There is no need to remember the short trick for second case because sin^2 x can be changed into cos^2 x and after this the first trick can be applied

Remembering both may be confusing as numerator and denominator are opposite in each case..
I don't think so bcoz sin^2x=1-cos^2x...so in denominator we will get -ve cos^2x but method is applicable for +ve
