However, brother Ismael has apologized and clarified that he didn’t know this person or how his presence would be used for propaganda and he apologized for it. I'm from the gulf and I know how these things go, I'm 1000% positive that Mufti Menk was tricked into attending not knowing the motive behind it. He was never into politics and he clearly admitted he didn't even know that guy who got introduced to him. I certainly can vouch for Mufti Menk. He's a good man. So you actually bow down at people's feet when you polish their shoes, which could be taken figuratively as giving into their authority. He says "so many of them are surrounding only one customer", which means that there are many"polishing the shoes" of one person/figure. i.e. many are bowing down to the authority of this one person who is the Jewish rabbi. He's talking about the Arab leaders or whoever's Arab that appear in the video when he says "smiling shoe shiners in white". "Famous tongue polisher" might be a parable for Mufti Menk.

When you learn about Islamic history, you will find that this so-called "Imam" was not the first of his kind.

That iftar was a big mistake but I don't think that Mufti Menk was aware who the guy was. As the prophet says, we should always think the best of our brothers. Especially when it is someone who has done so much for the Ummah like Mufti Menk.
