  • Malaysia's health ministry has unveiled plans to introduce a new tax on sugar-sweetened beverages as part of the upcoming budget. This tax, known as the SSB tax, builds on the previous increase from 40 sen to 50 sen per litre implemented in budget 2024. The initial hike successfully contributed to a 9.25% reduction in sugary drink consumption nationwide, underscoring the effectiveness of fiscal measures in influencing public health behavior.
