Great video. Just removed broken air vents and replaced with a 'new' old air vent. Video was on point and very helpful. Thanks!
How did you re install the clip that holds the cable in place?
Thanks for the video

When removing this can it disconnect the radio ? After taking it off my radio fm/am skips could this be a loose connection ?
I have a 1998 e39. That center wheel that controls the temp, the center wheel with the blue for cold and red for hot. Well, I'm dealing with, when I put my wheel all the way cold, where it's the three blue dots, the wheel doesn't stay, I'm getting tension from it and it pulls itself too the 2 blue dot, when I'm trying to put it to three. I hope you get what I'm saying, anyways. Do you think its because of the cable? Too much tension or something? I dealt with it before, but it honestly fixed itself and that was 8 months ago, give or take. I'm not sure if I just ducked taped that shit to stay on the 3 blue dot then, took it off cause it just looked ugly.
dude my 2003 e39 m5 is having the EXACT same problem and I can't find any info about it online. please let me know if you find a solution!!!
Me too can’t move the dial. I close the vents and use the backseat one to cool the car
Mine is F up too lol
Good informative video just to confirm does the centre vent lights up on ignition ?
Helpful, thanks. Still out there? I bought a nice 97 540i, played with the dial in the middle of the center vent and all of a sudden the entire vent is loose at the bottom (no tabs). But it doesn't want to come out entirely. Cable still attached I imagine. What's my next move? Thanks!
Unit if broken so you can just use some force to take it out. However, purchase replacement and once you receive it, you can take your old air vent out. check out our website for e39 parts www.bimmermerchant.com
So what issue did this fix for you. Mine is hard to roll my heat and cold come out mixed. I get cool air from left side regular from right. If I need heat I get no heat up front but definitely get heat from the rear vents. Let me know your thoughts. Please and thanks in advance
That blue cable that he was talking about latches onto a piece of plastic back there that opens and closes the flow of cold and hot air. Most likely yours either broke and needs to be replaced or it has become loose and needs to be put back in place. I had the same issue. Sure enough that cable had snapped.
Very helpful, thanks for posting!
Your are welcome

How do i remove the vent that cools the backseats? I have a BMW 3 series.
I just popped it out gently with a flathead screwdriver on my e39 if u have cup holders maybe take them out first they come off easier then the vent is easier
