I'm so glad you are covering this, our country's history (and therefore the world's) would be so different if Henry Wallace had been VP when FDR died. We were so close to a better timeline!
Sliders TV show taught me that we are the best timeline.
@@neyedol you’re probably a straight white person
We would have lost WW2 if Truman wasnt there...
This is so amazing. I've never heard this part of the story told, just the bombing of Pearl Harbor. This was enlightening.
Amazing thank you
I can't be the only one who get so excited when I see a notification from Cydnee🥺❤️

So happy to see you are back. Keep your head up and take care of yourself. Do what makes you happy! We are here to support and love you 😍
Since the beginning of mankind, we have seen mankind’s refusal to consistently progress by way of creating & implementing attainable positive societal changes. it’s almost like some people are severely allergic to the concepts of “equality & peace”, and those same people, throughout history, have caused irrevocable destruction to our present world & its potential.
Yes, I've been paying attention to politics and social issues for years and I agree 100%. Healthy people naturally improve and fix problems but a certain dysfunctional type of human is frightened by change, all change, even when they benefit from it personally.

Omg you're back!! Just the other day, I was wondering "What happened to the beautiful history lady on RUclips?" Nice to see you again. Your videos are so funny and I always learn a lot!
Edit after watching: Wow, that was BS what they did to Henry Wallace. And the people wanted him!! Ugh, so ridiculous.
Yes! I was just losing hope for RUclips today and here you are gorgeous 🤩 I love your history talks 💚
" He wasn't supposed to be the president, he wasn't supposed to be a senator, according to his mom he was supposed to be a girl"! Literally was dying when I heard this. I'm going to find some way to use this to talk about toxic men, thank you for that Cyd! Made my entire week 💖💖💖
I’m a history professor and mama, your analysis was flawless. The haters don’t know!
Now every time I hear Harry S. Truman, I'll be thinking, 'and the S stands for nothing' 🤣
They taught this to me VERY differently in school. I’m freaking shocked they left out these details and painted it as America fighting to end a war
Just love your humour - and your story telling skills with such animation, enthusiasm and appeal. You made my day. Welcome back.
“He was just vibing” 😅
This is such a fire, unique idea!!!! Face card never declining. Make up GIVING! The history is "HISTORY'-ing. I love it here. Let me go get caught up on the others ones lol.🥰

The DNC did this to Bernie in 2016 too. History really does repeat itself
What the F*&^ what this?! Don't get me wrong, I learned through every moment of this video. But I never knew much about Truman (American here ;_;), and this was the guy that green-lighted dropping nuclear bombs & absolutely altered the course of human history? YIKES
Thank you Cyd, take care
Yikes is right. It goes to show you that some men would even risk destroying the PLANET to prove one’s masculinity.
In fairness, Truman took full responsibility for his actions " the buck stops here" is his original saying. Logistics projected an Vietnam type war (drawn out) with casualties higher than that of a bomb drop. Personally, I don't think the second bomb was necessary. Stalin was a psychopath who only respected force...Truman gave him force.
Another great episode. I love your spin on these recaps 🥰. One thing in the story that doesn’t get repeated is the fact that Japan was going to surrender. Given this there was no rationale to drop such a destructive weapon on so much of the population. And let’s not even mention the corruption that got this man elected 😒. All this to avoid things that should be basic equality.
Actually the idea that Japan was going to surrender is inaccurate. Both J Samuel Walker in his book Prompt and Utter Destruction and Barton Bernstein on various journal articles rebut the claims of those traditionalists and revisionists. One of the top revisionist claims is that Japan was on the verge of surrender. They were decisively defeated yet the evidence is that the top military leadership was unyielding and desired the US forces to invade Japan.
I love you video. I would to learn more about The Japanese intermittent camps that the Use had during this time as well. Most of us Americans don't learn about it unless we see it in a show. SO SAD.
Cydnee posting a Makeup & History video has got to be the best birthday gift ever! Love you Cyd! Glad to have you back! 🤍

Some of my favorite history breakdowns ever! 🙌
I had no idea about Wallace. Could you imagine how different we could be if he had been nominated like he deserved?
@Piper Hope not the world would be even more woke today if he was elected. Woke is more dominant than the ideas they are fighting against.
@@luddesteen2253 Fighting for basic human rights is not being “woke”. Stfu.
@@luddesteen2253 Also, he wouldn’t have done what Truman did to Japan.
There is always more to the story. Be sure to always conduct additional research.
I was waiting for your come back to this series and you uploaded at the perfect time. I’m alone this weekend and I’m having extreme anxiety. Thank you for uploading this so I feel like I have a friend to listen to while I don’t have to talk back. We love you and appreciate you Cydnee!
Hello gorgeous and smart! 👋🏼 Haven’t seen you lately. I agree about Truman. There had to be a more humane way to end the war with Japan.
You should honestly open your own history podcast, Cyndnee. You're extremely talented at storytelling as well as you do your make up. Best support and Love ❤❤❤
The Queen 👑of History, Mystery, True Crime and Makeup is back 🤩🙌🙌
Ahh im screaming! I LOVE this series and been waiting for one 😭😭
I typically enjoy your videos, but more research on this topic would have served you better.
Oliver Stone is not known for insightful (or even truthful) analysis.
My favorite series on RUclips! 🥰 I would love a video on Eleanor Roosevelt, as you said, she was a GODESS! 😄
So glad to see you back. Great video. That's just sad. This explains a lot about the political parties. Harry S. Truman needed therapy. That's North America for you, all minding someone's business.
Glad you're back! Im born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. One thing I can tell you about Pendergast is he had money and the mob. Truman had better done whatever he said. Kansas City never saw prohibition. Pendergast was a crook. And not to be played with.
I love your Makeup and History videos!! I would've enjoyed learning this way in school!
I will add, after Potsdam the die was already cast. It was either use the bomb or sacrifice a million plus people with Operation Downfall. I’d hate to have been in Truman’s shoes making that call.
Exactly. Killing less millions to save more millions. Still wonder if the second, Nagasaki bombing was necessary, though. Truman was dealing with a psychopath in Stalin. Stalin viewed compromise as weakness, so Truman's firm response was the correct one.
Absolutely. There is a lot more nuance to this than the Oliver Stone "documentary" provides.
I love this channel but my heart sank a bit seeing that Oliver Stone was a source.
Bots do spin don't they?
@@trudyhawley1373 what?
Henry Wallace should have ran for President in 1952 (but then again, if he was elected, they would have offed him like Kennedy was offed).
It’s sad to think about a President Wallace… no 💣… no Cold War… American prosperity that is distributed to the people, not military industrial complex… the US and USSR cooperating in rebuilding Europe and in tech research…. maybe no Reagan... I’m sure something would happen to set us back, but this alternate history sounds utopian
Best “Makeup and History” episode thus far…‼️

Hey Cyd, I just wanna say thank you for doing what you do. I’ve been having a rough couple of days amidst a rough couple of months amidst the worst of time of my life. I felt so alone just now I just wanted to give up on everything. And then I had a last min idea to see if you’ve posted - and you did :) so thank you for being my friend when the silence got a little too loud.
This is so interesting, I just watched The Time Element by Rod Serling , its about a man that thought he was living in the wrong time, he thought it was the year 1958 but really was 1941. So on that episode, he mentioned this to the news reporter along with making a prediction that Harry Truman will became the president because Roosevelt dies also warning people about the Pearl Harbor. Its a very fascinating episode with a twisted ending.
Hi Cydnee, welcome back! I'm so happy to see you doing what you like again! As a non american who love to learn the world history, your videos are really interesting to me. Easy to follow, entertaining and educational. Keep up with the great work! Thank you💕
Rumor has it that The Gap Band's '80's funk/dance hit "You Dropped The Bomb (On Me )" was dedicated to Harry S Truman, himself a rabid R&B fan and pioneer of '40's hip-hop (East Coast "hard style"). Seriously though, Stalin was an utter psychopath. Like Hitler, he viewed compromise as weakness. Truman realized this, and dealt firmly with Stalin. I seriously doubt it involved gender issues. Stalin was skilled backstabber, having his main rival Trotsky axed to death in Mexico and consequently killing millions. The rationale of dropping the atomic bomb was that logistics projected greater casualties with conventional warfare as opposed to abruptly dropping a bomb. The Japanese were overall willing to die for their country, as evidenced by the kamikaze and bushido tradition. Personally, I find it hard to justify the second bombing involving Nagasaki. Great video as always.
So what’s the difference between Stalin and Mohammed Bin Salmon?
@@josephheston9238 I don't know anything about the latter. Stalin was a narcissist and a psychopath. I don't think he cares for his people or country.
@@eriksturdevant6857 Mohammed Bin Salmon is the dictator of Saudi Arabia (a country that is leading in human rights violations). They will behead anybody for almost anything. Stalin is lightweight comapred to him.
@@josephheston9238 I'll research that! Stalin killed over 10 million in his gulags, slave labor, rap, human experiments, to include the attempt to create a human ape hybrid. Hard to top that.
Ok , i'm not an American but i can give a reason why you laughed . A similar situation exist in the White House in 2022. You see the irony .
Cydnee, I am glad you're doing what we love best. We missed you.
Wait wait wait… you forgot to jump in the Time Machine 😆
Damn I had no idea that’s pretty frustrating to think about how different everything could have been if he didn’t use that bomb. Always love this videos from you!!
I would be very, very leery of taking Oliver Stone as a primary source of information. He's nuttier than a squirrel feeder.
This is inaccurate to the point of egregiousness. There is so much historical inaccuracy that the video even lacks entertainment value.
I can’t criticize every point made about Truman. I admittedly know little of his early life. But I know enough about WWII’s Pacific Theatre to say that the knowledge here on the war is practically non-existent.
Okay, to begin:
The Soviet Union does not deserve this level of heroic reverence. While it is true that the majority of Nazi deaths were at the hands of the Soviets, you are also completely omitting the conquests of Fascist Italy, Vichy France, and all German actions on the Western Front. There was plenty of fighting against Fascist forces outside the Eastern European Theatre.
Moreover, Stalin was no hero when the Nazis were pushed back to Berlin. He did not liberate Eastern Europe- he conquered it. Poland, once a free, found itself turn from Nazi control only to Soviet occupation. And it stayed that way for three decades- just like Austria, Hungary, East Germany, and the Baltics.
Stalin may have been as evil as Hitler. Just look at Ukraine, where he killed millions in a forced famine.
Also, what’s this nonsense that FDR had to be a middle-man between Stalin and Churchill? The Soviets and the British were cooperating before the US even entered the European Theatre of the War!
Okay, then there’s the atom bomb: what you don’t know is that it is debated among historians if Truman personally authorized its usage on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, or if it was the decision of a general in the Pacific Theatre. I don’t know if it’s true, but the fact this is debated makes it unlikely that he “bragged” he had an atomic bomb.
Moving on: Stalin certainly did not question Truman when he revealed he had the atom bomb at the Potsdam Conference (you misspelled and mispronounced it): because Stalin knew FDR was backing the Manhattan Project. It’s pretty well known that Soviet spies were reporting on the atom bomb to Moscow. In fact, it’s largely believed Stalin knew of the atom bomb before Truman did.
Your knowledge of Japan’s conditional surrender offer to the Soviet Union is also lacking. The Japanese did not solely ask that their Emperor survive: the negotiations never reached the point where they could make any specific one demand. We will never know what exactly Japan wanted in a conditional surrender, but it was rejected because the Allies did not want a repeat of World War I’s Armistice with Germany, where the Germans were allowed to negotiate their terms and then abuse those terms to create an even larger World War just two decades later.
What you are confusing this with is the post-bombing surrender Japan offered the Allies: after Hiroshima, Nagasaki, and Manchuria (I’ll get to that last one in a second), only then did Japan offer to surrender with the one condition being the Emperor being left alive. Which Truman did agree to.
How is it possible for you to make a video on the ending of the Pacific Theatre and not know that Emperor Hirohito survived the war? He was spared by the Allies and ruled Japan for another several decades. He wasn’t in Hiroshima or Nagasaki, either. His palace was in Nara, and Tokyo was the capital city. The Imperial family still rules Japan: Hirohito’s grandson currently rules.
And on the topic of the Emperor: I cannot understand at all your bizarre pitying of the Japanese. You made it sound like the Empire of Japan was a victim, solely wanting to keep their “like Jesus” god-emperor. The Imperial Japanese Army committed far more evil acts that even the nuclear bomb: look up the Rape of Nanjing, where more civilians were killed than both atom bombs combined.
I also find it completely implausible that only 250 Japanese soldiers were stationed at Hiroshima. The island had literally millions of Japanese soldiers ready to fight off a seemingly-inevitable landing of Allied troops.
And one last detail: you left out some crucial facts when you said that the Soviets were willing to help fight the Japanese, so that the atom bombs weren’t needed. At Potsdam, Stalin did agree to help Truman. Truman accepted the aid. But Stalin stated he would join the war in the next 90 days… he waited until day 89 to attack Manchuria, which was Japan’s puppet-state ally in northern China. That’s hardly the Soviets being willing to pitch in their part to defeat the Empire of Japan, now is it?
And because I just can’t help but correct your asinine amounts of inaccuracies, here are some extra small details:
-Truman was in the Senate for longer than Obama was when either of them pursued the White House. There is plenty of precedent to go from Senator to President.
-Truman also had his face on Time Magazine, as did Hitler. There is no reason to believe Stalin was “loved” while he was on Time Magazine.
-The Soviet Union would have sent a FOREIGN Minister to the US… not a PRIME Minister. These are the equivalents of Secretary of State and President, respectively.
-Stalin was initially Hitler’s ally. They collaborated to invade Poland.
This video is just… so bad. So, so bad.
Wow….what channels, sites or books would you recommend for more historically accurate information
You could have summed that up with, "I won't go say anything your actual sources, which you listed, so I'll attack the messenger instead" and saved yourself some keystrokes.
@@maiat5643 Her sources clearly sucked, and I blame her for not doing better research.
Thank you! Oliver Stone's "documentary" is not a credible source for WWII.
I liked it. Go Cyd! All history is perspectives anyway. Depends which side you're on. Pick a view and defend it loudly and staunchly. 200 years after you're gone, the view will likely be completely different. Shrug.
Yyaaayyyy!!!! You're back! ( Not: surfing to his mom he was supposed to be a girl) I'm hollin🤣
Truman was an industry plant before industry plants existed 🤦♀️😑😂
Giving people initials as names must not have been that uncommon back in the day. My husband's first name is just the initials M.C., and it was passed down from his father and grandfather (who was born in 1918). As far as we know, the initials don't stand for anything. 🤷
To over simplify things. Had this dude not grown up being beaten down and ridiculed daily, he would not have the need to prove his manliness to all of the world by committing one of the most world altering war crimes, and society would be radically different in a way we will never know. That's what toxic masculinity did to this guy. It's mind blowing.
Hirohito, the emperor of Japan, was not killed and was emperor until he died in 1989. So there was absolutely no reason to drop the bomb except to send a message to Russia that we had the bomb. That was the point. The people of Japan were just collateral damage.
Thanks for commenting quite interesting.
That awkward moment when the fate of the entire world lies on the shoulders of one man's toxic masculinity.
Now I have never heard of this Harry Truman in my entire life put it this way when it comes to American presidents I know very little apart from the last four. And I know a bit about some of them a little bit before like JFK, now Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton a very tiny amount about his presidency, and Nixon. So the other presidents I'm not really familiar with you would even think I would at least know Theodore Roosevelt but no. Ironically here in Jamaica we actually have a resort named after Franklin D Roosevelt.
I wonder how different the world would be with Henry Wallace as President after Roosevelt
Thanks for coming back. I enjoy you work immensely . It has been a refreshing change.

I'm liking Henry Wallace's values right about now. He kind of stood for socialism and equality.
No, they did not kill the Emperor, and when Japan surrendered, Truman ended up letting them keep their Emperor, in fact I think its that Emperors grand son who is Emperor right now, but dont quote me on that

And to think, the democratic party is still playing these games. Truman was the worst president in our history. We could have a much better country had Wallace been president. I hate this timeline.
