That is a general! Notice he had his head down on the first part of the question (cut government spending) where he was listening, as soon as he hears "pair of helicopters" he snaps his head up (pissed off - how dare you) and then comes the stare as he formulates his snappy reply. Now imagine your George Patton and have been called in to face exactly that. Wonderful clip.

They were all jealous of Patton but at least Eisenhower refused to do without him in the biggest war in history and where mastery of open-field tank warfare was key. You see, per the D'Este biography, Ike spent a fair amount of time alone with Patton discussing armored tactics in the inter-war years. This occurred when they were assigned to the same fort or in other occasions when their paths crossed. Patton was "the man" on that topic in those yrs and Ike learned all he could. He wasn't a total ingrate.
Bradley was the real jerk, working behind Patton's back with Eisenhower to undermine. I don't think Patton ever realizes that Bradley wasn't his friend. Kind of irritating to me. Pettiness is a terrible thing, especially among the powerful.

He's the one who commented that Mac didn't salute on the Wake Island meeting during the Korean War. A president can choose to face the media if he wants to.
But most presidents are too busy to take time out to listen to a bunch of reporters ask questions that the vast majority of them already knew the answers to anyway.
And let me tell you something else. If you don't think a president can look somebody abuse me a person in the eye and lie to them I got news for you. They can they have and they will.
I don't care what political party they are. There are certain times that you have to basically hold back the truth even from your closest ally.

It's fun to see Eisenhower get snippy and we're reminded that he understandably had reason to, whilst Allied Commander in Europe. He cultivated the confident reassuring grin but he had a lot on his plate. But I do like that unblinking side gaze. I think the journalist may have been trying to be playful and we can hear some of his colleagues laughing. Kennedy could have rolled with this. But the age of media savvy and then, media mass manipulation hadn't quite come yet. Dear Ike, he was quite a man.

I was born in July of 1996! Army Captain 2017-2019 Afghanistan! I am a moderate democrat, and I like Lincoln, Twddy Roosevelt, Dwight David Eisenhower! Those guys were Presidents! The 5 star General still exists! It's just no one has attained that rank in 50 years! I went from second Luitenant, to First Luitenant, the to Captain! For the people that are not military here, then ranks are as follows: Above me, Major, Ltd. Colonel, Colonel, Brigadier General, Major General, Luitenant General, and Just General ( 4 stars!)

Ike had it so easy compared to Truman. Ike's brother Milton, a long-time washington insider, acted like his press agent, was an advisor, and really educated Ike about how to conduct so much of his presidency. The economy was not great, average 2.5 % growth, when much of Europe and Asia were devestated and we were the worlds shopping mall.

I think the usual image people have today of Ike, is of this sort of grandfatherly figure. Who did nothing to "rock the boat", and tried to get along with everybody. But he was also an army General, and he could be "gloves off" on occasion. In this instance here, he could just as well have been telling some subordinate commander "You WILL take that enemy position! Thank you. That's all."
