this whole mk1 sucks situation is starting to look like political government talk. instead of directing our attention on WB and NRS we’re all distracted pointing fingers at “shills” and brown nosers, exactly what WB and political bodies alike want. we have to stop talking about each other instead of the actual issue before it’s just a shit race and WB/NRS just gets to continually ignore us. If bigger MK creators were honest and truthful about the game and didnt constantly make excuses for objective bad game design and clear incompetence, audiences wouldnt go looking for guys like Fate. As simple as supply and demand. And supply of TRUTH in the MK community is fucking low while the demand just keeps going up and up.
well, big content creators literally lie to you and scam you by overhyping the game and hiding its problems! Fate has done way less harm to mk fans and customers than big content creators

But the biggest content creators have been critical and honest about this game though. Super, Dynasty, Maximallian Dude, Trueunderdawg and Bruskpoet have been open about their criticism. Even the pro players have talked about it. Tweedy, Ninja Killa, and Shujinkadink have been critical. I don’t understand where these comments saying that these mk creators arent being honest come from when from what I’ve seen, they’ve made videos talking about the problems in this game.
Fate knows his audience. He throws in political dog-whistles a lot, and prefaces a lot of his "friendly" comments on other players as "soy drinkers". Everytime he has to concede a point, to the more knowledgeable player, he seeks to undermine them in this way. Although it's never done in real-time, but on his follow up video.
He wants his supporters to believe the old arcade competitive experience, the foundation of fighters, is in fact "new school". That fighting games have somehow been hijacked by a "softer generation". It's disingenuous, and ironically targets the new generation specifically, as the people actually there at the arcades in the 90s, know fighters have always been the antithesis to "participation trophies".
Online fighting games hurt a lot of egos. Those who embraced the arcade mentality, and are the backbone of the scene, are often derided by the outliers. Who largely played one player, or had little competitive experience outside of a small family bubble.
They're a little like Syndrome in The Incredibles. Harbouring animosity, from a sour experience when they stepped out of their comfort zone, and got humbled by a stranger in the arcade...Aiming to change the narrative, and redefine the healthy competitive streak of the still has us enjoying these games to this day, as a new, "tryhard" mentality....The mental gymnastics to reconcile this, do take some serious work.
The thing I like about Fate is that he is being honest, yes he can be rude and yes he makes mistakes but he is calling out bullshit from NRS and WB (like Jaded Rabbit and TotalMK)
And Honesty is important for feedback, buttlicking the devs will go nowhere.

The state of MK is embarrassing thanks to NRS and Warner Bros.

Hey Mike, wonderful video as always with the honesty. My question to you and Fate if you see this before the podcast, Actually 2 here "At this point, ((Should NRS unlock all the locked content that was suppose to be at launch? Secondly, "Should Kameos be removed completely from the game?")) in a last ditch effort to save MK1, which I know won't work at this stage. Just from lack of communication from WB/NRS community managers, in which I feel they should be replaced with someone who will communicate.
Thank you, dude. I don't think Kameos should be removed even though I'm not a fan of the system, however I'd prefer if they never come back in future iterations. Unlocking all of the content or putting it at a heavily discounted rate would certainly help to sway some of the negativity surrounding the game, although WB are too money hungry to do that.
I’ve found this channel and I started listening to you this week and I genuinely respect you a lot and i immediately subscribed. I love Mortal Kombat. It’s dear to my heart for a lot of personal reason. I have a lot memories since I was kid. Even with its very grave issues, I still love MK1 just because it’s Mortal Kombat. But, I agree with a lot of things you have said in the past videos. And for the most part, I feel like a lot of community feel the same way. I don’t know where these comments saying that MK creators aren’t being honest about the game when I feel like they have been pretty critical of the game. Dynasty, Max Dude, Super, Trueunderdawg, Bruskpoet, hell even Uncagedgamez. They all made videos about their criticisms towards this game . I would know, I’ve been following these dudes for years and I watch their videos a lot. The problem with people like FATE is that they make assumptions and insults without even bothering to actually learn about the other content creators that’s why he was dismantled quickly by f0xy and Brusk. He is just bad faith and the worst part is that he’s a grown ass man. But Aside from all that, yeah this game fumbled HARD and I truly blame WB. WB hasn’t just ruined MK but other games and even other properties. They are greedy they are bad faith and they just suck. Again, props to you and the content you make and how you carry yourself! I’ll keep on listening.

I'm just upset at the state of Mortal Kombat. It's in my top 3 franchises along with Dragon Ball and Godzilla and to see MK in such a state annoys me.

WB only cares about sales and NRS only cares about sales b/c they get a double bonus every year. So, there's no incentive to improve the gameplay meta or modes, netcode, etc b/c it sells well. So, STOP preordering games, STOP buying MTXs, STOP buying the game until it is confirmed that it's a complete game.

While I agree with you Hollow that you don’t need to know everything about a game to be able to criticize it, FATE doesn’t even begin to know what he’s talking about with the game at all. From not knowing what release check is to up block to he “just doesn’t like people that big combo on him” he isn’t capable of having a legit conversation about the game and his only reason for being relevant at all is because of his nonstop trash talking of the game and other big name players or content creators gave him more attention than he ever deserved. Good luck with him in your talk. I am truly expecting you to destroy him and make him look like a fool in the process.
I also agree with the new UFC games as well, they've been abysmal lately.
Also I do Muay Thai, I can't get in the ring and like knock out someone like Alex Pereira or Saenchai for example but I'm able to analyze techniques and see what a fighter does wrong and what they do right, the same applies to being in the fighting game space and not playing the games but seeing what works what doesn't and if the mechanics suck for example
Sir, I was with you until you got to the “shill” argument. I like the twins content and they absolutely love MK. HOWEVER, they obviously have a relationship with NRS/WB. They get invited to the events, test the games, get early access, etc. They (like others on YT) are reluctant to criticize or just outright ignore issues with MK to maintain their relationship with these corporations. That my friend is a shill. You don’t have to be on payroll to be one. Overall good commentary.
I think shill implies a deliberate attempt to say things that one doesn't actually believe. The word has a lot of association with deception and faking opinions for personal gain.
I think using the word shill for someone who is subconsciously less critical of something than they might otherwise be if they didn't have a stake in it, is a bit harsh and not really a fair descriptor of someone's character.
Obviously I don't know K&M and my comment isn't about defending them, but just to make the point that having a stake in something and commenting more positively on it, doesn't necessarily mean that "shill" is the most accurate word to use to describe someone.
@@burni988 that’s a decent point. My argument to that would be that influencers by definition are shills. Not speaking on the obvious issues is deceptive by nature. This has been going on since MK11.
WB did so much scummy practices to promote MK 1, especially with it being Exclusive to the next gen consoles only, not on PS4 and XBOX ONE, so that made MK fans and fighting game players actually take the next step financially to buy those consoles just to play MK 1.
They even had a horrible looking Nintendo Switch version too.
When they waste all that money to just play a game that’s not all the way finished and incomplete is very very misleading and terrible what they did to people, especially during their stupid Kombat Kasts where they hyped the game up and kinda lied about a couple things just to get people to buy their unfinished game.
Some people even paid a lot more for the premium edition too, imagine that as well as having to buy a PS5 or XBOX One just to play that game??

I've really been enjoying your most recent commentary videos. But ur take on Fate was pretty spot on. I will never understand how he built a community on baseless claims. Many of his claims r easily fact check able and neither him or his community can do that.
saying you automatically tune out when someone starts only talking about a diagnosis and no solution doesnt make any sense because in every area of work whether its science, video games, mathematics. The solution is ALWAYS found within the diagnosis.

I loved the game since 3 , bought this on launch, played the campaign with my cousing and left. Everything around this kameo stuff feels odd to me. If i play fighting game I want to main character and learn it, this kameos made the game complicated not in a good way. If they want to put depth, they can made resources like in sf6, or more unique characters like tekken. Kameo should have been a mod imo. I probably wont come back and since t8 looks so good I already forgot about mk1. Fully support you tho and respect what you are doing. Regarding your sales argument:
Recently in SF6 you got the news that SF6 has sold 3 million copies. Sure, MK1 might be approaching the 4 million mark, but if you look at the player numbers for the PC version on SteamDB (don't know where to check the console player numbers) then SF6 has consistently more players. Just 6700 vs 2500 at the time of my comment. And both are microtransaction infested. I think in the long run WB won't be able to ignore the negative voices in the community and will have to act. What I'm saying is that your criticism and that of your colleagues is not meaningless. Therefore, keep going. SF6 and Tekken 8 will be and are much more competitive (in the sales sense) than before.
And another thing. Big respect to you for boycotting all that microtransaction crap. I'm more of a SF player (also more casual, I can't get past gold) , even though I own all the Tekken's, SoulCalibur's, DoA's etc but the avatar shit, battle pass and Outfit 3 prices fuck me up. Why the fuck can't I just unlock that shit like in the PS2 days and why does the FGC swallow this treatment? Also do you think Tekken 8 will be as bad as the others in this regard?
Appreciate the comment! With regards to Tekken, and fighting games charging for extras... I generally don't mind them charging for cosmetics (not 10 dollars for skins, that's ridiculous) as long as the base game has more than enough content where I don't feel like I've been ripped off. So far, it looks like Namco gets this and they're not charging us for things through the ass, however, ya never know. As it stands, the base model of Tekken 8 is jam packed so I'm pretty happy and optimistic... But anything can happen going forward.
@@RealMikeHollow Thanks for the fast reply. Yeah the demo was pretty good and the base roster ist almost double the size of SF6. Haven't preordered it but I'm probably getting the standard edition. Just like with SF6. Not a fan of upfront payments for season passes I don't know the content of.

And I also agree that Tekken seems to have gotten the balance right so far.
@@burni988 yeah, for me it's all a out proportions and Tekken is giving us what looks like a full game so add ons become more tolerable. MK gave us what feels like 40% of a game (if I'm being generous) so anything they charge for is a piss take.
FATE will never admit when he's wrong. Be carreful because he will change his vibe when you're taking with him and afterward suddenly act all big and snide afterward. FATE has a history of being a toxic person and only talks in circles without a point and will turn against you if you don't agree with him 100%.
When I first came across him I found him interesting but then was turned off his snide attitude and school yard name calling. Then his videos became more and more rage bait like certain other MK RUclipsrs. He's more interested in tearing down, not uniting.
Had to do an edit. By uniting I mean he has a us vs them mind set. If you're not a follower of his ways you're a moron and part of the problem. I personally like MK1 but I can see the problems within it. It was a rushed game and it's sad to see it in this state. I want to see MK1 be better and I want to see the fans of MK voices heard so this won't happen again. Seeing the personal attacks because some enjoy the game in spite of the flaws is tiring. Or if you think the women look fine you're labeled something. At the end of the day no matter if MK1 is enjoyed or not, one thing is clear: MK1 was rushed and put out unfinished. By uniting I mean that. Remove the personal attacks and heated comments and make civil critical comments that will be listened to. If the community as a whole can agree on that and make it clear it's not acceptable hopefully it won't happen again. But as it stands with the community so divided and content creators like FATE encouraging the division ... nothing will happen.

Attacking Fate from a lack of understanding him is a narrow vision. Fate is angered from passion for mk. Fate like myself are older and been playing mk since the very first mk from the 90s. With that time period you see the decline. I had the same anger Fate had when mk11 came out. I realize once i turn my back in move forward to other games i love. NRS i view now as shit in the toilet. Once flushed there non existence. Fate want ppl to come together and pull support away from mk so they can feel the pressure and provide the mk we want. But with shills and others like pros and big mk platform manipulated the minds of the weak or young or horrible consumers. We cant get there. Lets be honest trueunderdog, uncage, brisk, and even KM they will know the game bad but cause of there position like nrs, the will sway the narrative. They all did it in mk11. BTW: I'm a casual, I spoke out against MK1 and I never bought a costume/cosmetic with real money in NO video game EVER. i actually disagree about the"our voice doesn't matter" part cuz as a casual, i can see that Mk1 isn't nearly as papular and beloved as mk11 and mkx! i ve hear so much negative stuff from my casual friends and none mk fans who bought the game for Mk's brand, saying that the game is barebone and EVEN talking about the microtransaction which it never happened with mk11 and mkx. especially mk11 was massive! even my friend who is casual mk fan and never plays offline has told me about the recent online issues and about how barebone the game is!

To me personally Fate has a point. And his point not just applies to MK1 but for most of the gaming these days in general. And it's not about hating on stuff because of just that, a hate, no. To me, all his hate pointed straight to the quality of entertainment, or in this case video games. And he is right about MK1, the situation around it and it's community. Because, we can clearly see with our own eyes that Mortal Kombat 1 lacks in quality. And while other fighting games on launch has everything what we need to play and have fun, MK1 does not. So yeah, I can fully understand his hate towards MK1 and it's community. And yes, I don't see myself as a part of this community because, I'm a part of MK community, which is different community. And the community that exists now it's a NRS community that is ready to eat any kind of crap, just to defend bad video games. So I come from the community that see that, if game is bad, they gonna tell you about it. Cause I don't want to buy a bad video game and MK1 is a bad video game. Especially on PC. And since I'm a PC player, seeing that NRS does not even bother on fixing it, I will never agree with what they are doing. But then again, it's not just Fate who hates on MK1, cause there is many people on YouTuge who criticize it for bad quality. And yet, somehow Fate is the only one who is to blame in the eyes of the people who defends this crap. Now, you can blame me for "defending" Fate, but the truth is, is that I'm not defending him. I simply see the truth. And I see where is his hate comes from towards MK1 and what's the reason for that. Other words, I share the same opinion on MK1 as Fate. Because I see what MK1 is. He literally opened my eyes, and when I started to checking on the things that he said about MK1, I found out that he is completely right. Sure, he makes some mistakes, and I even corrected him in the comments on some things, but in general he is completely right. That is my opinion on him, but his opinion also not only applies to MK1 but to whole gaming industry these days in general because of the quality of the games that we are getting.
I think after all this drama, Mortal Kombat 2 will not release ever. This is worse than SFV, which I thought was the worst release. This is a sad day.

There's always potential to completely destroy a franchise with this approach, but better it lay than continue on in this sorry state. I highly doubt it would get to the point where Mortal Kombat ceases to continue, so I think this approach is okay to take. It has too much mainstream appeal for companies to not want to finance a project.
I unfollowed fate yesterday because he just comes off as a hater to me. How he talks about Sonic Fox and others is just weak to me. I guarantee he wldnt say tht stuff to them in person.....
I pre-ordered MK1 and was so disappointed. MK9, 10 and 11 were so good I expected the evolution to continue.
Unfortunately it's a downgrade from MK11 in most aspects except gameplay.

MK1 is still lots of fun. I think the point many of it's critics are missing, although many of their criticisms are valid - I still prefer the gameplay of MK1 over SF6. I have Tekken 8 on pre-order and I hope it gets me away from buggy MK1, but if it doesn't? Then we have a real problem. I love MK!

I am going to be honest her. That's my take on Mortal Kombat 12. It's the same comment I used on FoxyGrampa channel. Her it goes : Bro or Sir. I knew the game MK12 was shit the day I have watched the gameplay reveal trailer. Seeing with my own eyes how much Scrub Zero was changed from the badass ninja we had in MKX to what looks like now ; a defenseless pretty gay Asian boy. That's just the beginning. The stages look like garbage crap, where is the living forest, the dead pool, the pit stage, the stage fatalities. The cool soundtracks, the get over her sound when Scorpion does his spear move and so fkn on. This is lame garbage. It did not take me more than 30 seconds to make my decision about the game and never changed my mind on how a joke this game is. It pretends to be a Mortal Kombat game and obviously it's ''totally fkn not''

NRS made the new MK1 as close as they can to replicate the original MK1. I know I sounds like a shill but I been looking at content creators and diff vids praising and denouncing the game and the more i look the harder I see the comparison of the two games I mentioned. 🙂 that explains the lack of content and I think most people aren’t used to it because that’s how much content the original game had. Well im off hopefully 🤞🏻 I had covered some good ground lol

FATE point is , fighting games , specially NRS games , are based on pre determined situations and conditions .
Fighting games should be to use variety , imagination , skill , smart , adapting .
These days , a copypaste raiden , can beat a better player who has way better understanding of fighting games .
You can win in Mk just by being annoying .
