Since the beginning of mankind, we have seen mankind’s refusal to consistently progress by way of creating & implementing attainable positive societal changes. it’s almost like some people are severely allergic to the concepts of “equality & peace”, and those same people, throughout history, have caused irrevocable destruction to our present world & its potential.

In fairness, Truman took full responsibility for his actions " the buck stops here" is his original saying. Logistics projected an Vietnam type war (drawn out) with casualties higher than that of a bomb drop. Personally, I don't think the second bomb was necessary. Stalin was a psychopath who only respected force...Truman gave him force.

Another great episode. I love your spin on these recaps 🥰. One thing in the story that doesn’t get repeated is the fact that Japan was going to surrender. Given this there was no rationale to drop such a destructive weapon on so much of the population. And let’s not even mention the corruption that got this man elected 😒. All this to avoid things that should be basic equality.

    • @HisMajesty984

Actually the idea that Japan was going to surrender is inaccurate. Both J Samuel Walker in his book Prompt and Utter Destruction and Barton Bernstein on various journal articles rebut the claims of those traditionalists and revisionists. One of the top revisionist claims is that Japan was on the verge of surrender. They were decisively defeated yet the evidence is that the top military leadership was unyielding and desired the US forces to invade Japan.

Rumor has it that The Gap Band's '80's funk/dance hit "You Dropped The Bomb (On Me )" was dedicated to Harry S Truman, himself a rabid R&B fan and pioneer of '40's hip-hop (East Coast "hard style"). Seriously though, Stalin was an utter psychopath. Like Hitler, he viewed compromise as weakness. Truman realized this, and dealt firmly with Stalin. I seriously doubt it involved gender issues. Stalin was skilled backstabber, having his main rival Trotsky axed to death in Mexico and consequently killing millions. The rationale of dropping the atomic bomb was that logistics projected greater casualties with conventional warfare as opposed to abruptly dropping a bomb. The Japanese were overall willing to die for their country, as evidenced by the kamikaze and bushido tradition. Personally, I find it hard to justify the second bombing involving Nagasaki. Great video as always.

  • @ed4416
    @ed4416 2 года назад +8

This is inaccurate to the point of egregiousness. There is so much historical inaccuracy that the video even lacks entertainment value.
I can’t criticize every point made about Truman. I admittedly know little of his early life. But I know enough about WWII’s Pacific Theatre to say that the knowledge here on the war is practically non-existent.
    Okay, to begin:
The Soviet Union does not deserve this level of heroic reverence. While it is true that the majority of Nazi deaths were at the hands of the Soviets, you are also completely omitting the conquests of Fascist Italy, Vichy France, and all German actions on the Western Front. There was plenty of fighting against Fascist forces outside the Eastern European Theatre.
Moreover, Stalin was no hero when the Nazis were pushed back to Berlin. He did not liberate Eastern Europe- he conquered it. Poland, once a free, found itself turn from Nazi control only to Soviet occupation. And it stayed that way for three decades- just like Austria, Hungary, East Germany, and the Baltics.
Stalin may have been as evil as Hitler. Just look at Ukraine, where he killed millions in a forced famine.
Also, what’s this nonsense that FDR had to be a middle-man between Stalin and Churchill? The Soviets and the British were cooperating before the US even entered the European Theatre of the War!
Okay, then there’s the atom bomb: what you don’t know is that it is debated among historians if Truman personally authorized its usage on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, or if it was the decision of a general in the Pacific Theatre. I don’t know if it’s true, but the fact this is debated makes it unlikely that he “bragged” he had an atomic bomb.
Moving on: Stalin certainly did not question Truman when he revealed he had the atom bomb at the Potsdam Conference (you misspelled and mispronounced it): because Stalin knew FDR was backing the Manhattan Project. It’s pretty well known that Soviet spies were reporting on the atom bomb to Moscow. In fact, it’s largely believed Stalin knew of the atom bomb before Truman did.
Your knowledge of Japan’s conditional surrender offer to the Soviet Union is also lacking. The Japanese did not solely ask that their Emperor survive: the negotiations never reached the point where they could make any specific one demand. We will never know what exactly Japan wanted in a conditional surrender, but it was rejected because the Allies did not want a repeat of World War I’s Armistice with Germany, where the Germans were allowed to negotiate their terms and then abuse those terms to create an even larger World War just two decades later.
What you are confusing this with is the post-bombing surrender Japan offered the Allies: after Hiroshima, Nagasaki, and Manchuria (I’ll get to that last one in a second), only then did Japan offer to surrender with the one condition being the Emperor being left alive. Which Truman did agree to.
How is it possible for you to make a video on the ending of the Pacific Theatre and not know that Emperor Hirohito survived the war? He was spared by the Allies and ruled Japan for another several decades. He wasn’t in Hiroshima or Nagasaki, either. His palace was in Nara, and Tokyo was the capital city. The Imperial family still rules Japan: Hirohito’s grandson currently rules.
And on the topic of the Emperor: I cannot understand at all your bizarre pitying of the Japanese. You made it sound like the Empire of Japan was a victim, solely wanting to keep their “like Jesus” god-emperor. The Imperial Japanese Army committed far more evil acts that even the nuclear bomb: look up the Rape of Nanjing, where more civilians were killed than both atom bombs combined.
I also find it completely implausible that only 250 Japanese soldiers were stationed at Hiroshima. The island had literally millions of Japanese soldiers ready to fight off a seemingly-inevitable landing of Allied troops.
And one last detail: you left out some crucial facts when you said that the Soviets were willing to help fight the Japanese, so that the atom bombs weren’t needed. At Potsdam, Stalin did agree to help Truman. Truman accepted the aid. But Stalin stated he would join the war in the next 90 days… he waited until day 89 to attack Manchuria, which was Japan’s puppet-state ally in northern China. That’s hardly the Soviets being willing to pitch in their part to defeat the Empire of Japan, now is it?
And because I just can’t help but correct your asinine amounts of inaccuracies, here are some extra small details:
-Truman was in the Senate for longer than Obama was when either of them pursued the White House. There is plenty of precedent to go from Senator to President.
-Truman also had his face on Time Magazine, as did Hitler. There is no reason to believe Stalin was “loved” while he was on Time Magazine.
-The Soviet Union would have sent a FOREIGN Minister to the US… not a PRIME Minister. These are the equivalents of Secretary of State and President, respectively.
-Stalin was initially Hitler’s ally. They collaborated to invade Poland.
This video is just… so bad. So, so bad.

I liked it. Go Cyd! All history is perspectives anyway. Depends which side you're on. Pick a view and defend it loudly and staunchly. 200 years after you're gone, the view will likely be completely different. Shrug.

Giving people initials as names must not have been that uncommon back in the day. My husband's first name is just the initials M.C., and it was passed down from his father and grandfather (who was born in 1918). As far as we know, the initials don't stand for anything. 🤷

To over simplify things. Had this dude not grown up being beaten down and ridiculed daily, he would not have the need to prove his manliness to all of the world by committing one of the most world altering war crimes, and society would be radically different in a way we will never know. That's what toxic masculinity did to this guy. It's mind blowing.

Hirohito, the emperor of Japan, was not killed and was emperor until he died in 1989. So there was absolutely no reason to drop the bomb except to send a message to Russia that we had the bomb. That was the point. The people of Japan were just collateral damage.

Now I have never heard of this Harry Truman in my entire life put it this way when it comes to American presidents I know very little apart from the last four. And I know a bit about some of them a little bit before like JFK, now Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton a very tiny amount about his presidency, and Nixon. So the other presidents I'm not really familiar with you would even think I would at least know Theodore Roosevelt but no. Ironically here in Jamaica we actually have a resort named after Franklin D Roosevelt.
