot of vehicles from different states. Figure they come for auto ind.corporate training or something.
Hello Chris, Watching you and Robert working together is something else, He seems to be willing to help you with whatever you get up to. I wonder if he would help you fix Betty's 3 way bucket? Since you didn't use it I guess it's broken.
Love to see those old "steam" shovels. Even though it's not real steam. From 1st grade to 3rd grade we lived virtually on a road and Railroad underpass construction site (my father was the chief engineer). The Steam shovels were all run by the C&O and NKP railroads, the contractor used Clams and Draglines all this was sometime in the 1950's. First time my Mother put clothes outside to dry they came back coated dust! Had to get one of then new fancy electric clothes dryers.
60 years ago i got taught how to run a shovel like that by my dad at a north western ohio stone quarry. Shoveling lime stone on Saturday morning's was the best. I set on a milk box on top of the seat to see... lol
That will make you appreciate the new equipment . Man would go broke quick fast and in a hurry if he had to use that old equipment in this day & age Fun watching the old equipment brought back to life
CAT: Dense Clay or Cohesive Soil Padfoot rollers are the best option if you need to compact softer, more cohesive material. You should use a smooth single or double drum roller to compact dense clay or silty soil. A padfoot roller's protrusions knead materials to compact them tighter than a smooth drum roller could. I am so impressed Chris with your business mind and how you go about having a process for everything I'm impressed maybe that ain't saying much to you but I'm impressed I've had four or five businesses of my own I'm 65 and did quite well but I am truly impressed with your foresight

Love the house . Great view and fish the pond.
@letsdig18 Great price for the cabin hope to stay there sometime
you deserve every bit of success you have Chris. i remember years ago watching you when there was just your mobile home out there on the farm watching what you've bilt has truly been a privilege. you're one of the main reasons i got into dirt work and now started my own company
Yes, he does. Rare to see someone so young with the work ethic Chris has
Betty should go visit the guys at C n C for a spa treatment.
The way the door slams on the shovel you should call it BAM BAM
Yeah he seems to have a Flintstones theme going on with his equipment. But I gotta wonder where is Wilma? Lol

Wow... the new cabin and pond look GREAT..... WTG Chris
Nice to see the vintage iron doing productive work.
It's great to see that old shovel back to work. It really does need a paint job, though. Thanks, Chris.
Cabin over the pond looks good!
My guess is that anyone renting the venue would also be renting the cabin. This way, venue noise is caused by the people renting the cabin. It is unlikely that a private cabin would be rented at same time as a large event at venue
Correct
My father use to run a shovel for over 38 years just like that one. Brings back memories watching him run one.
I can remember my dad running this stuff when I was just a little kid. Thanks for uploading this video, man. It brings back lots of memories ❤🎉🎉😊
When you work hard, good things happen. Congrats.
That was fun to see the old dogs back at work! Thanks!

Great to see that old shovel still able to do a days work. Fabulous. 👍

Wow so many of us were wrong about what Chris is up to. 😂who knew.😊😊
Congratulations on expansion. Well deserved. I looked at yourvrates and theybare very reasonable, thank you for not making this out of a lot of peoples reach.vv😊😊😊😊😊
Yeah that is great it also tells us where it took so long to dig the Panama canal
It's been a pleasure following you all these years & seeing the fruits of your labor pay off. Nice seeing that old iron working also, definitely won't have computer problems with them..
Nicely done. Look forward to seeing the next project.

That old stuff drives me CRAYZAY! It so inefficient compared to today's stuff! But back in the day it must have been the cats MEOWWWW! 😱😁🤪😝🤣👍👍🇺🇸

@snowblowerman5115 you think the human race will make it another 50 years, ... you are an optimist! 😱😁🤪😝🤣👍👍🇺🇸
Beats the hell out of a shovel and wheelbarrow..

Chris does a great job of keeping his significant other out of his videos and that's awesome i think i really enjoy watching these videos.
Epic watching the shovel load up Barney 😂
Bet you're having a blast using the old iron it's got to be fun used to watch shovels like that was kid in 50s doing rd work
Digging up rock off side walls
When kid i had toy like that
I really do enjoy it
I counted 15 buckets to fill Barny the first load. 17 the second load. 10 with the skid steer.
Cabin looks great Chris. Maybe I can talk the wife into renting it for a weekend. Hope you have good Wi-Fi Id hate to miss a ld18 video😁
Nice video Chris. That was neet to see the old iron working some.
That was surprising! Sad though, losing more farm land. The 330 is defiantly faster then the shovel. :) Betty for the win. :) Thank you and have good day.
im clearing the trees on the other side of the farm to make more farm land back :)
That shovel is really working good now. I hope you can get it painted to protect her / him from the weather. Now you have a good one on the farm.
Can’t wait to watch the progress of the new building
Didn't see that coming!!
Your efficiency rating on the job is a solid 100% Today not so much. Love seeing the vintage stuff alive. Thanks for sharing.

They built the Panama Canal with that technology, steam powered rather than diesel though, that had to be fun in the tropics.

Congratulations on your new venture Chris! What a beautiful setting that will be.
Congratulations on the new farm project. Look forward to watching it develop.
If you keep finding ways to use that old equipment you will become proficient. Keep up the good work.
Appreciate the vintage appeal for the project. Makes for some great videos how our ancestors built this country. Thanks man!
Those old girls are in their glory right now. They are feeling loved! Makes me think of Mike Mulligan and his steam shovel. Still have mine from elementary school.

Love the video and thoses oldies too .Love to see that Building .
I ❤ your collection of old machines and seeing you having pleasure operating them, Keep up the great work Squire.
Great job 👍🏻 moving dirt with the oldies 0:28 love the sound love the Amazon truck pulling up to the cabin 9:12 love how you hit the truck

Best of luck on your new build knowing you it will be great 👍🏻🇺🇸
Looking good that old machine loaded up Barney pretty good. It'll be nice. Looking forward to the rest. 👍👍🙂🇨🇦
are you going to stock the pond with fish. i bet renters would love to have some fun trying their luck
Barney must think you're giving her half loads today
It reminds me of me, old but still works. 😊😊😊😊
Those Vintages Machines are history 😊 and awesome 👍😊 hello from Hamburg NY 😊 it's cold ❄️🥶 with snow ❄️
Great to diversify good luck with the new venture
Chris you may have a new niche doing work with classic equipment to show how it used to be maybe
Chris if it works out when Muddy Feet and myself come visit Bealy for the intro to concrete pumping we will check out the availability of the cabin.
yeah itll be a nice close by stay. let me know when or book the date so it does not book up
Great job, glad things are going well, get a patriot account and sell pavers with there name on it, they will probably pay for the building
I had an idea 2-3 weeks ago that the cabin would be a nice place to have a wedding, now the venue will be just right for the reception afterwards.
I like the vintage iron. Make sure appreciate hydraulics if you had to run that for 10 hours a day. I’ve run that type of equipment before, but not very much but I have run it.
Loving the video especially using the old equipment makes you appreciate the new stuff lol great job now just use the old d7 to spread the dirt
Cool video enjoy the use of the "old iron." Thoughts of days gone bye..
I think Diesel Creek would be proud of you , good job Chris, love what you do. THANKS.
Chris the cabin looks great across the pond awesome view

Somebody could do a children’s book about your farm and all the machines that you’re naming. I still think the grader should be called Wilma. 😊🥴
That old equipment took a lot longer to get the job done but still...gets the job done!😎👍
Your engineered skies at the beginning of the video are crazy

Это просто офигеть ,я такого ещё не видел в живую, просто супер.
Great job 💪🏼 Hard work and long days always pays off..!!

It's about time you gave that old shovel a bit of TLC before its rusts away.
Beautiful property. Love the videos and as always keep up the great work!
Enjoyed that my friend. Looks great. Might have to find time to come enjoy the cabin. Think i am 3 hours away. Thanks for the ride.

The old machines can also be moved close to the venue for props at an extra price
Good rate for all that's available. Google Earth has the cabin at the start of the framing and the dragline is parked up.
Nearly at 700K followers now 699 and counting 👍🏻
A runway would fit in there real well for fly in quests..............🛩
More things to do 😂 bigger isn’t always better!
Your channel is not just a collection of videos, it is a library of knowledge and entertainment. Keep taking us on this exciting journey!🏋️🌕♂️
Gday Chris glad to see you working on and making your invasion come to life
Wll Chris, since you have Betty Barney & Fred, you're gonna have ti name the shovel Dino
Dang great idea 👍👍🌴
but what equipment will we name Wilma !!!!!
A dozer and an off road truck of that same era would be nice to complete the set lol 🌴😎🌴
No he needs Wilma in there too.
