Good to see how you broke the issue down Patrick. I actually did what you prescribed when I got emotionally attached to the situation. I went back and viewed reports and actually read the history predating 1947 and found out that this problem is not just as portrayed in the public space now. I also started asking questions like after the Oslo accord when the ground was set for a lasting reduction of hostilities, how Yitzak Rabin was killed. How there are many players in the game that want to keep this status quo. We should not assume evil or good by just one incident or a point in time.
The story of this war has been written over 5.000 years ago.
When you read the Old Testament in the Bible, it was about the people of god (the jews) in the holy land. That holy land is that area where you have israel today.
The Israelis fought wars against the nieghbours.
Those neigjbours were the Philistinians the assyrians, the Hittite and some more.
David vs Goliath was philistinains vs Jews.
In the bible it is mentioned on so many pages how they fought against each other. Then the egyptians conquered israel and emdlaved them. Then moses led them back to the holy land etc.

I've always liked Patrick's podcasts and anything you see on his channel, he's always had really interesting and fair discussions no matter what subjects or events he's talking about he's a very likeable guy and one of the very best podcast interviewers out there. You failed to mention that in 2006 israel declared war on Lebanon and invaded first. The rockets fired into israel was “self defense”
Actually what started the war was Israel kidnapped the entire Hamas civilian govt. Hezbullah retaliated on behalf of their allies by capturing two Israel soldiers Ostensibly to recover Lebanese prisoners.
Instead of just doing a prisoner swap Israel tried to defeat Hezbullah once and for all.
The all out war resulted in the destruction of lots of infrastructure but nothing was accomplished militarily other than Israel losing dozens of troops tanks and other equipment.
To add insult to injury Israel was forced to do the prisoner swap and release Hamas govt anyway.

A lot of folks don’t like Ron Paul, but I thought he had a great take on the situation that no one is talking about.
With regard to Hamas and some of these other groups we now label as terrorist groups were our own doing, but why do we always put the blame on someone else. Much of it I also feel was a result of our capitalistic approach to everything. As PBD is a major advocate for capitalism, thought he would speak on this more. I will choose capitalism over socialism/communism any day but I think it’s important to never go 100% into anything because even the best system has flaws and we should not be so blind to ignore the flaws.
