I went to high school with her...she’s always intelligent, well spoken with a sweet enduring spirit. I’m so happy she’s accomplished so much!

Remember that many extremely unique & accomplished persons with disabilities come from extraordinary homes, where the parents treated, demanded, & encouraged their children to do what all children without disabilities can do. So, they do that, & then they far surpass most people!

She probably learned to speak like that because it's easier for her to hear higher frequencies.
@@cristian-bull higher frequency likely means she only really hears above 1000 hz, albeit very faintly. Her voice is just naturally high pitched. It's also likely that's she's speak with a sorta whisper/faint voice, due to decibels being redundant
I am curious to why her annunciation is so well done.
I noticed that she doesn’t seem to use filler words such as “like” or “um”, just pauses occasionally when she’s gathering her thoughts. a product of not hearing other people’s stutters, maybe?

It's a skill that people teach you for professional speaking, or presentation! To avoid "um," "uh," "like," "well," and just pause. My old manager was very firm on it (I'm a receptionist). It's a good habit to get into! (or out of?)
I think maybe it's a thing we so for the rhythmic of the sentence. As hearing people we don't realize how easy is for us to get understood and complicate ourselves more than necessary.

It all start at home. Her parents didn't treat her as a disable person n make her do chores... Made her exercise her abilities and be productive, and cooperative at home. If we all did that, this would be a better country.

What an inspiration! Her disability is really an ability. She's proof that we all should never let anything hold us back from persuing and living our dreams.

Yes! Lots of disability advocates like to think through the lens of disability = differing abilities
It's true, but she clearly also has amazing parents. The way kids are raised to believe in themselves and their skills and the support they have in their community often makes more of a difference than the actual disability. Unfortunately many people are not nurtured and grow up bullied or diminished and having to be afraid and it's very hard to bounce back from such experiences no matter what the potential is.

I find it extremely impressive that her speach is so clear. It must be a crazy amount if work to learn to speak when you can't speak and can't even SEE someone speak to imitate it.
For certain. While lip reading is only about 30% accurate, it is part of the multifaceted approach to learning speech when one does not have the sound perception necessary. Vibrations, learning the shapes of sounds (jaw, mouth and tongue movements) are other critical components. But, speech isn't everything. Language is what is critical, and that comes in many forms.
Her speech is so beautifully lyrical and articulate. I love how descriptive she is in her speech with touches and smells; she's remarkable!
She is so funny, and bursting with intelligence. What a great lady.

First of all, most dislikes non-controversial videos like this one are an accident, it's just normal that on a poll of thousands of people 1 % will, by accident, click the dislike button. However, disliking a video doesn't mean that you hate the content or persons in it. We can't let a one of two options digital click be an indication of something so complex as human emotions. Liking or disliking something is not important because it's a stupid way of measuring anything, imagine living in a dystopia where clicking one of two button express who you are, yea its scary so stop trying to live in that world.
My son is visually impaired and I pray everyday that he will have a purpose and be someone despite his disability. These stories give me hope for him, she is really remarkable and even graduated from the best school. Reminds me of Helen Keller.

First of all - please stop praying for him to have a purpose as he does have a purpose in his life -
Instead of praying for him to be someone despite his disability Start excepting his disability and praying for him to continue been a healthy vision of himself mentally and physically- by except the right support in his life despite opinions of others
Secondly , be more supportive with his decisions right or wrong - let him learn from it regardless of his disability
The best way to raise a child with disability or behaviours is tough love balance with soft love
God rewards those who helps themselves in addition to prayer. Pray for guidance on how you can be the best parent you can be for your child so they can succeed. Pray that God will show you ways on how you can help and to show you resources that you and and your son can use. And while you do that, look for videos on RUclips to see what you can do, you never know what you might stumble upon. Pray for strength even if your son ever feel like giving up because of his disability. He will need you to be there for him if times get tough, just like for any other child. Prayer alone without action is nearly meaningless, it practically just becomes hope and hope doesn't do anything. The lady in the video did not get where she is without her parents' support and guidance and that is something you need to do for your son. Do all you can for your son so he can succeed, anything that is out of your hands leave it up to God.

Simple and straight lesson that encourages people to really do what they want and make it happen.

I remember when I read the story of Helen Keller who suffered the same condition and also went to university. St the time, no wireless equipment. This lady is now graduated from Harvard. What a huge step and work

Yeah it’s ok to struggle, this woman’s successes don’t have any bearing on your ability to help your child. There are a lot of resources out there, websites, videos, people etc to help you.

She is a the first deaf-blind person to graduate from HARVARD specifically, but deaf-blind people have been attending college and graduating for a long time.

I’ve always wondered how deaf and blind people were able to learn and adapt to this world but never really did the research. The fact that she is so smart and speaks so fluently and professionally is so inspiring!

I am also deaf blind just like the young lady you have on your stage right now.. And I use a interpreter for all my doctors appointments. And I also read braille. And I am a Guide Dog Users for 25 years I used a cane since I was knee-high to a grasshopper I was born blind in the hands of my birth mother and I lost or started losing my hair up at the age 11 no I don’t have Usher syndrome I went blind because my birth mother left me in the car with the windows rolled up in at six months old I rolled off the seat in two plastic and I suffocated did some brain damage and left the blind my hearing loss I believe is somewhere my hearing on the birth side of my mom. But for me to do sign language I have to do tactile. So with everything that this beautiful young ladies telling you about deaf blind as it’s true we are also on the spectrum of deaf blind or deaf blind don’t hear and see the same.
Hi Ineko Gary this is maybe an ignorant question but I am just wondering, how do deaf and blind people get taught how to read brail or tactile? If someone is just blind then they can be taught verbally, but if you are deaf and blind how do you learn?

What a fantastically swift communication between Haben and her interpreter!! The whole process of typing and reading doesn't have even a full second of delay after her interviewer has spoken!
Haben never takes her eyes off her interviewer when reading, and she is able to perfectly answer right away after she's been talked to; if I wasn't so mesmerized by the interpretation and its apparatus being presented at the start of the exchange, I wouldn't have even noticed it was taking place at all.
Definetly a wonderful team work.

After listening to beautiful Haben, i realized how little we who are complete do nothing with our potential... We'd rather do nothing than get ourselves uncomfortable trying to get better... I'm inspired and I'm gonna push myself to do things i otherwise wouldn't have done!
If there is a will, there is a way. Haben was born with a powerful Brain that never accepts defeat. Besides, the word" impossible" is not in her dictionary.
In my opinion she's genius level! What a wonderful method of communication! From her explanation, tactile absorption is an alternative way to communicate via technology. Brilliant! I just love who this lady is and all that she brings to the table.
