    I'm making fangs with thermoplastic 😂
    I bet it's really common to want fangs sence childhood 🤣
    But I know this feeling, it was really weird and 🤢 when it in your mouth, it's like mud and a weird smell like taste with mud. At least it was in my experience idk if others use a similar formula or just different mix

    The alginate sets within a couple minutes depending on the type of alginate you buy. Alginates have different set time so look on the packaging, it should say 3 minutes or 5 minutes etc. You can also check the alginate left in the bowl after mixing or on your spatula to see if it has set. It will be firm and not sticky or mushy.

    Hey there. Nice video tutorial. Out of curiosity, do you re use the dental trays afterwards ? if so, how do you sterilise them ?
    Thanks to answer.

    • @EggHeadFX
      @EggHeadFX  4 года назад +1

      Hi, You can't sterilize these plastic dental trays, they are disposable and for one time use. In the past before covid. I would clean them off really well and then put them in the dishwasher- wash on the pots and pans setting since it is the hottest setting of my dishwasher. I felt that if dishes are clean enough for people to eat off of than my dental trays were clean enough. I would say to you and everyone else... use your own discretion.

      @@EggHeadFX Thanks for the answer. I was wondering because some people on another video recommanded to sterilyse them (they were disposable trays as well). Also, for anyone that do have dental works (mostly amalgam repairs and fillings) is the alginate safe enough for those teeth or is it too risky to attempt the imprint in that case ?

      ***** Hi Wayne,
      The Teeth acrylic is called Jet Acrylic. Usually purchased at the same place you bought the pink powder. It comes in several different shades, the higher the number the darker the shade starting at #59. Examples: (light shade) #59 #62, #65, #66, #69 etc. (darker shades)

    Plaster of Paris wasn’t working. Obvs so I bought some that is “5x stronger” but the package says it’s not hydrocal. Are you familiar with Perfect Cast? Should I just toss it out or give it a try?

    • @EggHeadFX
      @EggHeadFX  4 года назад +1

      Yes I have mentioned several times on this channel to never use plaster of Paris for molding or casting. It is garbage and only used for children crafts. I don't know anything about perfect cast. Hydrocal is more of a dental stone. Look for dental stone in your area, even ask a dentist where you could purchase it. Dental stones are very hard and gives excellent detail. Sometime you can find hydrocal in pottery shops they use it for castings. It often goes by two different names: Hydrocal White or Hydrocal B11. Good luck :)

    Hey! Sorry if you have answered this before but how do you clean the plaster mold after its gotten hard? Specifically, at the gumline between the teeth if something is left there?

    • @EggHeadFX
      @EggHeadFX  4 года назад

      You can't floss between the plaster teeth if that's what you are asking. You can gently scrap away anything like air bubbles or food particles that have left impressions in the plaster have the person brush their teeth before you cast their teeth.

    • @mylodic
      @mylodic 4 года назад

      Egg Head FX thanx for responding! Yea I know that you can’t floss the mold lol. Just wanted to know what you used to chip the bubbles away in a way to not damage the mold. I assume you have to do that carefully? What do you use to scrape it off?

    • @EggHeadFX
      @EggHeadFX  4 года назад

      @@mylodic Depending on what plaster you used. I use Hydrocal white it's nice to clean up. If you use Ultracal it is a bit harder. Some other stone type plasters are even harder to clean up because they are super hard and about all you can use on them is a dermal tool. But for Hydrocal I use a sharp sculpting tool or a X-Acto knife to clean up rough spots. And to fill in holes I will paint on wet plaster with a soft brush.

      +$^^OKE$VV!FT I don't know. I have never made real gold teeth. You might want to ask a gold smith or others who work with this material. These videos teach you how to create props. You can't even eat with these character teeth in. The material is not designed for that sort of thing.

    • @goindiggn
      @goindiggn 8 лет назад

      +Egg Head FX For sure, i am just beginning and doing online research at the moment. From what I can gather, 'grills' or gold teeth are usually made by heating up and softening and shaping a gold sheet around a mold of the teeth (like what youve made, the plaster). What I'm just wondering is if the plaster stuff is fine or if i would need the stone (harder) stuff to mold the gold on top of.

    whats the difference in time with the regular set and fast set

    • @EggHeadFX
      @EggHeadFX  7 лет назад +1

      Depends on the brand of alginate and the temperature of your water. The warmer the water the faster it sets. So on average fast set can be any where from 1 minute to 3 minutes and regular set can be any where from 3 minutes to like 5 minutes. Fast set alginate is best for casting teeth. If you want to cast a face then regular set is best with cold water so it could take up to 8 + minutes before it starts to set. There are special alginates just for casting faces, so it mostly depends on what you have access to.

    How long, with the fast setting alginate, do you wait before taking it out?

    • @jensenthom
      @jensenthom 9 лет назад +1

      Fast set alginate takes anywhere from 2 to 5 minutes depending on water temperature and temperature of the room etc. The package usually tells you how fast it sets. I usually feel the alginate left in the bowl to see how it feels to know if it is set. If you really want to know before you use it, take a teaspoon of alginate and some water mix it, let it set. That way you will know what it really feels like before you use it in a mouth. :)

      The only ways alginate would stick to your teeth is if you had braces on your teeth. But you would still be able to tear the alginate away. And the second reason for sticking to your teeth is you are using something else besides alginate to cast your teeth and if so I can't help you. I don't understand what you are asking, you didn't give enough information in your question.
